ED Raids 15 Locations Linked To Karnataka Congress MLA Over Illegal Mining Case

News183 days ago
ED raided premises linked to Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail in a money laundering probe. 15 locations in Karnataka, Goa, and Mumbai were searched.
The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday raided premises linked to Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail and some others as part of a money laundering investigation against the legislator in a case related to alleged illegal export of iron ore, official sources said.
At least 15 premises in Karnataka, Goa and Mumbai are being searched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said.
Sail is a Congress MLA representing the Karwar assembly constituency in Uttara Kannada district.
Sail, according to the sources, has been accused of exporting illegally mined iron ore which was seized by forest officials at Belekeri port in Karwar, Karnataka.
This caused 'loss" to government exchequer for an amount of about Rs 38 crore but the actual value of illegally exported ore is worth hundreds of crores of rupees, the sources said.
The case originated from a 2010 probe by the Karnataka Lokayukta, which discovered about eight lakh tons of illegally transported iron ore from Bellary to Belekeri port.
The Karnataka High Court last year had ordered the suspension of the seven-year prison sentence of the MLA in this case.
A special court had previously found Sail and others guilty in multiple cases related to the illegal export of iron ore from the Belekeri port.

PM Modi to inaugurate Rs 11,000 crore highway projects in Delhi tomorrow

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two major National Highway projects in the national capital on Sunday, that will help in easing congestion on the roads and also add to smooth and better connectivity in Delhi-NCR region. The two projects, having an estimated cost of nearly Rs 11,000 crore, will be launched by the Prime Minister at around 12.30 p.m. in Rohini, following which he will also address the public gathering. The projects, Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), are part of the government's comprehensive plan to decongest the capital, improve connectivity, cut travel time, and reduce traffic in Delhi and its surrounding areas. The 10.1 km long Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of around Rs 5,360 crore. The section will also provide multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC Blue line and Orange line, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot. Out of the 10 km long stretch, 5.9 km will be from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21, while 4.2 km will connect Dwarka Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana Border. PM Modi had inaugurated the 19 km-long Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in March 2024. The second project to be opened for public is the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at a cost of around Rs 5,580 crore. It is expected to ease traffic on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads and busy points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. It will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, reducing traffic snarls, speeding up goods movement in the NCR, and eventually contributing to seamless industrial connectivity. These initiatives reinforce the Centre's vision of creating world-class infrastructure in the capital that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility.

Mukesh Khanna Calls Out Jaya Bachchan's Behaviour Amid Parliament Video Row: ‘Journalists Ke Sath…'

Mukesh Khanna slammed Jaya Bachchan's behavior, saying her way of talking to journalists is wrong and alleging she speaks in Rajya Sabha only to oppose Modi. Jaya Bachchan has found herself in hot water after a video of her pushing a fan outside Parliament went viral. Many questioned her behaviour, and now Mukesh Khanna has also called out Jaya Bachchan. In a recent conversation, the actor shared that she is wrong in the way the actress in general talks to journalists. While chatting with FilmyGyan, and while calling out Jaya's behaviour, Mukesh said, 'Aaj kal ye jo unka journalists ke sath 'kya kar raha hai tu, kon hai, kya chahiye, this is wrong. Aap inke liye jee rahe ho, aur aajkal ye jo Rajya Sabha mein bolti hai mujhe aisa lagta hai ya to ye bigad gayi hai ghar se, ya Modi ke khilaf bolna hai isliye hi bolti hai. Aise-aisa argument deti hai jo mujhe nahi ache lagte.'" ('These days, the way she talks to journalists — 'what are you doing, who are you, what do you want, this is wrong' — you are living for them, and now when she speaks in the Rajya Sabha, I feel as if either she is upset at home or she just wants to speak against Modi. That's why she gives such arguments, which I don't like.") Why is Jaya Bachchan getting backlash? Actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan lost her cool on Tuesday when a man tried to take a selfie with her at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. A video of the incident surfaced on social media and left everyone shocked. In the clip, the Samajwadi Party MP was seen pushing a man trying to take a selfie with her. She also said, 'Kya kar rahe hain aap? (What are you doing?) What is this?" Kangana Ranaut and Ashoke Pandit call out Jaya Bachchan Taking to her Instagram stories, Kangana Ranaut wrote, 'Most spoilt and privileged woman. People put up with her tantrums/nonsense just because she is Amitabh Bachchan ji's wife. That Samajwadi topi looks like a rooster comb, while she looks like a fighting cock!! Such disgrace and shame." Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to his Instagram and said that the move was 'highly condemnable" and showed 'humiliation towards people who have elected her to serve them." He added, 'A public servant can't afford to be sulking and irritated 24×7. One expects humility and compassion from an artist of her calibre who has been loved by her fans, who are responsible for providing her this stature and position."
