Qatar Foundation launches Islamic Civilisation curriculum in its schools starting with new academic year

DOHA: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has announced the inclusion of the 'Islamic Civilisation' curriculum in its educational curriculum starting from the 2025-2026 academic year. This comes as part of its efforts to strengthen students' connection to their cultural roots and consolidate their understanding of their national and cultural identity.
The Foundation explained in a statement that the new curriculum is an innovative educational course aimed at students in grades six through nine in schools affiliated with Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education. It explores the most important milestones of Islamic civilisation across four pivotal eras, through interactive educational tracks that connect values, knowledge, and identity, working to instill a sense of belonging and enhance historical awareness.
In this context, Sarah Al Hajri, Director of Student Affairs and Community Partnerships at Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation, said: 'This course addresses the existing gap in international school curricula, where students study Qatari history without a comprehensive understanding of the history of Islamic civilization in its comprehensive sense.'
She added that the curriculum enables students to learn about the contributions of Islamic civilisation to the human journey, linking the past to the present, and the general to the specific, thus shaping a balanced awareness that enhances self-esteem and guides a sense of belonging. She explained that the curriculum is distinguished by its focus on analysing the impact of Islamic civilisation on various aspects of life and the contributions it has made to humanity, departing from the traditional narrative of historical events.
She pointed out that the curriculum's implementation relies on inquiry-based research units, whereby students receive basic information, explore its developments and applications, and connect it to contemporary reality. She emphasized that this represents an investment in students' awareness and a stimulating educational experience that unleashes their energies for the future.
For his part, Dr Ali Al Sallabi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and one of the participants in the curriculum review, emphasized that the inclusion of Islamic Civilisationin school curricula represents a crucial step in light of the intellectual and cultural challenges facing the new generation.
An Islamic writer and preacher specializing in Islamic history, thought, and Quranic interpretation, he explained that the past decades have witnessed the dominance of cultural movements in the Arab and Islamic world, influencing its intellectual and civilisational dimensions. He noted that the influence of these movements persists despite their declining military and political presence.
He said that Islamic civilisation is characterized by material, moral, spiritual, and moral dimensions that the new generation needs more than ever before. Teaching this civilisation contributes to saving generations from confusion and providing them with a compass that guides them and a light that directs them to the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Prophet.
He pointed out that the curriculum review focused on including prominent cultural landmarks, inspiring stories, Quranic verses and Prophetic hadiths, as well as highlighting influential figures in the nation's history, and arranging the content to reflect the manifestations of Islamic civilisation.
Dr Al Sallabi concluded by saying: "The new curriculum enhances students' understanding of the achievements of Islamic civilisation and its role in the contemporary world. It also empowers teachers to play a key role in broadening students' horizons and encouraging dialogue and discussion in a manner that combines logic and emotion, deepening their pride in their religion and history and motivating them to learn more about their ancient civilisation."

Tribune News Network Doha The value and the benefit of serving society has been illustrated to more than 800 new university students who are now part of Qatar Foundation's unique ecosystem of education – as an annual gathering marking the start of the new academic year encouraged them to embrace the spirit of giving back. The traditional Marhaba event – held at Multaqa (Education City Student Center) – saw students who are embarking on studies in the eight universities at Qatar Foundation (QF) learn about the opportunities that await them over the coming years, and what it means to be a QF student. Speaking to the students, Yousif Al Naama, CEO of Qatar Foundation, said: 'You're taking your first steps on an incredible journey, in a place of learning, discovery, and connection that is unlike anything else anywhere in the world. 'And you're taking those steps in the year that marks the 30th anniversary of QF – three decades of nurturing future leaders and change-makers like you, equipping them to excel in their fields and nurturing them to lead fulfilling lives.' Emphasising the sense of belonging and shared identity that comes from entering the QF ecosystem, he said: 'Wherever you are from, whatever university you are studying at, wherever you hope your path will lead, you are united by the fact you are students of QF. 'You are part of our community, and you are part of our story – a story that we've been writing for 30 years, and that you will now help us write the next chapters of.' Francisco Marmolejo, president of Higher Education and Education Advisor, QF, told the new students: 'Among QF's values are 'integrity' and 'community'. In everything we do, we contribute to the progress of society – in Qatar, across our region, and around the world. And that includes the educational experience that we offer. 'We encourage, enable, and provide opportunities for every one of you to be of service to society - either by volunteerism, advocacy, supporting, and even creating community-focus initiatives, or through any pathway that allows you to give something to others. 'Nothing makes us prouder than when we see the growth not only of future professionals, but of young people who embody good citizenship, and who recognise that being of service to society is also an investment in your own future. Seek to find your own path of service – because it will bring you growth, fulfilment, a sense of greater purpose, and an experience every bit as unforgettable and valuable as the academic journey you are embarking on.' The day-long event also included student showcases, where representatives from QF universities spoke about community service and student engagement, along with a fair that introduced new students to the opportunities available across Education City. Keynote speaker Amjad Alnour – a filmmaker, journalist, and TV presenter – spoke about his own college experience, encouraging students to recognise the value of helping others. And he told them: 'Why don't you try advocacy? Find yourself a cause that's worth fighting for, give it your all, and see how that makes you feel. 'Not only will it help you shift the focus from your own personal problems by being of service to others, but it will also give you a sense of fulfilment and self-worth – a sense that you matter to those people that seek help. With the explosion of AI, social media, and technology, you have the tools to be loud and to speak up.' QF's higher education ecosystem includes Hamad Bin Khalifa University and seven partner universities: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar; Georgetown University in Qatar; HEC Paris, Doha; Northwestern University in Qatar; Texas A&M University at Qatar; Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar; and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar.

QNA Doha Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has announced that it will roll out the new 'Islamic Civilization' curriculum across all its schools in the 2025-2026 academic year. The move is part of its efforts to strengthen students' identity and sense of belonging as well as their connection to their cultural roots. In a statement, theQF said that the curriculum is designated for grades six to nine across all its Pre-University Education (PUE) schools. The innovative programme explores key milestones of Islamic Civilization across four pivotal eras, deepening students' understanding of their historical roots and cultural heritage through interactive, values-based learning, it added. Commenting on the launch, Director of Student Affairs and Community Engagement within QF's PUE Sara Al Hajri, said, 'This course aims to address a gap in international school curricula. While students study the history of Qatar, we recognize the importance of providing our students with a deep understanding of their nation's history, but we also believe it is essential to introduce them to the wider history of Islamic civilization and its profound impact on humanity.'
