Jet2 holiday horror glass balcony accident left girl with permanent scars
A young girl who suffered horror wounds after crashing through a glass balcony door at a Canary Islands resort on a Jet2 holiday has received a five-figure payout.
Hudgell Solicitors pursued legal action against the popular airline and holiday firm on behalf of Mya Mullin's family.
Maya was just five years old when she sustained deep cuts and permanent scarring in the 2018 accident on Gran Canaria, the Mirror reports.
Solicitors argued that the door did not comply with Spanish safety regulations and accused Jet2 of neglecting its duty of care to the holidaymakers from the West Midlands.
While Jet2 did not accept responsibility, it opted for an out-of-court settlement, paying "five-figure" compensation to now 12-year-old Mya, according to the law firm.
The Mullins were enjoying a package holiday provided by Jet2 at the Hotel Lago Taurito when Mya mistakenly ran into the closed sliding glass door of their apartment terrace.
Her father, Neil Mullin, recounted the harrowing moment:"I heard the bang" and then saw Mya "still in the door with glass stuck in her, screaming."
He described the ordeal: "Seeing my child stuck there with the glass embedded and then holding her stomach wound together for about 30 minutes until the ambulance arrived, it really affected all of us.
"It was just neglect. You book a holiday for your family and you expect a room that is safe for you and your children, but it didn't look like any recent safety checks had been done. I think Jet2 failed their customers."

Mr Mullin stated that taking legal action against Jet2 "wasn't about the money", but rather an effort to hold the company accountable for providing accommodation that was "a death trap".
Mya had to be rushed to a hospital in Las Palmas for surgery on her stomach and leg injuries.
Anne Thomson, a specialist in travel accidents at Hudgell Solicitors, said: "Package holiday tour operators have a duty of care to their customers no matter where in the world you travel.
"They are responsible for ensuring your safety at your accommodation and that the facilities and services provided meet a satisfactory standard so they are safe. In this case we argued that they had failed."
A representative for Jet2 said: "We can confirm that we have reached a settlement in relation to an incident which occurred in 2018. The health and safety of our customers is extremely important to us and we would like to reiterate how sorry we are about this incident."

But despite her being tried by a grand jury, and convicted by a jury of her peers, Trump this morning demanded her release. "FREE TINA PETERS, a brave and innocent Patriot who has been tortured by Crooked Colorado politicians, including the big Mail-In Ballot supporting the governor of the State," Trump wrote, none of which is true. He went on, again falsely: "Let Tina Peters out of jail, RIGHT NOW. She did nothing wrong, except catching the Democrats cheat in the Election." He added: "If she is not released, I am going to take harsh measures!!!" Trump can't pardon her, because she was convicted of state crimes, not federal crimes. "Tina Peters has been sentenced to nine years of incarceration for her dangerous attempts to break into her own election equipment to prove Trump's 'Big Lie'," Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement following her conviction. 'The man I loved collapsed in my arms' Heartbroken partner sobs during Tony Ferns murder trial
Angela said she got "a fright". She could not "comprehend" what had happened. She remembered shouting and Tony replying: "Angie, I have been stabbed." The partner of a man told how he "collapsed in her arms" the night he was allegedly murdered. Angela McCann became emotional as she recalled Tony Ferns shouting he had been "stabbed" moments after he had dropped her off at home. The 36 year-old was today giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow. Raymond Platt, 56, Craig Colquhoun, 39, Robert Park, 69, Joseph McCulloch, 50, are on trial accused of killing the tiler in Crebar Street, Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire on April 18 2019. They deny the murder charge. Angela told how they had been a couple of three years before he passed away. Tony lived with his mum Phyllis, 67, in Thornliebank, but would sometimes stay with his partner at her home nearby. Angela had been working at a local One-O-One shop on the night of the alleged attack, but at a different branch from usual. The couple's "routine" would be for Tony to pick her up in his Audi at the end of a shift. CCTV played in court showed Angela being collected that evening. The witness told how Tony then dropped her at home after parking in his usual spot outside. The mum then left the car to get her sister, who had been babysitting her children at Angela's house. Tony was due to drive the sibling home. Angela then spotted a male at her partner's motor. She was not concerned as "Tony knew everybody" and believed it was likely a friend. But, then she heard the car suddenly "screech" and the vehicle head towards Phyllis's home nearby where it stopped. Angela said she got "a fright". She could not "comprehend" what had happened. She remembered shouting and Tony replying: "Angie, I have been stabbed." Angela immediately ran up to a stricken Tony, who, by this time, was at his mum's door. A sobbing Angela told jurors: "He collapsed in my arms. I just held him in my arms." An urgent 999 call was made. Angela said she later phoned again as mercy crews "were taking so long". Prosecutor Alex Prentice KC asked her: "Did Tony remain responsive?" She replied: "You could see that the life was draining from him." Tony never recovered. An e-fit photo was generated and this was shown to jurors today. But, Angela said her "focus" had more been on Tony than this other individual. Park's KC Tony Graham later questioned the witness. He said: "I am about to put something to you - I am not suggesting there is any truth - but if someone had believed that you had set Tony up that night, would that be ridiculous?" Angela: "Yes." The court heard previously how Tony apparently held a "grudge" towards Park. He was said to have believed Park - known as Rab - was in some way responsible for a car accident which left his disabled brother Mark badly hurt. Angela was today asked about "incidents" she was aware of involving the pair. This included one where Tony had told her that he had punched Park although she did not know the date. She also said her partner had been "paranoid" about a car that he had been seen in his street driving "very slow". McCulloch was allegedly in it with the vehicle described by Tony as being "full". The murder charge states Tony was repeatedly stabbed on the body with a knife or similar item. The trial, before judge Lord Fairley, continues.

Terrifying clip of child riding bike on busy Scots road sparks fear online
The incident happened outside a busy shopping centre as cars passed on the opposite side of the road during rush hour. Alarming footage captured the moment a child was seen driving down a busy road in Livingston on an electric scooter. The incident was reported to police at Almondvale Road in the town on Wednesday August 20, at around 4.55pm. In the clip the child can be seen wearing a helmet and white top at the time - while rush hour traffic was in full swing. The youngster manages to exit a roundabout beside The Centre - a busy shopping centre in the town - and weave across two lanes on the road. Two vehicles follow slowly behind the scooter with a bus up ahead, as cars pass on the opposite side of the dual carriageway. Police were eventually alerted to the incident and brought the bike to a stop. It is believed the parents were out looking for them before joining police at the scene, before advice as provided by officers. Shocked locals hit out online after the video was shared. Jordan Sneddon, who uploaded the footage suggesting it was a girl involved, said the child had 'no business' being on the road. He said: "It was a wee girl, no older than four, I'd say. She had absolutely no business on a road like that." Laura-Ann Robertson said: 'Oh my god! Where the hell are the parents? My heart is in my mouth watching this. Did someone stop and take the child off the road? Stacey Macdonald commented: "It's a 30mph road. I've just left there and it's mayhem at this time with rush hour traffic. Regardless it's not a place a kid should be, it could've ended in a serious disaster." Caroline Symington said: "If the wee girl was hit by a car the driver would be blamed. Where are the parents/guardians of this child?" Nicholson T Anne added: "She's home and safe with her parents, myself and another lady pulled over and stayed with her until the police and her parents came. The parents had been out looking for her." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 4.55pm on Wednesday, 20 August, 2025, officers received a report of a child riding an electric scooter in the Almondvale Road area of Livingston. Riding an e-scooter in public could result in fines, penalty points on a driving license, and the seizure of the scooter.
