Varanasi gang rape case: Claims of survivor can't be overruled, says SIT report
Varanasi: The special investigation team (SIT) formed to uncover the truth behind the allegations of a 19-year-old girl, who claimed she was raped by 23 individuals over seven days between March 29 and April 4, submitted its report on Thursday. In the light of the Supreme Court and high court judgments, the report mentioned that the claims made in her statement cannot be denied. "During her disappearance, the presence of several accused individuals was found at different places and times with her. In such serious cases, SC and HCs have issued various important decisions and guidelines, emphasising that the survivor's statement should be given priority. In this context, based on her statement and the facts found during the investigation, it cannot be denied that the accused committed the crime," the SIT said. On April 17, commissioner of police Mohit Agrawal had formed SIT following the submission of a memorandum by the family members, especially women, of the accused persons. The SIT was asked to submit a report within 30 days. Further arrests in the case were stopped until the submission of this SIT report. Taking note of the SIT report, the CP said, "Based on the recorded statements, medical reports, CCTV footage, call detail records, IP logs, and other evidence collected during its investigation, the SIT concluded that the possibility of the incident occurring cannot be ruled out. The investigator of the case has been asked to incorporate all points mentioned in the SIT report and conclude his investigation impartially and promptly. " The mother of the survivor reported to Lalpur Pandeypur police station on April 4 that her daughter left home on March 29 but did not return. After lodging the case, the police started searching for her and, after finding her at a friend's house, they asked her to return home. Initially, she refused to return home, but after much persuasion, she was handed over to her family. On the night of April 6, her mother lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that upon returning home, her daughter revealed that during the period of disappearance, different individuals committed wrongful acts against her at different places. After lodging the FIR, Lalpur Pandeypur police arrested a total of 14 individuals, including nine named accused on April 8, three on April 11, and two more on April 15. The survivor was taken for a medical examination to PDDU district hospital, where she initially refused external and internal medical examinations. After the police explained the legal aspects, she agreed to undergo a medical examination. During the investigation by the SIT, the CDR of various individuals' mobile numbers, witness statements, CCTV footage, the victim's Instagram IP logs, the survivor's statement, and statements of the accused and their relatives were collected, and all evidence was examined. The investigation revealed that during the period of disappearance, the victim was found to be moving freely and was seen with some of the accused. During this time, she was seen going to the mall and Chausatti Ghat with her colleagues and some friends. During the incident, the victim borrowed mobile phones from about 11 different individuals to log into Instagram and also made several calls. When asked why she didn't go home or inform anyone about the incident, she said she was afraid to go home and didn't tell anyone about the incident due to fear and shame.

No visitor pass, sr citizen fakes ticket to enter airport
1 2 3 Kolkata: In absence of visitor passes at Kolkata airport, which have been suspended since Covid, an elderly man was apprehended at airport after the staff found that he entered the terminal using a fake air ticket to bid farewell to his son and daughter-in-law, who were leaving for Bangkok. The accused, a resident of Madurdaha off Bypass, admitted that his son helped him make the fake ticket for an IndiGo flight to Bangkok with a fake PNR, with which he entered the terminal, fooling the CISF personnel at the entrance gate along a non-DigiYatra gate. He bid farewell to the couple and was apprehended when he tried to leave the airport premises through a departure gate around 6 pm. As per rule, one cannot exit the terminal from departure gate. The CISF personnel took the elderly man to the IndiGo international counter. On verification, staff found inconsistencies in his ticket and alerted airport authorities, who in turn called cops. However, the cops haven't arrested the man. "The elderly man claimed the idea of using a fake ticket was suggested by a friend a year ago. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo He said it was his son who made the fake ticket. We are probing further to determine the extent of the offence and the role of his son in readying the forged document," said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police. Suspension of visitor entry passes at airport has significantly inconvenienced travellers and their families. According to travellers, having family members present during flight delays or sudden changes offers not only mental support but also helps in spending time at airport more comfortably. Airport management stated that restriction on visitor passes was implemented following directives from BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security), which oversees airport security nationwide. Officials said the decision that was initially enforced after the pandemic for security reasons has now become permanent. According to airport sources, approximately 1,000 visitor passes were issued daily, generating around Rs 60,000 in revenue each day. This not only led to income for the airport but also offered significant convenience to travellers. An official said that during festivals, Independence Day, Republic Day, and similar occasions when a red alert was sounded for security reasons, the visitor pass service was temporarily halted. It has now been completely discontinued, causing inconvenience to public. Serious allegations of bias have emerged as some travellers claim that while ordinary individuals are denied visitor entry, netas and their supporters are readily granted access. A traveller said, "We have noticed that some special individuals still receive visitor passes. If security is the reason, then why not have the same rule for everyone?"

‘Ban Him For Life': Man Accused Of Stealing Life Jacket On IndiGo Flight
Last Updated: A video circulating on social media has sparked safety concerns after a man was caught trying to steal a life jacket from an IndiGo flight. A video has gone viral on social media showing a man allegedly stealing a life jacket from an IndiGo flight, raising serious concerns about passenger safety. In the video, another passenger catches the man off guard and asks him to open his bag. When the bag is opened, a safety vest is found inside. The clip clearly shows the man being confronted by the passenger, who says, 'This is not right, I am watching you since a long time, life jackets are for our safety, and you are putting it in your bag." The video was posted on Instagram and has already crossed 2.4 million views. It has sparked a strong reaction online, with many people expressing anger over the shocking act. Take a look at the video here: Social media users have shared mixed opinions. Some have demanded strict action against the man, including a ban from flying. A user commented, 'Why would you steal a life jacket? Air travel has become so cheap, people with zero civic sense are now flying." Another wrote, 'Pls ban him from flying. This is risking passengers' life in an emergency situation." Someone else joked, 'Wearing LACOSTE but couldn't resist the life jacket." However, a few people tried to understand the man's perspective. A user said, 'He might have thought it's free stuff that comes with the flight charges. It's okay to help him understand without embarrassing him and calling it a robbery. Or simply report it to flight attendants or staff." To this, another replied, 'Nonsense. When you start defending daylight robbery." As of now, IndiGo has not made any official comment on the matter. There has also been no confirmation from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The identity of the man and details of the flight are yet to be verified. First Published:
