Friendship will shape Malaysia-Russia future ties, says Sultan Ibrahim
MOSCOW (Aug 6): His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, says that his state visit to Russia reflects his sincere wish to strengthen ties and cooperation between the two nations.
His Majesty said Malaysia regarded Russia as a trusted and important partner.
'Our diplomatic relations span more than five decades, having been formally established in April 1967. I'm reminded that Malaysia was among the earliest ASEAN nations to establish ties with Moscow.
'As a Russian saying goes, friendship is more valuable than money. It is this spirit of friendship, I believe, that will continue to shape the direction of the relationship between our two nations for the benefit of our people.'
Sultan Ibrahim made the remarks during an official meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin following a state welcoming ceremony at the Grand Kremlin Palace here today.
Accompanying His Majesty were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who is also Minister-in-Attendance, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin and Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai.
Putin was joined by senior Russian officials, including Aide to the Russian President for International Affairs Yury Ushakov, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Pankin and Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Fomin.
Sultan Ibrahim is on his maiden state visit to Russia until Aug 10 at the invitation of Putin.

NEW DELHI: India shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and one other military aircraft during clashes in May, India's air force chief said on Saturday. Pakistan has claimed that it shot down six Indian aircraft during the clashes, including a French-made Rafale fighter. India has acknowledged some losses but denied losing six aircraft. France's air chief, General Jerome Bellanger, has previously said that he has seen evidence of the loss of three Indian fighters, including a Rafale. Indian Air Force has not commented on the claims.

DPM Zahid arrives in Singapore for republic's national day parade
SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived in Singapore on Saturday for a two-day working visit and to represent the Malaysian government at the 2025 Singapore National Day Parade this evening. He was received by Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon. "This visit is highly significant as this year marks the 60th anniversary of Malaysia-Singapore diplomatic relations. "God willing, I believe this visit will further strengthen the longstanding friendship between our two nations and open more doors for cooperation that will benefit our people and countries," Zahid said in a post on Facebook. During the visit, he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and hold a bilateral meeting with Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong. Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister, said discussions will focus on bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest to strengthen existing ties. In 2024, Singapore was Malaysia's second-largest trading partner globally and its largest among Asean member states, with total trade amounting to about RM396.22 billion (US$86.69 billion).
