Women's World Cup: Thiruvananthapuram could host matches scheduled at M Chinnaswamy Stadium
The future of ICC Women's ODI World Cup matches scheduled to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has slipped into uncertainty after the hosts KSCA could not obtain the police clearance by August 10.
The BCCI had informed the Karnataka State Cricket Association to get the necessary approvals by last Saturday, but, as per the local police officials the process is yet to be completed as on Tuesday.
Thiruvananthapuram to host Bengaluru's matches?
Meanwhile, the Greenfields Stadium in Karyavattom, Thiruvananthapuram, has emerged as a possible alternative venue to host the matches scheduled in Bengaluru.
The ICC showpiece's tournament opener between India and Sri Lanka is currently scheduled to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on September 30, followed by matches between England and South Africa (October 3), India and Bangladesh (October 26), the second semifinal on October 30, and the final on November 2.

It has been reliably learnt that Kerala Cricket Association officials have been asked about the competition schedule and the venue's readiness to host the big-ticket matches in just over a month's time.
As per ICC guidelines, the host association needs to hand over the venue to the global governing body 30 days prior to the tournament's beginning, and no other matches should be held at the stadium in that period.
However, the Greenfields Stadium is scheduled to host the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) matches between August 21 and September 7, but the KCA officials are confident of moving the T20 matches to another venue if the World Cup games come their way.
'We have backup venues, if the World Cup matches are shifted here. But as of now we are waiting for a final confirmation,' sources close to the development told PTI.
The KSCA officials did not respond to questions regarding the possible venue change, but it's learnt that they have put forward the proposal of holding the World Cup matches behind closed doors in order to secure the police approval.
It may be recalled that the KSCA had to shift the ongoing Maharajah T20 Trophy to Mysuru even after deciding to conduct it behind closed doors at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The state body was forced to move the tournament after the one-man D'Cunha Commission deemed the Chinnaswamy Stadium 'unsafe' for large-scale events.
The state government appointed the commission to inquire into the stampede on June 4 here in which people died and several others were injured during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations.

Those People Are Not Even On My Contact List : Venkatesh Iyer Reacts On KKRs 23.75 Cr Tag Amidst Trade Rumours
Venkatesh Iyer's IPL 2025 season with Kolkata Knight Riders was dismal by his standards. Purchased for a record ₹23.75 crore, he faced intense public scrutiny and constant comparisons between his price tag and returns, even while battling a painful webbing injury. He scored 142 runs in 11 games at n average of 20.29. Despite the noise, Iyer insists his preparation and effort remain the same, regardless of the money involved. A selfless team player, he often shifted batting positions and even played through injury in the Ranji Trophy to help his skipper. He believes 'impact' matters more than raw statistics, with contributions under pressure carrying special value. Eyeing a return to the Indian team, he aims to rebuild his bowling workload, though he feels the Impact Player rule has limited his IPL growth. 'What I have taken back from this season is the fact that performance under pressure requires a special skillset,' said Venkatesh Iyer in a conversation with Sportskeeda after what he admits was an underwhelming IPL 2025 campaign. A Team Player Through and Through KKR had also envisioned leadership qualities in Iyer someone who embodies the spirit of a team man. The left-hander has repeatedly sacrificed personal milestones, shuffling up and down the batting order based on match situations. 'If Varun can make a comeback, I can also definitely do it he said recently, referencing teammate Varun Chakravarthy's return. Auction Day and Coping With Price Tag Pressure On being asked about the day of the mega auction, Iyer recalls: 'After a point, I did not watch the auction [laughs]. When you are with your team, you tend to enjoy the moment. But yeah, I understood that if the amount is big, the ask is big, the responsibility is big. Responsibility is not just in terms of runs to be scored or wickets to be picked, it's about the role in the team and how you can create a bigger impact. So I did have that in mind. Also, with regard to my preparation, nothing changes. Be it ₹20 lakh or ₹20 crore, preparation won't change. You have to do double the hard work as the previous year, regardless of the money. That day was very hectic but, post that, things were kind of back to normal.' Many fans questioned the ₹23.75 crore figure, piling on unnecessary pressure. His response is simple: 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list. So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me... there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to. People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them.' Support From KKR Management According to Iyer, KKR shielded him from much of the noise: 'They know the magnitude of it, obviously from experience... They have made a team, they wanted the team to do well, and I am part of a team. And it is my duty to do well for them. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But my aim is always to try and win as many games as possible for KKR.' He also sees the price tag as recognition of his journey: 'I would like to think so. But it's not about just the money, it's about where I fit in their scheme of things. Venky sir once told me something, which I felt made a lot of sense. He said, 'At the end of the day, you are given 120 units to build a team. Once the team is built, it doesn't matter how many units you have spent on what. It is a team that has been made now, that's it.'

Virat Kohli quells retirement rumours with silent gesture, hints at Australia ODI tour return
Former India captain Virat Kohli silently quelled retirement rumours that have gripped Indian cricket since the conclusion of the England tour. Earlier reports had hinted that the international careers of Kohli and Rohit Sharma were nearing their end, suggesting that the duo might not extend their ODI journey until the 2027 World Cup. However, Kohli put the chatter to rest without uttering a single word. Virat Kohli dropped a hint on his ODI return(AFP) A few days ago, Kohli shared a picture on his Instagram story with Gujarat Titans' assistant coach Naeem Amin, following an indoor net session. He captioned the post: "Thanks for helping out with the hit, brother. Always lovely to see you." The picture suggested that Kohli had returned to practice after a short break following the rigorous IPL season, signalling that he was still active and focused on preparation. Despite this, a report in Dainik Jagran speculated that Kohli's international career could come to an end on the upcoming tour of Australia. The report noted that if both Kohli and Rohit wished to prolong their ODI careers, they would need to participate in domestic cricket to remain relevant and maintain their place in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. In the days that followed, a fan shared the Instagram picture with the caption: "Virat Kohli prepping for the Aussie ODIs." Kohli's official Instagram account liked the post, further fueling speculation about his ongoing preparation for international matches. The India legend will hence return to action later this year in October for the three-match series Down Under. Following the media frenzy, the BCCI stepped in to clarify the situation. The board stated that it was not concerned about Kohli and Rohit's future at the moment, as the immediate focus was entirely on the upcoming Asia Cup and preparations for the T20 World Cup next year. "Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have plans regarding their future, they would inform the BCCI brass, just as they did before the England Test tour. From the Indian team's perspective, the next major assignment is the T20 World Cup in February, and the immediate focus is on fielding the best possible team for the Asia Cup while ensuring all players are fit and available," a source privy to the developments told PTI on condition of anonymity. The report also emphasised that the BCCI would not make any hasty decisions given the significant public interest surrounding the two stars. Additionally, media rumours suggesting that the board had offered Kohli and Rohit a farewell game in Sydney on October 25 were dismissed. A BCCI source confirmed that no such discussions had taken place so far, underscoring that the duo's future remained entirely in their hands, with the board concentrating on upcoming tournaments.
