BBC announces gripping new family crime drama Mint
We're always on the lookout for new TV crime dramas to enjoy – so we're really excited for new BBC family crime drama, Mint.
The BBC has announced the new show, which will be filmed in Glasgow. It is described as "a darkly comic and unconventional drama about a crime family's inner life". The show will follow a family of gangsters, and explore their pursuit of love, in a world that's terrified of their power.
At the centre of the drama is Shannon (Emma Laird), the naive daughter of the Glasgow crime family who is desperate to find love, while living in the shadow of her gang leader father (Sam Riley) and fiercely loyal mother (Laura Fraser). Family life (and business) is about to be further disrupted, as newbie Arran (Ben Coyle-Larner) arrives on the scene.
The eight-episode series will see Shannon try to navigate life outside the law, while also finding herself.
Charlotte Regan, Mint's writer and director, said about the show: 'I had a little cry the other day thinking about how incredible this cast are. Absolute emotional wreck.
"But I honestly can't imagine these characters being brought into the world by better human beings. Every single one of them is going to smash it and I feel so grateful to have them all onboard."
We don't yet have a release date for Mint, but we know that the show is filming now. If you're looking for a new show in the meantime, check out our pick of the best TV crime dramas to watch now.

Beachgoer Finds Woman's Ashes in a Bottle, Then Her Sweet Message to the Woman's Daughter Goes Viral
A woman placed her mom's ashes in a bottle, so she could finally travel the world 'This is my mum. Throw her back in,' Cara Melia wrote on the note she placed in the bottle. 'She's travelling the world." Another woman found the bottle within 12 hours — and her message to Melia went viralA grieving daughter placed her mom's ashes in a bottle so she could finally see the world. Not long after, a stranger found the bottle — and her message to the woman's daughter went viral. In February, Cara Melia's mom, 51-year-old Wendy Chadwick, died of a heart condition, the BBC and the Manchester Evening News reported. The mom of five never got a chance to travel the globe, which her family decided to rectify after her death. 'For a long time she looked after her late brother and her mum as their carer,' Melia, 24, told the paper. Chadwick also loved the beach, so Melia originally considered scattering her ashes on the beach during a recent trip to Skegness, a town in England along the coast of the North Sea. 'But my best friend thought of the bottle idea and put her out to sea,' Melia continued, according to the Manchester Evening News. 'I wrote the note because I wanted her to finally get to travel because she didn't get to before she passed.' 'This is my mum. Throw her back in,' the note read. 'She's travelling the world. Thanks, Cara, Oldham, UK.' Melia said a final goodbye to her mom, but just 12 hours later, the bottle was found by somebody visiting a beach in Skegness, the BBC reported. A Facebook post about the discovery soon went viral. 'Can everyone please share this far and wide in hope it finds Cara from Oldham!!' wrote Kelly Sheridan on Tuesday, June 3, captioning a picture of the bottle, note and a video of a boy tossing the bottle back into the water. 'We found this lovely lady earlier today at Butlins, Skegness beach,' she continued. 'She's been thrown back in the sea as requested.. happy travels Cara's Mum.' While Melia was grateful her mom's ashes had been returned to the North Sea ('Thank you for throwing her back in,' she responded on Facebook), she hoped the initial journey would be longer. "Nobody was meant to find her for a bit,' she told the BBC. 'She was meant to be in a completely different country.' But Melia thinks her mom would be tickled by the discovery. Chadwick was a "very quirky kind of person,' said Melia, who told the outlet her mom would be giggling over the news. Now that her mom has been returned to the sea, she hopes the next trip will be longer. "I am hoping she goes further this time and finally gets a chance to travel the world,' Melia told the Manchester Evening News. 'It seems to have touched so many people.' Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up rumours so far from Strictly couple to Roman Kemp
Don't be too disappointed that Race Across the World is coming to an end next week as Celebrity Race Across the World is coming back later this year. Rumours have been swirling about who the four teams taking on the BBC show challenge are. So far the rumoured teams are: Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West as well as siblings Roman Kemp and his sister Harley, plus Dylan Llewellyn. It's not yet known who the other two pairings could be. There are always four pairs on the celebrity edition as there is no elimination round. Last year's competitors included: winners Scott Mills and his husband Sam, Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy as well as Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary-Ellen. GMB weatherman Alex Beresford and his dad Noel won the first version of the celebrity show that aired in 2023. They were competing against siblings Billy Monger and his sister Bonny, Mel Blatt and her mum, as well as Harry Judd and his mum. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn is being tipped for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to The Sun. The Beyond Paradise star, who plays sweet Kelby on the BBC show, would be swapping acting and learning lines for an adventure. It would take him to different corners of the world. Although his name has been leaked, it is not known who could be his possible partner for the trip of a lifetime. We can't wait to find out more! Couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West are believed to be starring in the Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up. They first fell in love when they first set eyes on each other on the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom. They were competing celebrities on the 2022 series. Their relationship will be tested to the limits on Race Across the World where they will have to budget and plan the best route together. They have already taken their relationship to the next level as they moved in with each other last year. Last year, Rainford told MailOnline of their relationship: "We are good and going strong and are actually moving in together. We're just going through, you know dining tables and sofas and all that kind of stuff, it's exciting." West added: "Yeah, adult life is real! Molly's turned into a whole interior designer. So I'm just taking a complete back seat. She's just like, "What do you think about this?" You've got Pintrest boards going so it's great." Roman Kemp and his older sister Harleymoon are also believed to be lined up for Celebrity Race Across the World. The siblings grew up in the limelight together, with famous parents Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp and Wham! band member, Shirlie Holliman. As teenagers they would often be on the glamorous red carpets for the stars with their mum and dad. They both followed their parents footsteps into the spotlight. Harleymoon became a singer releasing her first song Space in 2020 while Kemp made waves on the radio. Despite appearances, Kemp detailed his struggles of feeling like he didn't fit in with his family. "I really upset my mum recently, because I said that sometimes I feel like I don't fit in with our family," he told The Guardian in January 2025. "I go back home and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum's taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I'm not… embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me." In April last year, Kemp quit his Capital breakfast radio show after eight year but he has continued with building his profile in the showbiz world. Who else could be starring on Celebrity Race Across the World? Only time will tell. Yahoo UK has reached out to Celebrity Race Across the World representatives for further comment. Royal Family Reportedly Had ‘Brief' Heads-Up About Prince Harry's Bombshell Interview
The royal family was given a 'very brief' heads-up before Prince Harry's bombshell BBC News interview earlier this month. 'There was a very brief awareness-raising at the palace shortly before it [was] broadcast,' Hello! Magazine's royal editor Emily Nash claimed on the 'A Right Royal Podcast' on Friday, May 9. 'What I understand is that there were, potentially, discussions that might have happened as a result of the case now having been concluded.' Nash claimed that King Charles III 'didn't feel he could have these conversations' regarding the security trial with Harry, 40, because it would 'put him in a really difficult, and potentially unconstitutional, situation.' Harry made headlines earlier this month when he publicly asked for reconciliation with his family after losing his appeal for government-funded security in the U.K. The duke has been fighting to restore his security presence since leaving the royal family in 2020 alongside wife Meghan Markle. Before his public plea, Harry alluded to his father's involvement in the ongoing legal battle. 'He couldn't be seen to intervene on his son's behalf or get involved in government matters,' Nash added. 'His son is suing His Majesty's government, you know he needed to stay right out of this situation.' Why King Charles May Never Reconcile With Prince Harry Amid Painful Feud: 'So Complicated,' Source Says Nash previously believed there was 'potentially' an olive branch that could have been extended — but that all changed once Harry did the interview. Not only did Harry claim that Charles, 76, 'won't speak to me' in his BBC interview, which aired May 2, but he also commented on his father's mortality. (Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024.) 'I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore,' Harry said. 'Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has.' Royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly exclusively that Harry's comment about Charles' health likely didn't land with the royal family, noting that the Duke of Sussex 'has an odd way' of showing that he wants a reconciliation. 'He slams his father for interfering in the trial, then says the Palace rigged the outcome, then accuses the Royal Family of not caring about the safety of his wife and children, and winds up declaring that for now he can't foresee any scenario in which he would take his family to the U.K.,' Andersen, who has written several books about the royal family, continued. 'Harry delivered the coup de grace when he said he wanted to bury the hatchet with his father because he doesn't know how much time the King has left to live.'
