I tested six dupes of The Row's £1,060 fisherman sandals all for under £50 – best was versatile £32 pair
Fisherman-style sandals have climbed the fashion ranks after luxe label The Row put out a £1,060 pair.
Now the budget-friendly versions are here.
But finding ones that don't leave you with sweaty toes or painful blisters is no mean feat. So fashion assistant Emily Regan has done the sole-searching for you.
She tested six pairs under £50, spending a day in each and rating them out of ten . . .
Cow-print sandals, £49.50, Marks & Spencer
I WOULD usually pass on cow-print, but I was really surprised at how well this pair elevated my outfits.
In terms of fit, they were not the most comfortable initially. I'd recommend sizing up to give your toes some extra room. Mine felt a bit sweaty and it was a struggle to get them on.
Despite the small heel, the soles also feel quite flat and smooth, so I felt myself lose grip on carpet at some points.
They fared better on the concrete outside.
The print on the strap also left a black mark on my heel. It washed off in the shower so it was a minor issue, but it's definitely another reason to consider sizing up.
Although they took a little while to break in, they didn't rip up my feet and I got probably the most compliments I've ever had for a pair of shoes. I'll be keeping them.
7/10
Black woven sandals, £12, Primark
I REMEMBER when Primark sandals would be £6, so even though these are the cheapest of the bunch, the £12 price tag felt a bit steep, especially considering the quality.
These were the least comfortable pair I tried. The textured straps look nice but they rubbed against the inside of my feet, leaving me with red scratches.
Plus, the sandals made my feet hot and sweaty.
Initially I was hopeful as the soles look padded and supportive, but it felt as though they were just filled with air. Every time I stepped, there was an awkward puffing sound, which got annoying quite quickly.
On top of that, the fastening buckle was quite fiddly.
All things considered, I wouldn't recommend this pair. Even at just £12 they didn't quite offer what I'd expect from a simple summer sandal.
2/10
Brown suede cage sandals, were £38, now £17, River Island
I REALLY wanted to love this pair from River Island as the brand has an amazing collection of stylish footwear — and some of my most comfortable heels are from it.
The sleek design looks super high-end and much more expensive than the £38 price tag.
However, they just didn't seem to suit the shape of my feet. They probably would have been better in a 'wide fit' option but that isn't available in this style.
They were not easy to get on and although they did feel reasonably comfortable for the first few hours, I could tell they were not going to be an all-day shoe.
On the plus side, the suede was breathable and didn't cause my feet to sweat or overheat.
Over the day, the strap at the back kept falling down, which became frustrating. I tightened it multiple times but it still kept slipping, which was a deal-breaker.
3/10
Beige sandals, were £20, now £10, Tu at Sainsbury's
I'M always on the lookout for a good supermarket bargain — and this pair of sandals from Tu at Sainsbury's left me impressed.
They were super easy to get on and off, with no fiddly fastenings and zero breaking-in period.
I think the key here was the wider straps. Not only were they secure, but the cutouts made a real difference in breathability, keeping my feet cool all day, even in hot weather.
The footbed is lightly cushioned but not too thick so I wasn't tripping over myself.
My only small piece of criticism would be that by the end of the day, I did notice a few minor scuff marks.
It's bound to happen with suede materials so I'd recommend giving them a spray of protector before wearing them outside for the first time.
But it will be worth the effort.
8/10
Tan faux leather sandals, £19.99, Deichmann
MY first impression of these wasn't great.
The buckle strap was quite short so getting them on was an effort.
And the open-front design seemed a little strange — they just hang open above the toes, which felt unsupportive to walk in initially.
That being said, after a bit of adjusting to get the straps to sit in the right place across my feet, they actually turned out to be much more comfortable than I had expected.
They fit true to size and didn't leave any marks or blisters, even after a whole day of wear.
The sole felt sturdy, too, which was a big plus.
My only concern with these is the open front. It feels like it would be easy to stub a toe.
But overall, although the design is a little different, they are a comfortable option.
6/10
Black sandals, £32.99, New Look
WHEN it comes to high-street footwear New Look nails it, as far as I'm concerned.
The brand offers stylish options that don't break the bank and the quality is good for the price points.
If you are looking for a chunkier style or a pair that's reminiscent of The Row's — minus the designer price tag — then these are well worth checking out.
I'm just 5ft tall so if you're petite like me and always looking for sandals that add a bit of height — this pair does that without compromising comfort.
They strike the perfect balance. The heel is high enough to give you a bit of a lift, but chunky enough to provide support, too.
I wore these for a full day without gaining a single blister, which is rare for me.
The padding in the footbed made them feel light and bouncy to walk in and they were comfortable enough for full day wear.

