Qatar holds ‘Narratives for Peace' meeting with Canada and Mexico

Qatar held a consultative meeting with Canada and Mexico, co-chairs of the Working Group on 'Narratives for Peace', which was established as part of the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The meeting took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani represented Qatar at the meeting.
Discussions focused on the importance of promoting peace-supportive narratives to foster a positive environment conducive to advancing peace efforts and to strengthening prospects for a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution.

Ambassador Melicor said that on the multilateral front, the Philippines continues to play its role as a responsible, trusted, and reliable actor in an increasingly complex and globalising world, one where a rules-based international order is held paramount. 'As a maritime and archipelagic country, the Philippines believes that maritime governance, based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS, is an area of common action. As such, we continue to assert the rule of law and strengthen partnerships to ensure that Philippine sovereignty is preserved in its waters, and that peace at sea and freedom of navigation are guaranteed,' he said. He added, 'With respect to the crisis in the Middle East region, we remain committed to supporting multilateral efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the war in Gaza. The Philippines calls for the full, safe, rapid, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilian population throughout the Gaza Strip. 'We believe that the provision of humanitarian assistance must remain under the leadership of the United Nations and other internationally mandated actors, based on impartial needs assessments and guided by the principles of neutrality and humanity. Along this line, I am pleased to inform you that last year, in firm solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Philippines doubled its voluntary annual financial contribution to UNRWA to support the agency's critical life-saving work.' Sheikha Alya, UN officials discuss Qatar-UN cooperation
QNA New York Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani met with Annalena Baerbock, president-elect of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Qatar in New York. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed joint priorities for Qatar and the United Nations within the framework of the upcoming General Assembly session. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in addressing pressing global challenges. Sheikha Alya reaffirmed Qatar's continued commitment to actively supporting UN initiatives, with the aim of contributing to the success of the 80th session of the General Assembly. For her part, Baerbock expressed appreciation for Qatar's prominent role in supporting United Nations efforts, particularly in promoting international peace and security and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Sheikha Alya also met with Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting reviewed Qatar's ongoing preparations to host the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to be held from November 4 to 6.
