Ekta Kapoor issues statement as government bans apps hosting ‘obscene content', says she isn't associated with ALTT
Addressing media speculation, Ekta Kapoor clarified, 'Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to such reports, Ms Ekta Kapoor and Mrs Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts.' She further stated, 'Balaji Telefilms Limited is fully compliant of all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance,' concluding her statement with the caption, 'To whomsoever it may concern.'
In an earlier conversation with Faye D'Souza, Ekta Kapoor reflected on her time running ALTT, formerly known as ALTBalaji, saying she was 'offending a new person every day.' She explained her intention to portray content in a progressive light, sharing, 'Because everyone is telling me that you are making these women wear sarees, it is regressive. I think that it is equally progressive and this is equally progressive. Why not celebrate women in costumes like you celebrate women in sarees?'

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in coordination with several ministries and industry bodies, has ordered the blocking of 25 OTT apps and websites including ALTT, ULLU, and Desiflix for hosting content deemed obscene, vulgar, and in some cases pornographic. Officials identified platforms such as Big Shots App, Gulab App, HotX VIP, and Mojflix among those violating legal provisions. The action follows complaints from the National Commission on Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and public concerns raised over the past year.
Notifications were issued under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and IT Rules, 2021, to ensure these platforms are inaccessible. Authorities noted the content involved sexual innuendos and explicit scenes lacking any social message or storyline. Despite warnings issued last September to cease publishing such material, several platforms continued violations, prompting the ban. Notably, some had resumed distributing banned content under new domains after previous blocks in March 2024. Earlier this year, ULLU had voluntarily removed the web series House Arrest following ministry intervention.

Shweta Tiwari reveals her strict parenting rules for daughter Palak: ‘Whichever party you're going to, share contact numbers of all your friends…'
As parents, disciplining kids can be a tricky task. In an attempt to strike the right balance between strict rules and occasional leniency, most adults often end up doubting themselves and their parenting skills. Know that you are not alone. In a recent interview with comedian Bharti Singh, television actor Shweta Tiwari shared her parenting rules for daughter Palak. 'You might be going out, but you are not of age to stay out later than 11pm. If you are going out promising to return by 1 am, you should be at the doorstep by 1 am sharp. You can't say I am leaving the party at 1 o'clock. And whichever party you're going to, share contact numbers of all your friends accompanying you, along with their mothers' numbers. Also, tracking her phone to check her location — if I couldn't reach her, I would go there myself in the next 30 minutes,' shared the Kasautii Zindagi Kay actor. Reflecting on the same, Rima Bhandekar, Psychologist at Mpower, Aditya Birla Education Trust, said, such strict parenting can instill discipline and responsibility, but excessive rigidity may lead to lower self-esteem, heightened anxiety, and difficulty in expressing emotions. On the other hand, a lenient approach fosters independence and confidence, but when extreme, it can lead to impulsiveness, a lack of discipline, and struggles with authority. She believes a well-balanced, supportive parenting approach is the best way ahead. 'Supportive parenting is about asking your child what they want to be, without adding 'you should' right after. This kind of parenting is one of the predictors of a child confidently choosing their career, even if it is far from parental legacy and societal expectations,' she said. Such parents provide the space needed to choose what feels right for the child, such as resources, encouragement, and emotional stability, while giving them the choice to choose their path without judgment of tradition, societal status, prestige, and money. However, this doesn't mean parents do not inform them about real-world concerns about their career choices. Still, they help children analyse their options in a way that communicates trust, respect, and belief in the child's ability to decide after critically evaluating the pros and cons of it. 'By doing so, their children know their self-worth isn't connected tightly to fulfilling someone else's dream; but their own passion, they're better prepared to handle setbacks on their own,' said Bhandekar, adding that they are more likely to stand firm in their choices due to nurturing space provided by parents who value who they are, not just what they achieve. 'They find purpose in their career, not just choose any job available. They develop into adults who work with zeal, not as an obligation to others,' she added. According to Bhandekar, here's what you could do to try to raise a confident, fulfilled child: 'The definition of success is different for everyone; comparison doesn't always help. A contented child is more successful than a stressed one. Your child's future isn't always about living your legacy; it's about creating their own,' Bhandekar said.

Ronit Roy Reveals Why Playing Mihir In Kyunki Reboot 'Didn't Work' For Him: 'Unfortunately…'
Last Updated: Ekta Kapoor's TV saga Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returns with a limited reboot. Ronit Roy, who played Mihir Virani, is happy for the show but said he won't return. Ekta Kapoor's iconic television saga Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which originally premiered in 2000, has officially returned with a limited reboot series. The much-awaited first episode of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 dropped on July 29, 2025. Ronit Roy, who portrayed Mihir Virani from 2000 to 2008, stepping into the role after Amar Upadhyay, recently expressed his joy over the show's comeback after 25 years, and revealed why the show couldn't work out for him. Talking about Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi reboot, Ronit Roy told ETimes, 'I am happy that they decided to bring back Kyunki. Unfortunately, it did not work out for me, but, of course, Kyunki is a show that has been very close to my heart. I did Kyunki for eight years of my life. And I wish the cast and crew of Kyunki, and the makers, the very best. Looking forward to watching it." Ronit Roy also shared his thoughts on returning to a long-running television show. He said, 'So I'm not averse to doing a long show or being on television for a long time. However, as I mentioned, there is still much to be desired on television. 25 years since I began. The world has changed. Some things need to be fixed regarding television. So once that happens, I will likely be back. Till such time, I'm happy where I am." Ronit Roy also reflected on how television has evolved over the years. He admitted he wasn't entirely sure about the current landscape, calling his recent return a brief stint. Comparing it to his earlier days in the industry, he noted that while he began doing mainstream television in 2000 and it's now 2025, there's still a lot of progress to be made, adding that 'there is much to be desired." News18 Showsha in its review for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Reboot, wrote, 'Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor chose to keep the opening scene of her new show exactly the same as the iconic introductions she's known for in her earlier serials. Right from a Ganpathi idol to the dramatic camera angles and even the visual styling — nothing has changed. It's almost as if time stood still as Ekta decided to bring Tulsi back. The daily soap queen, who's often credited with shaping Indian television drama, didn't try to reinvent the wheel here. Instead, she leaned into the familiarity, perhaps intentionally, to evoke a strong sense of nostalgia among viewers." view comments First Published: July 31, 2025, 15:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
