Patna: Amid rising crime incidents in Patna district, state director general of police (DGP)
Vinay Kumar
and ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan held a high-level review meeting at the City SP (east) office on Saturday afternoon.
The two-and-a-half-hour session focused on improving policing in the region.
Officials including ASPs, SDPOs and DSPs from the eastern region were present, presenting status reports on criminal incidents and action taken. The DGP pointed out several gaps in policing and issued a one-month deadline for officers to implement corrective measures.
"We reviewed various aspects of policing, including pending cases, execution of warrants, patrolling efficiency, and the speed of trials.
Gaps were identified and plans for improvement put in place," said ADG Kundan Krishnan after the meeting. He added that a follow-up review would be conducted in a month to evaluate progress.
Regarding a recent incident on Atal Path, the ADG said the people involved were not hardened criminals. "They panicked during a vehicle check, which led to them attempting to run over police personnel," he said.
The meeting was also attended by central range IG Garima Malik, SSP Avkash Kumar and city SP (east) K Ram Das.

Air India crash: 47 victims identified via DNA; 24 bodies handed over

Three days after an Air India flight bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad, authorities have identified 47 victims through DNA testing. Of these, 24 bodies have been handed over to their families, according to an official statement issued on Sunday. 'We have established contact with the next of kin/relatives of all passengers and crew members, expressing our condolences and helping them with the next steps. Over 400 family members have reached Ahmedabad and are being assisted by our teams on the ground,' Air India said in a statement on social media site X. 'Every affected family in Ahmedabad has been assigned at least one caregiver by Air India. Air India is working closely with other Tata Group companies to provide every possible assistance to the families and loved ones of those deceased, which remains our number one priority,' the airline added. Authorities are conducting DNA tests to confirm the identities of the deceased, as several bodies were either burned or damaged. 'A total of 47 plane crash victims have been identified so far through DNA matching. Of these, bodies of 24 victims have been handed over to the respective families. These deceased were from Rajasthan and different parts of Gujarat,' said Additional Civil Superintendent Dr Rajnish Patel. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday stated that former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the individuals who died in the Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad. His identity was verified through DNA matching. All but one of the 242 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 787-8 (AI171), along with 29 people on the ground, including five MBBS students, died in the crash on Thursday. The aircraft crashed into a medical college campus in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 p.m. The crash site was sealed on Saturday following the conclusion of rescue operations. Investigations are ongoing, with teams from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, Boeing and other civil aviation authorities inspecting the area. One of the plane's black boxes has been recovered. As of 14 June, Air India reported that it had completed safety checks on nine of its Boeing 787 aircraft and aimed to finish inspections on the remaining 24 within the timeline set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Air India also announced an interim payment of ₹25 lakh, approximately £21,000, to each family of the deceased and the lone survivor. This is in addition to the ₹1 crore (approximately £85,000) support announced earlier by Tata Sons.

Air India plane crash: 45 DNA matches, Vijay Rupani's last rites in Rajkot tomorrow

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 15 (ANI): Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel on Sunday said that the DNA of 45 deceased have been matched with their relatives, and confirmed that the death toll in the Ahmedabad plane crash stands at 274. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed and rammed into a doctor's hostel shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12. 'Till now, 45 DNA samples have matched. Around 274 people have lost their lives in the heart-wrenching incident,' state's Health Minister said. He also said that the funeral of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among the victims, will be held tomorrow with full state honours. Patel stated, 'CM Bhupendra Patel informed Vijay Rupani's family about the DNA samples matching as soon as the information was received... Tomorrow, at 11.30 am, the family will receive Vijay Rupani's mortal remains from the Civil Hospital. The mortal remains will be taken to Rajkot by air and reach there at 2. The funeral will be carried out at 5 pm and the last rites will be completed at 6 pm with state honours.' The state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) team are working to match more DNA samples. According to Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), HP Sanghavi, DNA examination is critically needed to identify the victims of the tragic crash, citing that the extreme heat from the blaze that erupted after the crash had made the traditional method of identification ineffective. Air India on Saturday said that an interim financial assistance package of Rs 25 lakh will be provided to the 'families of the deceased and to the survivor' of the tragic crash. In a post on X, the Tata-owned airline stated that the package was in addition to the Rs 1 crore support already announced by Tata Sons. On Thursday, the Air India flight AI171 was en route to London from Ahmedabad when it crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport, ramming into a doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. There were 242 people on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Of the passengers, 241 died in the crash. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. (ANI)

Vadodara mourns plane crash victims, five cremated

Vadodara: A pall of gloom descended on Vadodara city as the bodies of five victims of the Ahmedabad airplane crash were cremated on Sunday. The authorities handed them to the family after their DNAs matched on Saturday. Three of these victims were residents of the Manjalpur area. The body of Kalpana Prajapati was brought to the city at 7 am on Sunday. "Her elder son arrived from the UK on Saturday evening. The final rituals were conducted, and Prajapati's body was cremated in the Manjalpur crematorium in the presence of her family, relatives, and friends," said Tejal Rana, Prajapati's friend. Hundreds turned up at her funeral. Prajapati delayed her visit to the UK as she wanted to travel with her sister-in-law. She boarded the June 12 flight alone as her sister-in-law's visa was rejected. Narendra Panchal and his wife Usha, residents of Manjalpur, were also travelling on the fateful flight to meet their son in the UK. Their final rites were conducted on Sunday. Another victim, Alcena Macwan, had travelled to the city from London to meet her parents who stay in the Nizampura area.
