Rangers fanatic riles Celtic punters on Hotline as diehard told hollow derby boast proves wee team mentality
The season has yet to get started in Scotland but already Rangers and Celtic fans are already at each others throats.
Brendan Rodgers' men eased to the Premiership title last term but it is a new era at Ibrox with the 49ers in position and Russell Martin now in the dugout.
There is some renewed optimism on the Blue side of Glasgow but Hotline caller Donald Dundas has found himself in the firing line over his comments, where he highlighted the fact Rangers had taken seven points from Old Firm derby games last season in response to a Celtic fan branding Rangers a failing minor soccer club
Sean McGarvey, Cumbernauld said: "Deary, deary me. It seems mediocrity has truly set in the Rangers supporters' mindset if Donald Dundas is a sample. Seven points?
"That's cute. Try 92 points, Donald, the only number that matters. Still, at least you have won a couple after you sacked your manager for being garbage and we were on cruise control. Round of applause."
Glen Mitchell emailed: "In response to David Dundas' reference on his failing minor soccer club. That's what your current club now is.
"Winning games with little importance is the key indicator, you need to win when its meaningful, otherwise you are no better than any of our other SPFL rivals, who can beat us now and again.
"Check the trophy cabinet next time first, if you know what that actually is. It's all about winning trophies, not the odd bragging right."
Pre-season is still to get underway at Rangers, but Martin now knows who he will face in his first competitive fixture as boss after being paired with Panathinaikos in the Champions League second qualifying round.
The Greek giants were one of three on offer to the Light Blues with SK Brann and Servette the others they could have faced.
Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "Although Rangers have punched above their weight in Europe, I have noticed that when a European draw is made, Rangers always get the hardest possible draw.
"Look at the Champions League group they were in when they last featured and last season with the Europa League draw, where many of the teams they faced had a better coefficient than that of which Celtic faced in the Champions League. I'm not in any way trying to mock Celtic there.
"Rangers could have faced any of only three clubs for some reason, and lo and behold, the team with the best coefficient out of the three is who Rangers face.
"Why is it when any smaller nation gets a team progressing up the coefficient, are the formats changed?, I shouldn't have said why as the answer is quite simple. The biased system ensuring the bigger nations always get guaranteed coefficient points as it makes UEFA more money."
Nico Raskin has been in the headlines recently with Kyle Lafferty telling the Ibrox club they need to build the new era team around the Belgian.
He's also earned rave reviews on the international stage from his Belgium boss, but being billed a 'mainstay' in the Red Devils' side has irked one caller.
Cameron Hall, Edinburgh said: "Saying Nico Raskin has established himself as a 'mainstay' of the Belgium national side is like saying George Hirst has established himself as a mainstay of the Scotland team.
"Raskin has played for Belgium four times, two of which were as a late sub. If Raskin is a mainstay then what is Kevin De Bruyne?"
Lennon Miller is another who is dominating conversations, and he is likely to make a mega-money move from Motherwell this summer.
He's now a full international with Scotland and has clubs from England, Italy and Germany chasing his signature. Celtic and Rangers have both regularly been told to make a move by ex-pros and pundits alike for the talented teen.
Ross McCormack branded him 'perfect' for Brendan Rodgers' side but revealed the reason why he wouldn't make the move to Parkhead and it seems his theory is also shared on the Hotline.
Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton said: "I don't have any doubt that Lennon Miller could be as successful as former players Tom Boyd Scott McDonald and Phil O'Donnell but I believe the deciding factor remains that if Reo Hatate leaves which means Miller would play on a regular basis. Miller is too huge a talent to sit on the bench and Brendan Rodgers won't pay top dollar for him to do just that"
The Club World Cup is underway and Bayern's 10-0 hammering of Auckland City has gone global.
Hotline regular Gary Stevenson questioned the standard on show if the outfit from New Zealand are getting to compete and touted the likes of Slovan Bratislava and Dinamo Zagreb for the next edition of the tournament.
But that went down like a lead balloon with one caller touting QUEEN'S PARK.

Gloucester have spent 'wisely'
Gloucester have spent their money "wisely" this season, believes director of rugby George Cherry and Whites released 13 senior players this summer, with 13 new faces signed heading into the 2025-26 narrowly missed out on a place in the Premiership play-offs last season, finishing fifth in the table, just two points behind Bristol despite winning the same number of matches."The way we've recruited for next season is we've got a bigger squad, we've got an unbelievable amount of talent," Skivington told BBC Radio Gloucestershire."We're a more talented squad next year, there's a few [new players] we're hedging our bets on - some are going to come through, some aren't. "They haven't all got the experience of 200 caps in the Premiership but we've spent our money really wisely and for Gloucester that is really important. The model is different." Making Gloucester a sustainable club has been the aim of the owners for a number of years since the Covid-19 the 10 Premiership clubs, Gloucester were the closest to breaking even when the most recent set of accounts was released for 2022-23, although their debt still totalled £541,000 that players including full-back Santiago Carreras, centre Chris Harris and back-row Ruan Ackermann, who amassed more than 400 club appearances between them, are among those exiting Gloucester have increased their squad size from 35 to 40 for next signings blend youth and experience and include Ireland fly-half Ross Byrne, South African back row James Venter and New Zealand prop Nepo Laulala plus full-back Ben Redshaw, scrum-half Mike Austin and centre Will said it would have cost a "huge amount of money" to keep some of the players who have left and that the club is working towards more strength in depth. "We lost a couple of lads in key positions this season and we had to really anchor down, push people in and there were some really costly games for us," he said."I think we've spent our money smartly over the next couple of years." Gloucester have not finished in the Premiership play-offs since Skivington was appointed in 2020, but he believes they took a "massive step forward" last term after finishing ninth in the table the previous signing of scrum-half Tomos Williams proved to be a masterstroke, with the Welshman helping spearhead a new-look attacking style, and going on to win Premiership player of the Seb Atkinson, fly-half Charlie Atkinson and second row Arthur Clark have also all been called up to Steve Borthwick's England training squad this week, before their match against France."Tommy was outstanding and got all of the headlines but if you look at Arthur Clark, Freddie Thomas, the spine of our team was young Gloucester boys," Skivington said."Everything is done with purpose and I think we've got a really young, hungry squad with some really good senior players sitting in there which will drive the squad forward. Everyone, bar one or two, is on two or three-year deals."

