Anvarul Hasan Annu on distancing himself from House Arrest: Artistes must be responsible for the content they promote

Anvarul Hasan Ann Actor-influencer Anvarul Hasan Annu walked out of the reality series House Arrest just days before the contestants were to be finalised. He was first approached on the understanding that the format would resemble Bigg Boss and gave a verbal nod. When the actual brief arrived, he says, the show's tasks were very different from what had been discussed. 'I was told House Arrest would be like Bigg Boss, so I agreed on that premise,' Anvarul explains, and adds, 'But once I read the rules and saw how vulgar and inappropriate some of the tasks were, I backed out immediately. As artistes, we have a responsibility to the audience.' House Arrest, featuring social-media influencers , models and a few TV faces, was hosted by Ajaz Khan . Contestants would have been filmed around the clock completing progressively outrageous dares for cash and social-media clout. The show drew heavy criticism almost as soon as its teaser dropped: viewers and child-protection organisations objected to clips that showed simulated intimacy, suggestive dialogue and dares that many called 'demeaning.' After a flood of complaints, the information & broadcasting ministry issued notices to the platform following which the episodes were removed and the series was banned across major OTT services. Anvarul supports the decision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'This ban isn't just necessary; it's a wake-up call,' he says, adding, 'No amount of money can justify content that disrespects our culture or misleads young viewers. I told the makers that directly. Responsible entertainment has won.' Now, Anvarul is now in talks for several web series and reality projects that align with his values, and is also looking at exploring opportunities in Bollywood.

Mumbai court denies anticipatory bail to actor Ajaz Khan in rape case

A Mumbai court has refused anticipatory bail to actor Ajaz Khan in a rape case. Additional sessions judge (Dindoshi court) Datta Dhoble on Thursday denied relief to Khan, ruling that "considering the nature and gravity of the allegations, there is need for custodial interrogation of the applicant". The prosecution has alleged that the victim, also an actor, was induced into a relationship by Khan. He allegedly misused his position as a celebrity and host of a reality show to gain the victim's confidence, the prosecution said. The FIR alleged that on the false pretext of marriage, promises of financial help and professional advancement, Khan established physical relations with the victim on multiple occasions "without her free and unequivocal consent". Khan has been booked under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections concerning rape and physical relationship obtained through deceitful means. Pressing for anticipatory bail, Khan's advocate submitted that his client has been falsely implicated in the case. "The informant (victim) was well aware that the actor was already married. Both are majors. That the relationship between him and the informant was consensual," he submitted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch Bitcoin và Ethereum - Không cần ví! IC Markets BẮT ĐẦU NGAY Undo The defence placed before court certain WhatsApp chats and audio recordings purportedly showing that the victim demanded money to withdraw the case and that the physical relationship was consensual. The prosecution, on the other hand, contended that Khan's custodial interrogation was necessary for recovery of his mobile phone, verification of WhatsApp chats and call recording. It submitted that the applicant has a prior criminal record and he may tamper with evidence or influence the victim and witnesses if granted anticipatory bail. The court after hearing both the sides noted that the FIR discloses specific dates, locations and circumstances under which the incident occurred, including the assurances allegedly given by the applicant, not just of marriage, but also professional help and financial assistance for the victim's family. "Prima facie, this cannot be brushed aside as a simple case of consensual relationship. The consent appears to be obtained by fraud or under misrepresentation of facts," the court noted. Though the victim is a major but considering allegations it appears that consent is not free and unequivocally within the meaning of law, it said. The court held that Khan's custodial interrogation was necessary for his medical examination and "collection of other digital evidence". "The risk of tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out, if the pre-arrest bail is granted," the court said while rejecting his plea. Earlier, Khan was named in a case along with many others for alleged obscene content in their web show 'House Arrest'. Ajaz Khan Faces Rape Allegations Following FIR by Actress

"What If Such Content Reaches Your Own Children?" Women's Panel To ULLU App

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has pulled up the management of OTT platform ULLU App over the allegedly obscene and degrading portrayal of women in its program House Arrest and warned of possible regulatory action, including a complete ban on the platform. In a strongly worded hearing on Thursday, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar grilled ULLU CEO Avinash Dugar and Head of Operations Priyanka Chaurasia over the content that the Commission said glorifies incest, promotes the objectification of women and borders on soft pornography. "The impact of such programs must not be measured by the rise in followers or monetary profits," Vijaya Rahatkar said. "Ask yourselves' what if such content knocks on the doors of your own homes, reaches your own children?" The NCW took suo moto cognizance of disturbing visuals from House Arrest circulating online, stating that the series reflects a larger trend of misogynistic narratives being camouflaged as entertainment on digital platforms. The Commission during the hearing questioned the ULLU management's admission in public interviews that their content reflects audience demand. The NCW asserted that ULLU by producing and streaming House Arrest as an original show bore full responsibility for its nature and reach. It also flagged the platform's overall content profile as harmful, citing potential psychological harm to young viewers due to repeated exposure to sexually exploitative material. Despite being summoned for the hearing, actor and host of the program Ajaz Khan did not appear. Taking serious note of his absence, the NCW has issued a second notice, which will now be served through police authorities. The Commission has asked ULLU to submit a detailed impact assessment report on the societal implications of its content and outline concrete steps to prevent the proliferation of exploitative material.
