7,000 Fans Unite For 'Keluang Man'-Themed Run Event In KL In Anticipation Of Upcoming Film
Malaysia's most anticipated superhero action movie, 'Keluang Man', is set to take over cinemas nationwide starting 29th May 2025! Produced by Astro Shaw, 'Keluang Man' marks the inception of the Astro Shaw Cinematic Universe. As part of the larger promotional campaign leading up to the highly anticipated superhero film, Astro Shaw teamed up with key partners to roll out a series of exciting collaborations.
These collabs included the Wonda Kopi Kluang limited-edition collection with Wonda Coffee, the Wonda-ful 'Keluang Man' Burger in partnership with myBurgerLab, the exclusive 'Keluang Man' Premium Collection by Royal Selangor, and of course, the highlight—the 'Keluang Man' WONDA Fun Run. To build anticipation for the highly awaited live-action release of 'Keluang Man', Astro Shaw has launched an exhilarating, immersive experience with the 'Keluang Man WONDA Fun Run'—Malaysia's first-ever original superhero-themed run. This milestone event marked a groundbreaking collaboration between Keluang Man, Wonda Coffee, and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), held in conjunction with the city's Car Free Morning programme. The run, making its debut on 18th May in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, drew more than 7,000 enthusiastic participants of all ages for a vibrant 5km course that began at Menara DBKL.
The morning of event kicked off at 6:45 am with a dynamic warm-up session, followed by the official flag-off at 7:00 am, led by none other than Keluang Man himself, mascot BeBe, and a DBKL representative. Adding a fun twist, runners donned Keluang Man masks, while select lucky participants received limited-edition jerseys that added a collectable thrill to the experience.
Elevating the atmosphere, fans were treated to star appearances by the film's cast, including Nas Muammar Zar, Datuk Rosyam Nor, Shweta Sekhon, Anwaar Beg Moghal, Sham Sunder, and Razzuan Rosli. The energy soared further with live performances from Krisya, the vocalist of the film's official theme song, and local rock powerhouse S.O.G.
The 'Keluang Man WONDA Fun Run' successfully united fans, fitness enthusiasts, and film lovers in a celebration of homegrown superhero pride, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic cinematic launch. Malaysia's iconic superhero Keluang Man finally soars to the silver screen

Photo: Keluang Man/Instagram After decades of nostalgia and years of anticipation, Keluang Man, Malaysia's original animated superhero, has finally made his live-action debut in cinemas nationwide. Released on May 29, the big-screen adaptation breathes new life into a local legend, blending action, humour and heartfelt storytelling in true Malaysian style. Directed by Anwari Ashraf, the man behind Polis Evo and Project: High Council , Keluang Man is not just another superhero flick. It's a tribute to Malaysian pop culture, a reinvention of an iconic character from the 1990s, and the start of the Astro Shaw Cinematic Universe (ASCU). This film tells the story of Borhan, played by Nas Muammar Zar, better known as Nas-T, a psychiatric patient in Kluang who lives a double life as the mysterious vigilante Keluang Man. Haunted by a voice in his head which is voiced by radio icon Halim Othman, Borhan finds himself pulled between delusions, memories and justice, especially when confronted with his estranged brother Shamsir, played by Datuk Remy Ishak. The story unfolds with a quirky cast of characters including Shweta Sekhon as Dr Malini, Borhan's psychiatrist, and Anwaar Beg Moghal as Inspector Sahab, her relentless brother who is hot on Keluang Man's trail. Datuk Rosyam Nor rounds out the cast as Ahmad, Borhan's aged but wise mentor. Speaking at the movie's gala premiere, lead actor Nas-T admitted that stepping into Borhan's complex world was both a challenge and a triumph. 'It's all thanks to director Anwari Ashraf, who wrote and directed it, and I entrusted everything to him. 'He moulded my character, and I followed his direction faithfully,' he said. In a particularly emotional twist, beloved radio host Halim returns not in body, but in voice. Lending his 1990s-era persona to a voice inside Borhan's head, Halim shared how surreal the experience was. 'Anwari told me about a superhero film with a character inspired by me, tied to the golden days of Roda Impian . 'I was touched by the director's imagination in wanting to capture Malaysia's memories from around 1998 to 2000,' Halim said. For Halim in particular, Keluang Man is considered a generational bridge that would bring people together. 'This isn't just a superhero film, it's a creative journey connecting nostalgia with a new generation,' he said. Shot in Kuala Lumpur, Kluang, Klang and Ipoh, Keluang Man took over two years to produce, with a reported budget of RM13 million. It represents the first full-fledged live-action adaptation of a local animated icon, originally created by the late Kamn Ismail. Director Anwari described the film as a love letter to fans and a vision of more local heroes to come. 'I hope audiences will embrace this film and help reignite the spirit of the superhero Keluang Man, so that his legacy can be passed down from one generation to the next,' he said. – Sinar Daily

Batik mural brings colour, culture to KL

His signature style, marked by vibrant splashes of colour and cultural motifs, has been featured in artistic projects across the country. However, his latest endeavour, a mural at 'Zon Jejak Pahlawan' in Jalan Parlimen in Kuala Lumpur, called for a deeper approach. Titled 'Mural Batik Madani', the artwork carries a message of inclusivity and shared identity, celebrating the common threads that unite all Malaysians. 'I want it to be a reflection of our common hopes and goals,' Arif told StarMetro at the event to unveil the installation. He hopes his design and personal outlook resonate with how many Malaysians feel; united by shared experiences and values. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa launched the event, along with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Arif Rafhan says mural is meant to showcase the spirit of inclusivity. In her speech, Maimunah highlighted the role of public art in both beautifying the city and strengthening community ties. 'At Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), we believe the arts can foster a sense of pride and belonging among residents,' she said. 'This mural is more than just a visual landmark – it represents the rich cultural identity that defines Kuala Lumpur.' Spanning 183m in length and six metres in height, the mural is part of a joint corporate social responsibility initiative between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Berjaya Group Bhd. DBKL said in a media statement that work on the mural began on Feb 11 and was completed by March 24, nearly a month ahead of schedule. 'This mural is aimed at conveying a message of inclusivity and unity among Malaysia's diverse communities. 'It is also to highlight our heritage, including that of Sabah and Sarawak, using batik as an education and artistic medium,' said DBKL. Also present were Berjaya founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Federal Territories deputy director-general (Planning and Development) Datuk Ramlee Yatim.