Chelsea's Mamadou Sarr compares himself to Liverpool star after £12m transfer
Chelsea have been busy in the summer transfer window and Mamadou Sarr is one of five players who have arrived already. The centre-back has boldly claimed he wants to become a "leader" like Virgil van Dijk Chelsea new boy Mamadou Sarr likes Virgil van Dijk but says he is more like Ibrahima Konate. The 19-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer with a big reputation after a year learning under Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg. The France youth international has taken plenty of lessons from up-and-coming boss Rosenior who is in charge of one of Chelsea 's family of clubs. But Sarr says he has also watched plenty of Liverpool defenders Van Dijk and Konate to learn from them as he looks to adapt to English football. Sarr said: 'I want to be like Virgil van Dijk. I love Van Dijk. But some people tell me I play like Ibrahima Konate. It's similar. Van Dijk is a leader. For a defender, it's important to be a leader. Off and on the pitch, I talk a lot. It's an important job. 'I anticipate well. With the ball, I can pick a good pass. But I've come here to progress. When I was young, I had a dream to be the best centre back in the world.' Sarr has joined for £12m and has represented France at a raft of youth levels and is already being tipped to become a full international in the future. The 6ft 4in defender is bright, enthusiastic and excited about his opportunity in the Premier League. He learned of Chelsea's interest midway through last season and admits it was impossible to turn down the chance to play in England. 'I knew of some interest approximately in November, December,' said Sarr. 'Then in January I had an idea that it was possible. When one of the biggest clubs comes to you, it is so exciting.' Former Derby and Hull boss Rosenior, the ex-Brighton and Fulham defender, is gaining a huge reputation after his impressive work at Strasbourg. Rosenior says Sarr is a player with the 'physique and characteristics' to reach the top. Rosenior also won over Sarr with his calm approach, coaching style and desire to improve young players. Sarr said: 'When I was a kid, I had a dream and I trusted Liam Rosenior and he trusted me. He's a top coach. He believed in me. He taught me a lot about how I can defend better, how I can help the team better. 'It's important to me to train well, to speak with the coach, to speak with every player, and to be confident in what I do. It's good for me to have competition. That will help me to be a better defender.' Sarr wants to help Chelsea win the Club World Cup after the opened with a win over Los Angeles and now play Flamengo on Friday. Paris Saint Germain are probably the tournament favourites but Sarr believes Chelsea can compete with the newly-crowned European champions. He added: 'I played PSG twice last year. They are a very good team. Chelsea is a very good team. They are like PSG. We can compete with them. There are a lot of similarities in the game and Chelsea can beat PSG."

Jose Mourinho ‘holds meeting with Heung-Min Son' as Tottenham name price for club captain
The Spurs skipper looks set to depart North London this summer JOSE'S FAVOURITE SON Jose Mourinho 'holds meeting with Heung-Min Son' as Tottenham name price for club captain HEUNG-MIN SON is being lined up for a blockbuster move by Turkish giants Fenerbahce. After a mostly dismal campaign, the Tottenham captain, 32, could bid farewell to the club after 10 years, with only one year left on his contract, though Spurs will not be letting him go cheaply. Advertisement 1 Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Heung-Min Son at Fenerbahce, according to reports Credit: EPA According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, he could be set to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho. A face-to-face meeting between player and manager to discuss a potential move is said to have taken place, with the pair believed to have maintained a strong relationship, though the Istanbul club may need to part with at least £25million to get their man. SunSport understands that the player is open to a move, with the historic Europa League triumph viewed as a perfect way to depart on a positive note. The duo linked up for eighteen months at Spurs, where Son enjoyed great success, bagging 22 league goals in 51 appearances under Mourinho, even scooping the Puskas Award during his tenure. Mourinho's club are keen to make a splash in the market, and were recently been linked to Man City outcast Kyle Walker. But as exclusively reported by SunSport, it appears the England right-back is instead heading to Merseyside to work under David Moyes at Everton. Fenerbahce have though already agreed the £10m permanent transfer of former Manchester United flop Sofyan Amrabat for the start of the window. However, any move for Heung-Min Son may have to wait. Daniel Levy reveals he wants Tottenham to win Champions League AND Premier League under 'super' Thomas Frank Spurs are desperate to hang on to Son for their lucrative pre-season trip to Asia to honour agreements with tour organisers, due to the star's huge continental presence and significant commercial value he brings to the club. Advertisement If Son were to depart prior to this, a breach of contract with organisers could leave the possibility of a sizeable financial penalty being slapped upon the North London outfit, meaning a swift resolution over the player's future is improbable. It is also understood that the player is the subject of interest from three Saudi Pro League clubs. Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Qadsiah are all looking to swoop for the South Korean star, with a potential transfer saga now firmly on the cards. This could hurt Fenerbahce 's hopes of getting a deal over the line.
