Amazon asks corporate employees to work in warehouses for …; says, ‘This support is entirely…'
has asked its corporate workers in New York to "volunteer" and assist with grocery deliveries as the company approaches its annual Prime Day sales event. This internal request aims to support the firm during what is expected to be one of its busiest periods. In a Slack message, seen by The Guardian, an Amazon area manager called for white-collar volunteers from the New York City area, including engineers and marketing staff, to "help us out with Prime Day to deliver to customers on our biggest days yet." However, the report didn't mention how many employees accepted the offer.
What Amazon said about making this request to its corporate employees
In a statement,
Griffin Buch
, an Amazon spokesperson, said:
'This support is entirely optional, and it allows corporate employees to get closer to customers while enabling our store teams to focus on the work that's most impactful.'
He also added that this is not the first time 'grocery corporate' employees have been 'invited to volunteer' with fulfilment.

The request was made a day before Prime Day began in the US. Volunteers were "needed" to work two-hour shifts between 10 AM and 6 PM on multiple days of this week at a warehouse in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighbourhood, which is part of Amazon Fresh's
grocery delivery service
.
Corporate employees assisting at the warehouse would be tasked with picking items, preparing carts and bags for delivery, packing boxes, and distributing snacks to boost morale. The message also noted that volunteers would be permitted to take meetings and calls in a conference room and that the effort would help connect warehouse and corporate teams.
Amazon typically brings on thousands of additional warehouse workers ahead of its annual Prime Day event, which triggers a sharp rise in orders and delivery demand as the retail giant slashes prices across a wide range of products.
Amazon Fresh — the grocery delivery service exclusive to Prime members and separate from
Whole Foods
— is also offering Prime Day promotions. These include a free 90-day trial and $30 off for existing users, all while continuing to provide same-day or next-day delivery. New York remains one of Amazon's busiest markets in the US.

Market timing has little impact on SIP returns: Motilal Oswal MF study
Mumbai: Timing matters a lot when you're batting - like finding the sweet spot on the bat. In mutual fund investing, it might matter a lot less. A study by Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund shows that investors who started SIPs at market peaks and those who began at market bottoms ended up with nearly identical long-term returns. The first period examined in the study was from 2000 to 2005, a time marked by the aftermath of the global bubble burst and the Indian market's subsequent recovery - a phase of high volatility. During this period, the Nifty 500 Index 's price-to-earnings (PE) ratio swung sharply, peaking at 37.26 on February 24, 2000, and bottoming out at 11.58 on September 21, 2001. Between 2011 and 2015, the stock market witnessed a volatile period. Equities were under pressure till mid-2013 after India was famously lumped together as part of 'Fragile Five'— a term used to describe emerging market economies that were vulnerable to capital flight risks. Subsequently, stocks rebounded on indications that the Narendra Modi-led BJP is coming to power. A SIP started on August 19, 2015, when the Nifty 500 PE was 25.79, returned 15.26%, compared with a SIP started on August 28, 2013, at a PE of 15.11, which returned 14.89%. 'Consistent long-term investing through SIPs have shown effectiveness regardless of where the market stands during the time of investing,' said Oswal.

Industries and PWD ministers to meet Chakan MIDC stakeholders over poor roads, traffic woes
Pune: Industries minister Uday Samant and public works department (PWD) minister Shivendraraje Bhosale will on Wednesday meet public representatives and officials from various govt agencies to discuss the issues related to the deteriorating road condition and traffic congestion in the areas surrounding Chakan MIDC. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 12.30pm in Mumbai and will also cover long-pending proposals, including road widening and development of elevated roads in the region. The meeting comes in response to appeals from MIDC employees and local residents, who raised concerns over daily traffic chaos on connecting roads and highlighted the worsening state of Talegaon-Shikrapur Road. They demanded urgent intervention from state govt, especially after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis recently held a meeting to address similar issues in Hinjewadi IT Park. Dhiraj Mukte, a Chakan resident, said the agencies responsible for the road's upkeep failed to carry out timely repairs before the monsoon. "The road is now riddled with potholes that collect mud and water, leading to frequent accidents," he said. Bhosari BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who has been invited to the upcoming meeting, said, "Instead of just extending the support, I am actively pursuing these issues with govt. Just as steps are being taken to resolve the issues in the IT park, we will also work to address the challenges faced by industries in Chakan MIDC." One of the key roads in the region, the Nashik-Pune highway, which falls under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), connects MIDC to various parts of Pune. Thousands of employees commuting daily via this route face traffic jams. The meeting will also discuss the development of the proposed Nashik Phata-Rajgurunagar elevated corridor, which is expected to be implemented by NHAI and ease the traffic on the highway.
