As always, humans excel in doing the unimaginable. Till now, the only places a fish tank was placed in were homes and offices, spaces with an area for the fish to move around and for the people to interact with.
However, a driver in China recently created a fish tank in a unique and never-before-seen place, the bonnet of his car.
The driver from the Liaoning province of Northern China put a transparent coating over the bonnet and filled the gap with water and fish. Apparently, he did so after forgetting his fishing bucket during a trip, but was caught by the police mid-way, reports have said.
The video, first shared on Douyin (China's version of TikTok), showed the man explaining that he needed a quick solution to transport the fish he had caught and thus resorted to the method.
The footage, which is now viral across social media platforms, has garnered millions of views and even more criticisms, with people trolling the man for his treatment of the organisms.

Anyone who sees the video is bound to freak out and get enraged. As can be expected, the fish don't have a lot of area of movement on a car bonnet and look more trapped than free. Due to the movement of the car, they are mostly confined to the corners, making swimming or even moving a task.

Animal welfare advocates criticised the man for the inhumane act, writing, "He should be inside that bonnet too" and "Animal abuse and cruelty at its worse to say the least!"
Many pointed out how the fish could die due to being exposed to the summer heat and the engine heat from the car. "In summer he's literally steaming the fish alive from the heat!"
Others noted how the entire act seemed to be one big online engagement stunt, writing, 'Mainland China will do anything just for the content view count..
🤦🏻' and 'For internet publicity.... Should put you into a confined space to see how you like it...'
Local authorities are yet to confirm if the man faced any penalties, but the incident surely fuelled a fire online, highlighting the extent to which a person today would go just for some social media engagement and attention. As for the Chinese animal protection laws, they are limited when compared to the global standards, with their fines ranging from 500 to 2000 yuan ($70-$280) in rare enforcement cases.
