Livestock markets allowed from June 3 to 8 at APMCs
Mumbai: Under criticism for its advisory to the Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) against holding livestock markets between June 3 and June 8 across the state for Bakr Eid, the Maharashtra Gauseva Ayog, a commission for the welfare of cows and their progeny, revoked its May 7 advisory.
After animal husbandry officials informed the meeting headed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on June 2 that the ban on holding livestock markets between June 3 and 8 was revoked, the commission issued a fresh advisory on June 3, stating only the sale and purchase of cows and their progeny would be banned.
"We raised the issue with the CM, citing the law which does not give the commission any rights to issue such an advisory.
The animal husbandry department intervened. The commission has the rights to only recommend, not to pass any advisory or order. I am glad now livestock markets will be organised, and animals which are allowed for slaughter (buffaloes, goats, sheep, lambs) can be sold," said Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh.
Congress MLA Amin Patel, who also attended Monday's meeting chaired by the CM at Sahyadri Guesthouse, said it was a big relief to animal traders, farmers and the community at large. "Farmers and traders wait for the whole year to get a good price for livestock during Bakr Eid festival. Village markets run by APMCs are where most villagers sell and buy livestock during Bakr Eid, and the advisory had upset many," said Patel, who also suggested the modernisation of the BMC-run Deonar abattoir.
Imran Babu Qureshi of All India Jamiatul Quresh said, "Anyway, the slaughter of cows and their progeny is prohibited. Our demand was to lift the ban on holding markets for livestock permitted for slaughter."tnn

With the inauguration of the last phase of Samruddhi Highway, the entire 701 km-long road has been put into service. Now, the Nagpur-Mumbai journey can be completed in eight hours instead of 16 hours. The distance from Igatpuri to Kasara will be covered in just 8 minutes and there are a total of 5 tunnels in this 76 km phase. Among them, the longest tunnel on the Samruddhi Highway is 8 km long is in Nashik district that starts from Igatpuri. Before the inauguration, the Chief Minister and both the Deputy Chief Ministers travelled through the tunnel by car. The CM said: 'Maharashtra's path to prosperity – paved and delivered!' He further said: 'A vision completed, boosting connectivity and driving sustainable growth for Maharashtra. Of the 701 km, the first phase of 520 km of the Samruddhi Mahamarg was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 11, 2023, the second phase of 80 km between Shirdi and Bharvir by ex-CM Eknath Shinde on May 26, 2023, the third phase of 25 km between Bharvir and Igatpuri by the former public works minister (MSRDC) on March 4, 2024. The MSRDC has constructed this 701-km long access controlled expressway at a cost of Rs 55,335 crore. The six-lane expressway, which passes through 10 districts, 26 talukas and 392 villages of the state, has been completed in phases. With the commissioning of entire project, 12 districts are now connected with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. In a related development, the southern section of the Thane Creek Bridge-3 project of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) that goes from Pune to Mumbai was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister through video conferencing. This section will make the Pune-Mumbai travel easier.

From Cartons to Community Parks: Mumbai Launches Citywide Recycling Relay on World Environment Day
To mark World Environment Day, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Rotary Club of Bombay Mid City, and Tetra Pak India have joined forces to launch a citywide sustainability campaign-the Carton Recycling Relay-designed to turn used beverage cartons into durable benches for Mumbai's public parks. Benches made entirely from recycled cartons donated by Tetra Pak to Patwardhan Park, Bandra In its first phase, the initiative aims to collect 2.5 lakh used cartons from across the city, which will be recycled into 25 garden benches to be installed in selected public parks. This collaborative effort brings to life the principles of recycling, circular economy, and community participation, with citizens at the heart of the transformation. 'This is a brilliant example of how partnerships can bring sustainability into public spaces, and how the public can actively participate in this transformation,' said Jeetendra V. Pardeshi, Superintendent of the Gardens and Tree Office, BMC. 'We're not just recycling-we're creating something useful and lasting for the community. This initiative represents the kind of smart, sustainable thinking our city needs.' To kick off the campaign, a set of benches made entirely from recycled cartons were donated to Patwardhan Park, Bandra, a popular green space in Mumbai. The event was attended by Mr. Dinesh Pallewad, Assistant Commissioner, Ms. Swapna Mhatre, Ex Corporator, Mr. Dnyandev Mundhe, Dy. The program encourages Mumbaikars to drop off their used beverage cartons at over 60 Reliance Smart and Sahakari Bhandar outlets, and over 100 other drop-off points across Mumbai. How will the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway transform Maharashtra's real estate markets
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on June 5 inaugurated the final 76-km-long stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, making the entire 701-km Mumbai-Nagpur corridor fully functional. The completion of the corridor has cut travel time between the two cities from around 18 hours to just eight. Real estate experts say the expressway is likely to drive significant growth in property markets across several cities along the route. With the inauguration of the final stretch between Igatpuri in Nashik district to Amane in Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district, this six-lane expressway, officially called 'Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg', is likely to be open for traffic soon, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRDC) said. Besides Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra ministers Dada Bhuse, Shivendraraje Bhosale and Narhari Zirwal attended the inauguration ceremony at Igatpuri, about 140 km from Mumbai. According to infrastructure experts, the expressway will enhance connectivity between Mumbai, Aurangabad, and Nagpur, significantly cutting travel time and boosting the corridor's industrial, logistics, and tourism activity. 'This is expected to have a major positive economic bearing on the state, driving businesses across industrial and logistics, tourism, greenfield developments (newer cities/towns), alongside urbanisation and thus real estate," said Vimal Nadar, National Director and Head, Research, Colliers India. "This will also connect with the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, boosting domestic and international trade,' Nadar said. Gulam Zia, senior executive director of Knight Frank India, notes that the final leg of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway is expected to improve travel between Mumbai and Nagpur and boost tourism in temple towns like Shirdi. 'While this development is unlikely to significantly influence the residential real estate market, it is expected to benefit the hospitality and tourism sectors,' Zia said. The new segment bypasses the congested and hilly Kasara Ghat, reducing travel between Amane and Igatpuri from 90 to 40 minutes. Built at a cost of ₹1,182 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model, the six-lane (expandable to eight) access-controlled expressway is designed for safer and faster travel. The Maharashtra government has identified 24 development nodes for agri-processing, industrial estates, tourism, and skill hubs. Logistics and warehousing clusters are planned in key cities like Nashik, Aurangabad, and Bhiwandi to boost job creation and investment, particularly in underdeveloped districts such as Wardha, Washim, and Jalna, said experts. Nagpur, a major industrial city, is gaining attention due to its central location and connectivity via five expressways, including Samruddhi. It is home to major industrial zones like Butibori and Hingna, and the Multi-Modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN SEZ) is the flagship project of Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC), a report by Colliers said. Since the expressway's opening in 2022- 23, land prices near Samruddhi Circle have surged 3.7x (2015–2024), with projections of a 5.2x rise by 2035. The Colliers report noted that current land prices for plotted developments range from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 per sq ft. The report noted other upcoming developments in the area, including Metro Phase 2 (Khapri to Butibori MIDC and Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna), expected by 2026–27, and the Nagpur Airport Expansion, including a terminal for 4 million passengers by 2030–35.
