Kepong MP decries Home inister denying double standard in the handcuffing of 2 Sin Chew editors

DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng has openly expressed his utmost disappointment after the Madani government informed him that the remanding and handcuffing of two Sin Chew Daily editors by cops over the Jalur Gemilang blunder in April was in accordance with the law.
'My disappointment at this evasive response cannot be expressed in words,' he reacted to the parliamentary reply by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Thursday (Aug 7) to his alleged double standards in the investigations process.
'Isn't this tantamount to being brave against the weak but afraid of the strong'? Has the principle of justice and human rights – that all human beings are equal before the law – simply disappears when the issue at hand involved race?'
This came about as the perpetrators in two other 'flag blunder' cases that coincidentally occurred within a month period – that involving a PAS politician and the Education Ministry (MOE) – were not treated in similar manner.
In stating that both Sin Chew Daily editors were probed under Section 3(1)(c) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963; Section 4(1)(b) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984; and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Saifuddin had noted:
'The police carry out their duties professionally, independently without any political interference, at all times.'
Recall that cops went ahead to detain both editors despite industry veteran in the likes of Datuk A. Kadir Jasin having urged to accept in good faith Sin Chew Daily's prompt apology on grounds that the mainstream Chinese media complied with journalistic ethics – and that the blunder was nothing more than an honest mistake.
As if misfortunes have to come in pairs (Polish proverb), the MOE found itself having to apologise for a blunder in the design of the Jalur Gemilang printed in its Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results analysis report barely a week later.
In May, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan acknowledged the incident involving the logo for the Himpunan Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (TMT 1.0) 2025 which depicted an incomplete national flag with incorrect star points and stripes. – Aug 9, 2025

DAPSY: Resolve flag blunder issue via law, not UMNO Youth's 'selective mob justice' manner

Editor's Note: This is the reaction by DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) in response to UMNO Youth chief Datuk Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the latest flag blunder incident in Taman Bertam Perdana in Kepala Batas, Penang. Following the latest incident of yet another Jalur Gemilang being flown upside down after an earlier one involving SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson, the outspoken defender of race and religion has rallied his movement to 'march down' to mainland Penang to school the 'two Ah Peks (elderly uncles) on how to fly the Malaysian flag'. THE national level DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) strongly condemn the statement of UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who urged the public to 'visit' a business premise located in Kepala Batas, Penang 'to right' the issue of the Jalur Gemilang being hung upside down. This action not only gives the impression that Dr Akmal wants to act like an authority but such an approach itself does not uphold the rule of law. National DAPSY therefore slams the hypocritical and double-standard attitude shown by Dr Akmal on the Jalur Gemilang issue. Has the Melaka state EXCO ever mobilised the public to 'visit' the Education Ministry (MOE) and the Terengganu PAS headquarters which have also committed mistakes of a similar nature? The answer is negative which clearly shows how hypocritical the current UMNO Youth chief is. Malaysia is a constitutional country based on the rule of law. Any action that violates the law or regulations – including blunders in the flying of the Jalur Gemilang – should be dealt with according to existing procedures and regulations, not through actions that involve intimidation or 'mob justice'. 'Political gimmick' Patriotic awareness cannot be fostered through threats but through consistent education. DAPSY insists that action should be taken against lawbreakers in a manner consistent with the law. However, the act of magnifying the issue and mobilising the public to 'teach the perpetrators a lesson' is just a political gimmick that does not benefit national unity. A representative of the people should play a role in uniting the people, not causing tension. DAPSY believes that errors in flying the national flag constitutes an action that must be punished according to the law. However, what is dangerous to the society today is the attitude of some politicians like Dr Akmal who chooses to politicise such issues for personal gain. Our country does not need 'moral police'; instead, Malaysia needs leaders who prioritise peace, harmony and the integrity of the law. On this note, National DAPSY calls on all parties, especially Dr Akmal who has repeatedly divided the multi-racial community, to stop the culture of confrontational politics which only creates hatred and division. Our country will be more developed if we use the methods of dialogue, continuous education and willingness to obey the law. – Aug 10, 2025 Perak state assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar, Woo Kah Leong, is also the National DAP Socialist Youth (DASY) chief. Warisan No. 2 Darell Leiking continues to keep 'em guessing on defending Moyag seat, says to wait till nomination day

PENAMPANG, Aug 9 — Moyog assemblyman Datuk Darell Leiking has declined to confirm whether he will defend his seat in the upcoming state election, insisting that the focus should be on the party rather than individuals. The Parti Warisan deputy president said the priority as the state gears up for the 17th state election is for Warisan to contest all 73 state constituencies. 'Warisan will be contesting no matter what,' he said when met by reporters at the Warisan president's meeting with the Chinese community from the Kapayan constituency here on Saturday. When pressed on his own candidacy, Darell replied: 'It is not about the individual. It is about the party now. So, we do not need to talk about it.' Told that his answer was leaving the public guessing, he quipped that his political opponents would be left guessing too. 'It's a guessing game,' he said, adding that any confirmation would only come on nomination day. 'The confirmation is that Warisan will be fielding 73 candidates. Wait until nomination day … they will know,' he added. — The Borneo Post
