A couple renovating their home thought nothing else could shock them—until they walked into their kitchen and discovered an unexpected visitor: a fox, perched calmly on the worktop.
Christy Hamilton, who shares her home transformation journey under the Instagram handle @casa.blanca_____, has been documenting her extensive refurbishment online. A recent video showing the fox peeking from its perch toward Hamilton racked up more than 328,000 likes and over 6.4 million views.
"POV [point of view]: You reach the stage of the renovation where you think nothing can surprise you anymore … but then … You find a fox on your kitchen counter," read the text overlay on the video, which captured the wild animal looking entirely at home.
"This house is full of surprises! Perfect timing for a new pet, don't you think! What should we do?" Hamilton captioned the clip.

The property, an 1870s Victorian terrace full of character and original features, has proven to be as unpredictable as it is charming. The couple purchased the home via an auction site and have taken on the entire project themselves, documenting the highs and lows along the way. From damp, moldy walls and persistent leaks to having no running water or electricity, the challenges have been significant—but so have the milestones.
This particular surprise, however, was one of the more delightful.
So far, the couple have spent approximately £10,119 (around $12,800) over six months. Their expenses include:
Building materials including steel beams and pipework for heating and water — £3,273 ($4,130)
105 square meters (1,139 square feet) of solid wood parquet flooring — £135 ($170)
Mineral wool insulation slabs — £969 ($1,223)
Building consumables (nails, screws, blades, etc.) — £708 ($894)
Tools — £532 ($671)
Temporary furniture — £837 ($1,056)
Miscellaneous construction items — £2,248 ($2,834)
The RSPCA said that finding a fox indoors isn't common, but it can happen if doors are left open during construction or if the animal is particularly bold.
The charity advises remaining calm, giving the animal a clear exit route, and gently encouraging it to leave by making noise or slowly walking it toward an open door. If it doesn't leave or appears injured, professional wildlife rescue should be contacted.
Instagram users were both amused and delighted by the surprise.
"He has definitely been visiting for a while with that look," posted one user.
"I heard you were looking for a new barista?" added another.
"The look on the fox's face," commented Kirstine.
"Ooh a fox distribution club, I am here for it," one comment read.
"Well I was not expecting that. I'd definitely keep him," one viewer wrote.
"Haha his little face! 'Umm what are you doing in my house?'" added another.
"As soon as I would have turned the corner, I might have fainted. The house is his now," said Paula.

Are Olandria And Nic Leaving ‘Love Island'? The Shocking Casa Amor Twist, Explained
Olandria and Nic on "Love Island USA" Season 7 Casa Amor is officially underway on Love Island USA Season 7, but for the first time ever, two Islanders were dumped from both Casa Amor and the main villa after failing to forge connections with the new bombshells. However, the final moments of the episode hinted that the eliminated contestants might be staying in Fiji after all. The dating show's anticipated twist, Casa Amor, kicked off on Monday, June 23. The multi-day challenge temporarily splits up the girls and boys and threatens their existing relationships with a group of new bombshells. Unlike last year, the girls were sent to Casa Amor in 2025, while the guys remained in the main villa. This year's Casa Amor, however, is unlike any previous installment in the franchise. Host Ariana Madix teased one the June 21 episode of Love Island USA: Aftersun that there would be "more twists and turns to Casa than ever before" — and she definitely wasn't lying. While explaining the rules in Episode 19, Madix announced that both the men and women would be single and in new couples for the duration of Casa Amor. In previous seasons, only the bombshells who coupled up would return to the main villa, but this year, everyone is coming back to the villa. With six boys and six girls in the villa, only five male