Quebec bids farewell to singer Serge Fiori during national funeral in Montreal
Fiori, the co-founder of the influential French-Canadian rock band Harmonium, died on June 24 at age 73.
His family accepted the Quebec government's offer to help organize his funeral, which took the form of a musical celebration at Montreal's premier arts venue.
Politicians, performers and the public packed Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in downtown Montreal for a musical final bow that was broadcast live on Radio-Canada and the LCN network.
Fiori left his mark on Quebec's musical world with Harmonium and beyond, including as a duo with musician Richard Séguin and through solo projects.
Premier François Legault, who took part in the event, recalled listening to Harmonium's first album in 1974 as a 16-year-old, saying Fiori 'made our lives more beautiful.'

WWE Raw preview (Aug. 11, 2025): I think someone is turning heel on the best worker in WWE
Raw airs tonight (Aug. 11) with a live show from Centre Videotron in Quebec City. This is the second episode of Raw during the four week build to Clash in Paris, which takes place on Aug. 31. Women's World Champion Naomi defends the gold tonight on Raw against IYO SKY. Whoever walks out of this match as champion then moves on to face Stephanie Vaquer at Clash in Paris. IYO's request for this title match was granted by General Manager Adam Pearce, and it led to an interesting backstage exchange between SKY and Rhea Ripley. Rhea said she hopes IYO wins the title because she wants to then beat her for it. IYO responded by gently reminding Ripley that she will never beat her. If Rhea didn't appreciate that remark, perhaps she'll change her mind about who she really wants to win this championship match. A Ripley turn would be major news, but this doesn't seem like a big enough match to warrant it. What really caught my eye in this scene was IYO's interaction beforehand with the Kabuki Warriors. They offered to help her, but she declined. Is it possible that Asuka and/or Kairi Sane see IYO's reaction as a sign of weakness or lack of appreciation? I think IYO SKY has proven herself to be arguably the best worker in WWE this year. Just go rewatch her match at WrestleMania 41 if you don't believe me. But it doesn't feel like the right time to end Naomi's world title reign, so there will probably be some kind of shenanigans at the end of this title match. Will those shenanigans come in the form of another babyface turning on SKY? Tune into Raw to find out. CM Punk is opening tonight's show. Punk has a lot to get off his chest after Seth Rollins ended his extremely brief run as World Heavyweight Champion with a surprise Money in the Bank cash-in at SummerSlam. Things only got more frustrating for CM last week on Raw when he was laid out by The Vision. Will LA Knight confront CM about ruining the end of his world title match against Rollins last week? Can these babyfaces get along if they are forced to team up (along with Roman Reigns) to fight Seth and his henchmen at Clash in Paris? Last week, Sami Zayn somehow got caught up in the never-ending brawl throughout the building between between Sheamua and Rusev. Now it's Zayn vs. Rusev tonight, where Sami will likely receive another incredible pop from the live fans in Quebec. Does the Celtic Warrior plan to show up at some point to knock out Rusev with a Brogue Kick? Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch vs. Maxxine Dupri is also booked on tonight's show. This match came about after Natalya confronted The Man, and Becky cowardly opted to fight the inexperienced Dupri instead. Will Nikki Bella get some payback on Becky by finding a way to help Maxxine pull off a miracle upset? – There are at least three wrestlers in WWE currently running around as El Grande Americano. How many more will there be by the time tonight's show wraps up? – Do WWE Women's Tag team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss plan to extend Alexa's birthday celebration into this week? Which Raw team will step up to the Allies of Convenience after the Judgment Day lost last week's rematch? – AJ Styles wants another shot at Intercontinental Championship Dominik Mysterio. Assuming AJ gets what he wants, will Adam Pearce spice up the rematch with a new stipulation or gimmick? – Grayson Waller has been really good at getting his ass kicked ever since he joined up with the New Day. After Penta beat the shit out of Grayson last week, which babyface will accept the baton tonight? Does Penta have a friend or two will watch his back just in case the New Day and Waller target him again tonight? – Lyra Valkyria wants Bayley to stay out of her life. That might be hard to do considering they are both on the Raw roster. Will Bayley respect Lyra's wishes and leave her alone? – Is Karrion Kross really gone from WWE, or is this whole thing a work? – Is part-timer Brock Lesnar really not gonna be around on WWE programming yet again this week after his SummerSlam return? – Where the f*** is Omos? What will you be looking for on Raw?

