Hold periodic reviews to ensure compliance with court orders: Madras HC to police
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered the police department to conduct periodic reviews of court orders in criminal cases and comply with its directions within a stipulated time. The order was issued by Justice AD Jagadish Chandira while disposing of a contempt of court petition filed by J Manohar Das against the Koyambedu police for wilful disobedience of the court's order for action on a complaint he had lodged.
'All police commissioners and SPs shall conduct monthly reviews of court directions for time-bound action and ensure digital tracking of compliance,' the judge said in the order passed on Wednesday.
The court also directed the authorities to complete the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) 2.0 project within four months and instructed the home department and the DGP to implement the SOP issued by the court on December 8, 2024.

U'khand CM orders thorough probe into Assam woman's death after Sarma prod
1 2 Guwahati: Following a request from his Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma, for a comprehensive and time-bound investigation into the death of Rosmita Hojai in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday directed the DGP to conduct a thorough and detailed probe. Rosmita, who hailed from Assam's Dima Hasao district, was reported missing from Rishikesh on June 6. Five days later, her body was found floating in the Ganga. Notwithstanding their political differences, Assam Congress president and deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, also wrote to Dhami, urging him to probe Rosmita's death from all angles. Various organisations and locals in Dima Hasao too have taken out protest marches, seeking justice for the bereaved family. "We share your concern, Hon'ble CM Shri @himantabiswa Ji. We are fully committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and timely investigation," Dhami wrote in a post on X, on Friday night. "I have directed the state's DGP to conduct a thorough and detailed investigation of the entire incident," Dhami said. Sarma shared his Uttarakhand counterpart's post on Saturday, saying he was 'grateful' to Dhami. According to the information shared by her family, Sarma said Rosmita travelled to Delhi to appear for a recruitment examination and later was accompanied by two individuals to Rishikesh. "Subsequently, she went missing and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death have raised serious concerns of possible foul play. Therefore, the mother of the deceased girl filed a zero FIR in Assam, which has since been transferred to the concerned police station in Uttarakhand," Sarma wrote. On his part, Gaurav, citing media reports, wrote to Dhami that the last two people seen with Rosmita had allegedly taken her to Uttarakhand. DGP gives 1-month deadline to fix policing gaps in Patna
Patna: Amid rising crime incidents in Patna district, state director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar and ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan held a high-level review meeting at the City SP (east) office on Saturday afternoon. The two-and-a-half-hour session focused on improving policing in the region. Officials including ASPs, SDPOs and DSPs from the eastern region were present, presenting status reports on criminal incidents and action taken. The DGP pointed out several gaps in policing and issued a one-month deadline for officers to implement corrective measures. "We reviewed various aspects of policing, including pending cases, execution of warrants, patrolling efficiency, and the speed of trials. Gaps were identified and plans for improvement put in place," said ADG Kundan Krishnan after the meeting. He added that a follow-up review would be conducted in a month to evaluate progress. Regarding a recent incident on Atal Path, the ADG said the people involved were not hardened criminals. "They panicked during a vehicle check, which led to them attempting to run over police personnel," he said.
