Vital charity could be forced to close branch in Bournemouth
Samaritans is consulting with branches and will be closing around 100 of its more than 200 locations across the UK and Republic of Ireland as early as April next year.
The UK-based charity that provides confidential, emotional support to anyone struggling to cope, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, insisted its volunteers will continue to be available as usual.
The Bournemouth branch has been open since 1961 and was the sixth branch to open outside of Central London.
In 2024, volunteers in Bournemouth responded to more than 18,000 calls and around 7,000 emails.
The charity's chief executive Julie Bentley said: 'We are engaging with our volunteers on proposed improvements that will mean we are able to answer more calls, have more volunteers on duty, and be there for more people in their darkest moments."
She added it had "become increasingly clear" having over 200 branches is "not sustainable" and is preventing the charity from providing the best possible service.
If you are struggling, you can call Samaritans for free on 116 123, email them at jo@samaritans.org, or visit samaritans.org to find your nearest branch.

Tasty discuss board appointment and funding with David Page
UK's casual dining restaurant operator Tasty has confirmed advanced discussions with PizzaExpress former CEO David Page and Fulham Shore former finance director Nicholas Wong regarding potential board appointments, and also strategic funding opportunities, which may include an equity placing. The company is considering various funding options to invest in future strategic opportunities. This follows reports from Sky News that Page is looking to raise nearly £10m ($13.4m) from institutional investors. If successful, this move could lead to changes in Tasty's leadership structure. According to sources, the potential equity raise could result in Page becoming Tasty executive chairman. The company, which is the owner of the Wildwood and dim t dining brands, is also expected to undergo a rebranding to Bow Street Group on the London Stock Exchange, the news channel added. The deal would involve Tasty acquiring Page as well as his associates' cash shell. Nicholas Wong, given his prior experience working with Page at previous establishments, is set to assume the role of finance chief at Bow Street Group, if the proposal becomes successful. The current and proposed members of the board are expected to contribute over £1m to the share placing. Page's plans also include a review of Tasty's current restaurant portfolio. The fundraising efforts are being managed by investment banking firms Allenby Capital and Cavendish. Tasty plans to make further announcements as developments unfold. In 2023, Japan's Toridoll Holdings acquired Page's previous venture, Fulham Shore, which included the Franco Manca pizza chain, in a deal valued at £93m. Toridoll made the offer to acquire Fulham Shore, in April 2023. Boss Rohl leaves beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has left the crisis-hit Championship club by mutual consent. The 36-year-old's departure, less than two weeks before the season starts, is the latest development in a chaotic summer. The Owls are under a number of embargoes because of financial issues, including players being paid late in both May and June, and owner Dejphon Chansiri is looking to sell the club. Rohl had looked set to leave last month when he did not return to take pre-season training but eventually came back in early July. The club have confirmed that coaches Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson and Sal Bibbo have all also left and BBC Radio Sheffield understands that Henrik Pedersen, who took pre-season training before Rohl's return, is likely to be named his successor. The German took over at Hillsborough in October 2023 with the side having made their worst ever start to a season and he led them on a fantastic run of form to avoid relegation back to League One. Wednesday then finished 12th in 2024-25 but won just one of their final nine matches as their play-off push faded away. After the final game of last season at Watford Rohl intimated that his time at the club could be up, before the off-field issues took centre stage. The Owls start the new Championship season with a trip to relegated Leicester City on Sunday, 10 August. More to follow.