Chad Michael Murray Reveals He Prayed 'Every Single Night' for 2 Years for 'Sullivan's Crossing' Gig (Exclusive)
Murray tells PEOPLE he wanted a role that would allow him the opportunity "to make sure that I'm around to be a dad" for his three kidsNEED TO KNOW Chad Michael Murray tells PEOPLE exclusively that he prayed "every single night" for two years for his role on Sullivan's Crossing so he could put his family first "It was a very specific, very detailed prayer that I put out every single night ... and here we are going into season 4," he says of the show's success The first three seasons of Sullivan's Crossing are streaming now on NetflixFor Chad Michael Murray, his role on Sullivan's Crossing is a blessing. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Murray, 43, reveals he "prayed every single night" for two years for a project like the Canadian romantic drama, which first premiered in 2023 and is based on a novel series by Robyn Carr. He says his prayers were for "a show that didn't feel gratuitous, that was very family-friendly, that ended up in a very beautiful location where my family and I felt like we could integrate into the community … with a cast that we'd all get along and everyone would bond." "It was a very specific, very detailed prayer that I put out every single night, and then came Sullivan's Crossing, and here we are going into season 4," he continues. "S---, it's awesome. It's crazy." Murray and his wife Sarah Roemer share three children — a son, born in 2015, and two daughters, born in 2017 and 2023. "Having kids, I've been very specific about what I want to do," he explains. "I want to make sure that I'm around to be a dad. It's just everything to me, being a dad." "I want to be home, I want to see them every day and I want to be a very large part of their life," he adds of Roemer and their kids. The Gilmore Girls alum says the days of doing shows that require extended time away from his family are in the rearview mirror of his career. "I have pushed myself away from all that," he notes. "I don't want to do that." is a reunion of sorts for Murray and his costar Scott Patterson. While Murray only appeared on the first two seasons of Gilmore Girls as Tristin DuGray, Patterson played Luke Danes throughout the show's entire seven-season run between 2000 and 2007 — including the 2016 limited miniseries revival. On Sullivan's Crossing, Murray plays California "Cal" Jones, the local handyman, while Patterson plays Sully Sullivan, the estranged father of Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan). "It blows my mind," Murray admits of him and Patterson finding themselves on the same show more than two decades later. "I remember when I found out that we were going to do this, I was excited to know that I was going somewhere where at least I knew somebody, which is not always the case," he says. "You end up walking in, and you never know what you're going to get, so that part of getting this job made me feel at ease." Two Decades of Progress in a Frame: SIGGRAPH's Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games Turns 20
Now Entering Its Third Decade, SIGGRAPH's Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games Course has Become the Premier Forum for Unveiling Cutting-edge Rendering Techniques That Power the Real-time Experiences of Today and Tomorrow. VANCOUVER, BC, Aug. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- SIGGRAPH 2025, taking place 10-14 August at the Vancouver Convention Centre, marks a milestone in the world of computer graphics with the 20th anniversary of the Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games course, one of the most enduring and influential innovation forums in computer graphics. Since its debut in 2006, the course has served as a launchpad for groundbreaking rendering techniques that have fundamentally reshaped how artists, rendering engineers, and game developers simulate lighting, geometry, and motion in real-time applications, especially in video games. What began as a grassroots effort to bring together rendering engineers, game developers, and technical artists, has evolved into a global forum that bridges latest research insight with industry innovation and execution. The program has consistently spotlighted state-of-the-art techniques shaping the evolution of video games, virtual productions, architectural visualization, and interactive experiences at scale. "Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games endures because it's more than a technical session, it's a living time capsule of the state of real-time rendering," said Natalya Tatarchuk, CTO of Activision, the longtime program organizer. "Every year, we bring together the visionaries, the tinkerers, the optimists who believe that you can push one more millisecond, one more polygon, one more texture. That culture of shared exploration is what makes it meaningful. It's a celebration of curiosity made concrete." A Legacy of InnovationInitially created to fill a gap in knowledge-sharing for game developers and real-time rendering practitioners, Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games now influences the pipelines of top studios and game engines alike. The program has introduced many of the field's most transformative techniques, from screen-space ambient occlusion and physically based lighting to GPU-driven pipelines and neural-based global illumination, often years before they became mainstream. Key