Man arrested for Umlazi mass shooting that left eight dead
A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a mass murder in Umlazi's Zama informal settlement last month, where eight people died.
The man was arrested over the weekend.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu confirmed the arrest, and said the suspect would appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The mass shooting took place on 16 May.
Police said they responded to reports of multiple murders, and upon arrival at the scene, eight people - six men and two women - whose ages range between 22 and 40 years old, were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the police, the victims were inside the dwelling when an unknown number of suspects entered and opened fire, killing the victims at the scene.
Police said they are investigating possible motives for the killings and have launched a manhunt for additional suspects.
They have also appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation to contact the nearest police station or call the crime stop number, 086 001 0111.
