Kayalode suicide: CPI(M) trying to divert attention from local protests, alleges SDPI leader

SDPI State General Secretary K.K. Abdul Jabbar has alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] is attempting to cover up public outrage in Dharmadam over the suicide of a young married woman by spreading misinformation and making baseless insinuations. He accused CPI(M) district secretary K.K. Ragesh of deflecting blame instead of seeking justice for the victim, whose parents are reportedly party supporters.
'Instead of helping the grieving family, the CPI(M) is hiding behind the argument of a moral trial to justify their complicity in wrongdoing,' he said at a press conference in Kannur on Sunday (June 22).
He further criticised Mr. Ragesh for what he described as a 'hypocritical lecture on morality', calling it absurd given the party's history of political violence.
Referring to past 'political killings', Mr. Jabbar drew parallels with the Ariyil Shukoor and T.P. Chandrasekharan cases, accusing the CPI(M) of adopting 'Stalinist tactics' and turning mob justice into a political tool. 'Mr. Ragesh talks of the legal system as if the party ever respected it,' he added.
The SDPI leader condemned the alleged attempts by the CPI(M) to associate his party with religious extremism and accused them of echoing the language of the Sangh Parivar.
'Equating SDPI with the Sangh Parivar is not just misleading but dangerous. It shows the kind of political compromise happening within the CPI(M),' he said. He strongly refuted Mr. Ragesh's claims that the SDPI is anti-women.
'Of the 14 local body representatives of SDPI in Kannur, eight are women. These are not the actions of an anti-women organisation,' he stated. Mr. Jabbar also slammed alleged attempts to portray a public discussion involving the deceased woman's family members and local leaders as a 'moral trial.'
'The gathering included relatives of both the young woman and the man involved, local Mahal office-bearers, and leaders from the Congress and Indian Union Muslim League. Twisting this into a secret mob trial is politically motivated,' he said.
He demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who also handles the Home portfolio, for allegedly failing to protect the rights and dignity of the victim.
The SDPI also announced plans to organise a public event to counter what they called the CPI(M)'s propaganda and to present what they claimed were the real facts of the case.

Memorial to be built in honour of Kharwar brothers: Jaiswal

Patna: State BJP president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal on Sunday said a memorial would be constructed in the state to commemorate contributions of two brothers from the Kharwar tribe, Nilambar and Pitambar, in the freedom struggle. Jaiswal announced this while addressing a convention of Kharwar tribe here. He also said a committee headed by members of Kharwar tribe would be set up to look into their problems, and follow up action would be taken to find solutions to them. Although the Kharwars are mostly found in the Bhagalpur and Munger divisions, their maximum concentration is in the Pirpainty assembly constituency of Bhagalpur district and Manihari in Kathar district. Both the constituencies, earlier, were general seats, but Pirpainty was later made a reserved seat for the scheduled caste people, and Manihari was designated as scheduled tribe (ST) seat. Incidentally, Kharwars were earlier put in the category of SC group, but after a long campaign and social mobilisation done by former CPI MLA of Pirpainty, Ambika Mandal, the Kharwar was notified as an ST group. NIA arrests one more accused in Maoists Northern Region Bureau terror revival conspiracy case

ANI 22 Jun 2025, 19:47 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key accused in a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB) terror revival conspiracy case from Delhi, the probe agency said on Sunday. NIA also seized devices including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material during a search in the West Delhi house of the accused, identified as Vishal Singh, originally hailing from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. According to NIA, investigations have revealed that the accused, a member of the CPI (Maoist), had delivered a drone to leaders of the banned terror outfit in Chhakarbanda/Panchrukhiya forest area of Bihar to further its violent anti-national activities. He had imparted technical training to other cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members in the deep forest areas of Bihar in 2019. NIA in August 2024, had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, in-charge of the State Organising Committee (SOC) Haryana and Punjab of CPI (Maoist). The case relates to the terror organisation's conspiracy to re-energise its decrepit influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, comprising UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The conspiracy involves recruitment of cadres and strengthening of the organisation in the region through underground cadres working in urban areas, along with some Over Ground Workers (OGWs) operating in the guise of activists, the probe agency said. Several front organisations and student wings have been used to prepare the ground for promoting the conspiracy, aimed at waging war against the Government of India. They were receiving funds from the outfit's Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB), particularly from Jharkhand. Further investigation is underway. (ANI)

"Consulting all left parties; will come out with strong statement condemning US bombing on Iran": CPI's D Raja

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Sunday condemned the recent United States airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'silence' on the matter. Speaking to ANI, Raja said that the CPI is in talks with other left parties of India to formulate a united response condemning US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and PM Modi's silence on the matter. 'Our party is consulting all other left parties in India. We are going to come out with a strong statement condemning the US bombing on Iran, condemning Modi's silence and not opening his mouth to utter a word expressing our country's policy...' D Raja said. The US struck Iran's three nuclear sites -Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow- on early Sunday and warned Tehran of further retaliation if peace is not achieved. Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that an emergency meeting would take place on Monday in light of the developments taking place in West Asia. Earlier in the day, the IAEA confirmed that there has been no reported increase in off-site radiation levels following the strikes. 'Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran -- including Fordow -- the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time. IAEA will provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available,' the agency said in a statement. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US military action, stating that Trump's bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history. Meanwhile, India continues its evacuation efforts for Indian nationals in Iran, with multiple flights planned to bring back Indians from the conflict-hit region. (ANI)
