No more glam: Bengaluru iconic Lalbagh Botanical Garden may bar photo shoots, reels; officials cite ecological damage, public discomfort

BENGALURU: Close on the heels of the state govt's decision to ban film and wedding shoots at Cubbon Park, Bengaluru's iconic Lalbagh Botanical Garden is also considering similar restrictions. The department of horticulture is in the final stages of preparing a proposal to ban all types of photo and video shoots - including pre- and post-wedding shoots, baby and modelling portfolios, Instagram reels, and commercial filming - inside Lalbagh. Officials, however, have clarified that the aim is not to restrict public enjoyment, but to strike a balance between public access and ecological preservation. Official: There're concerns about near-obscene poses in public too Lalbagh is not just a park — it's a living, breathing biodiversity zone. It must be protected,' a senior horticulture official said. M Jagadish, joint director (parks and gardens), horticulture department, said: 'We are working on a formal proposal based on the expert committee's recommendations. The same protectionist approach adopted for Cubbon Park is being extended to Lalbagh.' An expert committee headed by former IFS officer and ecologist AN Yellappa Reddy has been formed to recommend rules. Loud noise, use of artificial lighting, often seen during weddings or modelling shoots, can disturb bees and nesting birds. 'There were instances where people were stung by bees after flashlights disturbed nearby hives,' he said. There are also concerns over near-obscene poses or costume changes in public. The official said: 'That can be uncomfortable for other visitors, especially children and senior citizens. In some cases, photographers and couples were seen climbing trees or standing on flowerbeds to explore better photo and video angles, damaging plants and trees.' Dads who let go of legacy to allow kids to forge own paths

Lucknow: Letting go of legacy and tremendous societal pressure, Pramod Kumar Dikshit, a former civil servant, let both his sons follow their heart and forge their own path. Prioritizing their individuality and well-being over traditional norms, Dikshit, 70, allowed his sons to walk different paths — dedicated to rock music and creative fields. Talking to TOI, his younger son Anurag, a singer and songwriter based in Noida, said, "We're truly grateful that he never forced us to follow in his footsteps, even though he's a PhD in chemistry and later became a government officer." "During school, we were good students and he did hope we might take the civil services exam. But when we decided to pursue creative careers, he gave us the freedom to choose. He never interfered or pressured us. Instead, he gave us the space to live life on our terms—to explore, experiment, grow, and enjoy a meaningful life," he added. Pramod said, "I only did what my father, school principal in Bharthana (Etawah), taught me: To never interfere in the choices of kids. Instead, encourage them... I never pushed them into a rat race or cared about 'log kya kahenge'." "Despite being in civil service, my father gave us the freedom to choose a creative field. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Boots is giving free 75-minute hearing checks in West Mickley. In yet another example of a modern and supportive parenting, Prayagraj's Prakash Chaurasia, a former bidi factory owner and a garment businessman, allowed his daughter Nanda to choose a completely different career in classical dance. Much against the wishes of his joint family members, Prakash shifted to Prayagraj from Suriyawan town in Bhadohi to enable his daughter to learn dance from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. Today, Nanda owns two dance institutes in Kanpur and Prayagraj. "By encouraging me to explore my interests, make my own choices, and express my individuality, my dad helped me develop into a confident, self-assured individual. This approach had a profoundly positive impact on my life, allowing me to discover my true passion and strength," Nanda said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
