India hands over vaccine against Sickle Cell and Thalassemia to Nepal
Kathmandu [Nepal], April 25 (ANI): In a significant demonstration of its ongoing commitment to supporting the health and well-being of the people of Nepal, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava handed over the first consignment of vaccines for Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia to Minister of Health and Population, of Nepal, Pradip Paudel.
'The first consignment of vaccines/ medicines includes Influenzae Vaccine (3100 unit), Salmonella Vaccine (1550 unit), Meningococcus Vaccine (3100 unit), Haemophilus Influenza Vaccine (4640 unit) and Streptococcus Pneumonia Vaccine (4640 unit),' the release detailed.
This vital contribution from India will help bolster Nepal's efforts in addressing these inherited blood disorders, which pose significant health challenges to affected individuals and families.
'The provision of these vaccines underscores the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations, particularly in the crucial healthcare sector,' the embassy highlighted.
Speaking at the handover event, the Indian Ambassador noted that these vaccines would be instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia in Nepal.
He further mentioned the deep-rooted friendship between India and Nepal and India's readiness to extend support in areas of mutual interest.

Shimla: Three test positive for scrub typhus at IGMC
Agency: Last Updated: August 11, 2025, 22:45 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 11 (ANI): Out of four suspected cases of scrub typhus tested at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) on Monday, three have returned positive, hospital authorities Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC, said in a brief press note issued to the media.'Today, four samples were tested for scrub typhus at our laboratory, and three have tested positive. Patients are under treatment and being closely monitored. We are taking all necessary precautions to prevent complications," he typhus, caused by the bite of infected chiggers (larval mites), is a seasonal vector-borne disease that often spikes during the monsoon months in Himachal Pradesh. Doctors have urged residents to remain alert, wear protective clothing, and seek immediate medical attention in case of high fever, chills, or unexplained to health experts, early detection and timely treatment can prevent serious complications such as respiratory distress or organ failure. IGMC has also issued an advisory for high-risk rural and hilly areas, asking people to avoid overgrown bushes and maintain hygiene around high-intensity fever is caused by the mites in the shrubs, which transmit the bacterial infection (Orientia tsutsugamushi). This fever caused many deaths of US army troops in the Southeast Asian region of Burma and Ceylon. This also caused many deaths in Europe during the 2nd World War.