moments include the introduction of screen-space ambient occlusion by Crytek, which has become a foundational technique across real-time graphics, the debut of temporal anti-aliasing, the early exploration of compute-based rendering pipelines by Alex Evans, and groundbreaking GPU-driven pipeline talks from AMD and Ubisoft. More recently, innovations in global illumination (including using machine learning and neural compression) from Activision, along with production insights from technical artists at studios like Naughty Dog, just to name a few presented at the forum, have highlighted the course's consistent focus: showcasing not just novel techniques, but production-tested solutions shaped by real-world constraints. "Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games doesn't just spotlight the victories of innovation, the program dives deeper," Tatarchuk explained. "We explore the limitations, we surface the intuition behind the techniques, and share the tradeoffs behind the choices made, talking openly about what didn't work and why. That culture of shared exploration is what makes Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games meaningful, it's a place where we all learn together, not just from success, but from the honest, hard-earned lessons, too." 2025 LineupThis year's two-part course, held on Tuesday, 12 August, in the morning and afternoon, will feature a special 20-year retrospective by Tatarchuk, along with the following cutting-edge presentations: Activision will present a novel solution for order-independent transparency developed for "Call of Duty®", addressing a longstanding challenge in real-time graphics with a scalable and performant algorithm tailored for unpredictable player-driven scenes. Ubisoft will share technical insights from "Assassin's Creed Shadows", where the team successfully merged ray tracing and global illumination techniques within a complex open-world pipeline, showcasing the intersection of cinematic quality and expansive interactivity. MachineGames will reveal how it achieved film-quality rendering at 60+ frames per second across platforms in "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" using strand-based hair as the sole solution for human hair, leveraging GPU optimizations to deliver film-quality visuals across a wide range of hardware. id Software will showcase how idTech 8's real-time global illumination replaced pre-baked lighting to accelerate workflows, boost artistic flexibility, and power "DOOM: The Dark Age" at 60Hz or higher on all platforms. HypeHype will present a novel stochastic tile-based lighting algorithm that enables fully dynamic, fixed-cost local lighting with shadows, even on low-end mobile GPUs, empowering user-generated content across devices by delivering high-performance, scalable lighting with minimal technical overhead for creators. NVIDIA will unveil a hybrid real-time subsurface scattering technique that combines volumetric path tracing and a new physically based diffusion model, enhanced with ReSTIR sampling, to deliver near path-traced quality for lifelike skin and translucent materials at interactive frame rates. Epic Games will showcase MegaLights, a new stochastic direct lighting system in Unreal Engine 5 that enables artists to place vastly more dynamic, shadowed area lights while maintaining performance and realism on ray-tracing-enabled platforms and current-gen consoles through a fully scalable, hardware-conscious pipeline. Looking Forward: The Next Era of Real-TimeAs the Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games course enters its third decade, the field faces both complexity and opportunity. "We are at a significant inflection point. We haven't yet exhausted the potential of traditional GPU pipelines, and we're still learning how to better parallelize and scale real-time systems for truly dynamic content," said Tatarchuk. "At the same time, we're facing increasing platform fragmentation, which means we need rendering solutions that are deeply scalable, capable of delivering consistent fidelity across a vast range of hardware generations. And then there's generative AI, which is the wild card." With advancements in generative AI, real-time pipelines could be poised for disruption. Meanwhile, real-time methods originally forged for gaming are increasingly influencing film, virtual production, and simulation, a cross-pollination first envisioned in the program's earliest days. "The one thing that hasn't changed, and for Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games it is non-negotiable, is that every frame is still built under a promise that it will respond to the player; that their interaction matters, and it isn't predetermined," Tatarchuk explained. "That is the core of what we mean by real-time. And that is why the field, in my opinion, remains so creatively and technically exciting and challenging." To dive deeper into the evolution and future of real-time rendering in games, listen to "SIGGRAPH Spotlight: Episode 76 – Creating a Lasting Impact With Real-Time Rendering", featuring program organizer Natalya Tatarchuk, and explore the full Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games schedule at About ACM, ACM SIGGRAPH, and SIGGRAPH 2025The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's largest educational and scientific computing society, uniting educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field's challenges.
