Bafana Bafana eligible player signs with Italian Serie A team
Defender Corrie Ndaba, who qualifies to represent Bafana Bafana through his South African father, has completed a move to Italian Serie A club US Lecce.
Ndaba is a versatile defender who can play both as a centre-back and left-back. He initially joined Kilmarnock on loan from English side Ipswich Town in the summer of 2023 and quickly impressed in the Scottish Premiership with his composure, athleticism, and leadership at the back. His strong performances earned him a permanent deal in July 2024.
Over his time at Rugby Park, he made more than 70 appearances and became a fan favourite for his consistency, professionalism, and commitment. Kilmarnock praised his impact both on and off the pitch, highlighting his strong presence in defence.
Ndaba has previously represented the Republic of Ireland at under-18 and under-21 level but is yet to make a senior international appearance. With his eligibility for South Africa still open, the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos may need to act quickly to persuade the talented defender to commit to the national team before Ireland makes their move.
His transfer to Serie A marks a significant step in his career and adds to the growing list of players with South African roots making waves in top European leagues.

Norris fastest in second Hungarian GP practice, Piastri second
Lando Norris completed a Hungarian Grand Prix practice double on Friday as runaway leaders McLaren dominated both sessions while leaving something in reserve and almost colliding at the end. Norris was top of the time sheets in both sessions at the Hungaroring outside Budapest, with Formula One leader Oscar Piastri second and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc emerging as McLaren's closest rival. The Briton was 0.019 of a second faster than teammate Piastri, who has a 16-point lead after 13 of 24 races, in first practice and 0.291 quicker in the late afternoon when he set a best lap of 1:15.624 seconds. At the end of the session, with the chequered flag already waved, Norris locked up coming out of the pits for a practice start as Piastri, winner in Belgium last weekend, went around the outside at turn one. Norris was on pole at the circuit last year in a race won by Piastri, his first victory in F1. Leclerc was third fastest in both sessions, with Racing Bulls' French rookie Isack Hadjar fourth in the opening one but Aston Martin coming on strong in the second with Lance Stroll fourth and Fernando Alonso fifth. Double world champion Alonso had missed practice one due to back pain, with Brazilian reserve Felipe Drugovich standing in for him. Lewis Hamilton, winner a record eight times in Hungary with McLaren and Mercedes, was fifth and sixth on his return with Ferrari. Mercedes's form looked more encouraging than at the last race in Belgium, with George Russell ending the day seventh, after earlier complaining about his car's balance, and Italian rookie Kimi Antonelli 10th. Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen was ninth and 14th respectively in the sessions, with Japanese teammate Yuki Tsunoda 17th and ninth. 'I don't know what's going on. It's just undriveable, I can't get any balance,' said Verstappen over the team radio at one point in the late afternoon. Verstappen was summoned to the stewards for a bizarre incident in which the four-time world champion threw what appeared to be a rag out of the car's cockpit while on track at turn three. Estonian Paul Aron took Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber for the opening session and was last after having to stop before the midpoint of the session due to a technical problem. Hulkenberg was 12th on his return.

SABC to televise Orlando Pirates MTN8 match
SABC will televise the MTN8 quarter-final match between Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon. The highly anticipated quarter-final fixture takes place at Orlando Stadium at 15:00. Photo: BackpagePix Stellenbosch FC came painfully close to claiming their maiden MTN8 title last season, only to fall 3-1 to Orlando Pirates in what many deemed a controversial final. With the score level at 1-1, the turning point arrived with a late free-kick that Pirates executed from a disputed position, a decision that went unchallenged due to the absence of VAR. Stellenbosch have finished as quarterfinalists, semifinalists, and runners-up in the last three competitions, and now stand poised to take the next step towards championship glory. On Sunday, Stellenbosch take on AmaZulu in an MTN8 quarter-final (starting 15h00). Both teams, having experienced heartache in previous seasons, are desperate to secure their first title in this competition, making for an exciting matchup between two hungry squads. Coach Steve Barker's Stellenbosch squad faces a challenging rebuild this season after losing key players in the transfer window. Stellenbosch are likely to adopt an aggressive playing style that puts them on the front foot, with Ashley Cupido leading the charge. His dynamic attacking skills have made waves during the team's pre-season preparations. The versatile forward will be a critical asset as Stellenbosch gears up to showcase their prowess on the pitch. AmaZulu will be keen to thwart Cupido's ambitions with their captain, Riaan Hanamub, spearheading its tightly-knit defence.