and five female bombshells were introduced, meaning two Islanders were left single and at risk after the first coupling. Heading into Episode 20, that was Amaya and TJ. They had 24 hours to find a new connection or risk being dumped from the villa. Just one day into Casa, another recoupling went down, and a text revealed that any Islander not chosen to be in a couple would be saying goodbye. Harsh? Absolutely. The news was shocking, primarily because it deviated from the usual purpose of Casa Amor. Casa Amor is meant to challenge and strengthen existing connections, not punish Islanders for not exploring enough. The twist left many fans questioning the producers' decisions, and Episode 20 ended with an intense, emotional recoupling ceremony in both Casa Amor and the main villa. More Getty Images) The Casa Amor recoupling ceremony began with Amaya, the only single Islander, who was told to stand in front of the group. If a bombshell wanted to couple up with Amaya, they were asked to step forward. Ultimately, Zak stood up. Because he was initially coupled with Olandria when he first arrived at Casa Amor, this left Olandria single and vulnerable. After the remaining bombshells did not step forward to couple with Olandria, the group received a text announcing that Olandria was dumped from the island. The fact that everyone was extremely upset was an understatement. Not only was Olandria one of the original Islanders from Season 7, but she had also forged strong friendships with the other girls and maintained one of the strongest connections in the villa with Taylor, who had no idea she had just been 'sent home.' 'I did not want to say goodbye here, and I feel like this time I was actually getting it right,' Olandria said in her confessional before leaving Casa Amor. More Nunneley/Peacock via Getty Images) Next up was the boys' elimination. TJ stepped to the front of the firepit, and the girl bombshells were asked to stand if they wanted to couple up with him. Vanna stood, and because she had been coupled with Ace, he was now single and vulnerable. The process then repeated itself twice more: Coco stood up to couple with Ace, which left Taylor vulnerable. Shortly after, Clarke rose for Taylor, ultimately leaving Nic single. When none of the bombshells stood up to couple with Nic, the O.G. Islander was asked to pack his bags and leave the villa. Before leaving Casa Amor, Nic had been coupled with Cierra, and they were in a really good place heading into the twist. Are Olandria And Nic Actually Leaving Love Island USA? LOVE ISLAND USA — Episode 708 — Pictured: (l-r) Olandria Carthen, Nicolas "Nic" Vansteenberghe — ... More (Photo by: Ben Symons/Peacock via Getty Images) In the final moments of Love Island USA Season 7, Episode 20, a black SUV pulls up outside the main villa, where Nic is wheeling his suitcase. The door opens, and it's Olandria, shouting at him to get in. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, and social media exploded with fan theories about where Olandria and Nic were headed. This could be part of what Madix meant with her "major twist" comment and when she mentioned that "everyone" would be coming back to the villa after Casa Amor concludes. It's also worth pointing out that the texts Olandria and Nic received only stated that the Islanders were being "dumped from the villa," not the entire island. So, what could this all possibly mean? For one, there's a strong chance that Olandria and Nic could be swapping villas to challenge Cierra and Taylor's connections. Another theory suggests that Olandria and Nic are being held in a separate area until the end of Casa Amor. They could then be revealed during the next recoupling, forcing Taylor and Cierra to choose between them and their Casa partners. A different theory floating around is that Olandria and Nic could be exploring a connection with each other, as #Niclandria shippers have been vocal on social media about wanting the original Islanders to end up together. Some even hoped the two were being sent to the risqué hideaway. Love Island USA does not air on Wednesdays, meaning viewers will have to wait until Thursday's episode to discover what happens next. Season 7, Episode 21, drops on Peacock at 9 p.m. ET.

Woman Opens Second-Grade 'Time Capsule' After 25 Years—in Shock at Contents
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A mom of two was left shocked at the contents of a time capsule she buried in the second grade some 25 years ago. Carrie Grigery, from Ashland, Missouri, decided to do something a little different on the eve of her 33rd birthday by opening the time capsule she first sealed up all those years ago in Miss Taylor's class at Terrace Elementary School in Richardson, Texas. "I usually get the birthday blues for whatever reason, so I thought this would give me something to brighten my day and make it exciting," Grigery told Newsweek. Despite being the one who filled the capsule all those years ago, Grigery was completely unprepared for what she found inside. Nostalgia can be a powerful emotion. In fact, one 2014 study published in the Journal of Consumer Research concluded consumers were more likely to spend on products that evoked feelings of nostalgia. Grigery has always had a complex relationship with the past, and opening up her time capsule after holding onto it for so long felt strangely significant to her. "Nostalgia always brings up weird feelings to me," she said. "I'm definitely a deep feeling person so it made me feel physically sick because the moment felt so big and heavy. It was 25 years in the making, and I didn't want to mess up something that I was excited about." Nothing could prepare her for what was inside, although that was largely down to the fact she couldn't actually remember what was inside. "I didn't remember anything at all," Grigery said. "My memory is horrible." That led to some pretty major surprises when it came time to open it. "The biggest surprise was my drawing I made of me holding a baby. I have no recollection of ever yearning to be a mom," Grigery said. Though she is a proud mom of an 8-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, Grigery's desire to have kids was one that developed with age. "I even had a fear of pregnancy, so in college, I'd always say I never wanted kids," she said. Even so, one of the real highlights of the entire process was looking through everything with her kids. "Definitely smiled the most at my drawing and handwriting. Specifically having a second grader and seeing how much better I am at drawing and writing than he was. It was fun to pick on him about that," Grigery said. "Also, the family pictures were fun to look at with my kids because they didn't recognize their grandparents or aunts." Grigery didn't just share the contents with her family either. In a video posted to her TikTok, @carriegrigery, she showed viewers what was inside. It proved popular with over 1.2 million views and counting. In among the newspapers, drawings and journal entries, Grigery found something that was tinged with sadness. "I felt sad just reading how kind the message from my second-grade teacher was and never having contact with her again since 2000," she said. "I've never been able to find her on socials. I would just love for her to know I kept the time capsule and appreciate it so much." If one good thing were to come out of this entire experience for Grigery, she would love it to be that she finds a way to reconnect with Connie Taylor, her old teacher at Terrace Elementary. Her message would be a simple, but heartfelt one.

Dog Jumps in Water, What Cat 'Needy' Sibling Does Next Melts Hearts
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A bonded pair of animal siblings have gained viral attention for their lake-side display of loyalty, after a cat's unexpected leap into the water to follow a dog delighted viewers on TikTok. Shared by the duo's owner under @mooseandpeach, the June 23 video shows the cat and dog both wearing pet life jackets on a paddleboard in a calm, scenic lake. As soon as the dog jumped into the water, the cat followed—highlighting a comically inseparable bond that has captured the hearts of millions on TikTok. The clip has been viewed more than 3.6 million times and liked by over 578,000 users to date. "My cat refuses to be separated from my dog," read the on-screen text, while the caption below added a famous quote from the romantic drama The Notebook: "If you're a bird, I'm a bird." Viewers were able to see the dog leaping confidently into the water, tail wagging as it paddled away from the board. What shocked viewers, however, was the cat's instinct to immediately follow, launching itself after the dog without hesitation. While cats are often portrayed as aloof or independent, this video offered a glimpse of a different side—one that values companionship so deeply it defies feline stereotypes. The reaction online has been swift and affectionate, with some commenters sharing their own stories of pets with unbreakable bonds while others simply poked fun at the lighthearted viral moment. "May this kind of loyalty find me one day," one viewer said. "Life is so weird sometimes," another added. "A cat swimming…Because it's needy…for a dog." Another asked: "Did the dog teach him how to swim?" "He's like I trust four legs more than two in the wild," a different viewer shared. "Or he's seen Homeward Bound and believes in his team mate." "Never seen a cat willingly jump into the water," another said, while another added: "They are definitely partners in crime." "You guys got it wrong that's an orange cat he wanted to let the dog know I can still get you if I want," another viewer said. "This is literally so cute I can't stand it," another commented.