Newly-engaged Emily Atack enjoys romantic getaway with fiancé Alistair Garner as the pair share a kiss while soaking up the sun in France
Newly engaged Emily Atack and her fiancé Alistair Garber have been enjoying a romantic getaway at the Midi-Pyrenees in France. And the actress, 35, who announced the hunk had popped the question on Friday, seems to be staying on cloud nine as she and Alistair continued to share a slew of snaps of their recent days away. In one image The Rivals star could be seen in fits of giggles as she sat next to her man, as the two shared a drink. Emily looked gorgeous in a denim dress, which she styled with a red patterned bandana that she wore in her hair. She accessorised with some funky bracelets and oversized sunglasses. In another snap, the actress was unable to wipe the smile off her face, as she beamed for the camera next to a pal, whilst flashing the diamond on her wedding finger. Emily looked relaxed as she went makeup free and showed off her sun kissed skin and wore her hair in a salty wet look, presumably from the pool. The couple, who welcomed son Barney in June 2024, looked happier than ever as a video on the carousel, showed the two of them blissfully unaware that anybody was watching and planting a huge kiss on each others lips. Emily who seemed to be laying the table, became distracted by the shirtless Alistair when the hunk planted a smooch on her. Another image showed the mum-of-one donning a white mini dress and brown sandals, looking ecstatic as she danced around the garden, her arms up in the air. In a final stunning shot, Emily opted for a floral maxi dress and wore a huge straw woven tote bag over her shoulder. She pinned her blonde locks into a low ponytail and looked out onto the stunning green landscape. Loving every moment of her rustic getaway, Emily gushed: 'I love you, I'm glad I exist' followed by a peach emoji. The actress has known Alistair for almost three decades as her mother is the sister of Alistair's stepmother Jane Garner. They were introduced after Emily's aunt started dating Alistair's father Stephen Garner in the early nighties before they got married in 1994. Writing in her 2019 autobiography Are We There Yet?, Emily gave clues as to why she's ended up in a relationship with Alistair, 38, because her cousins 'understand each other on a deep level.' She says: 'Cousins are the best invention since the Game Boy. They are basically 50 per cent sibling, 50 per cent mate. You look the same but different... 'You understand each other on a deep, deep, level and you have a smidgen more social etiquette towards them than your brother or sister... 'It makes me sad for my friends who don't have that relationship with their cousins, because mine were the best friends I ever had. They are still my best friends to this day.' Emily rarely comments on her private life but has now admitted that she feels as if she has 'won the lottery' with the little one, and added that she couldn't have gone through the 'difficult labour' with anyone but her partner. She told HELLO! magazine last year: 'I couldn't ask for a better partner and Al is the only person on this earth that I could have done this with. 'It was a very difficult birth and after 12 hours of labour I ended up having an emergency caesarean, but he was so calm.' Emily also described Alistair as her 'literal rock' and can not picture her life with anyone else. She added: 'All the cliches of life become true when you fall in love and have a baby. He's my rock, but he really, literally, is my rock; I couldn't do life with anyone else but him.' She explained that they had hoped to have a family of their own after a year of dating and discovered her pregnancy in November 2023 when she realised she had missed a period. She told The Times: '[Alistair] joked, "Let's buy a pregnancy test then" We did and I was pregnant. 'It was the happiest, most perfect day of my life. Not long afterwards, he packed all his stuff in a van in Manchester where he lived and arrived at my house.' The actress explained that shortly after this, they bought a house together and Barney conveniently arrived the day after they finished unpacking. Emily has a large number of cousins courtesy of the sprawling families of both her parents, actress Kate and singer father Keith Atack, who split in 2007. Alistair hails from her mother's side, being the stepson of Kate's sister Jane who married his father Stephen Garner, who passed away in the summer of 2023, leaving Emily devastated.

Celebrity Big Brother legend Chantelle Houghton slams 'disrespectful' and 'judgemental' Ekin-Su after OnlyFans debate Having won the series, the star ultimately bagged an impressive £25,000 prize. Earlier this year, Chantelle revealed the secrets behind her five stone weight loss. Speaking to WDW Bingo, she shared what she cut out of her diet after making a shocking discovery. "So basically, I started to realise and notice how much sugar, like processed sugar, was in food," she told us. "It started with a yogurt I was eating, and I realised there was four teaspoons of sugar in this, in this one yogurt, and I could easily have eaten two or three a day. "And for women, they say it's like nine teaspoons of sugar a day. So that was already 12 teaspoons. I was already three teaspoons over in three yogurts. "So I was like, how much unnecessary sugar am I eating? And so I started to cut sugar out, and then I completely cut it out," she revealed. Chantelle said that she then began to notice how much weight loss was happening, "and then I just went from there," she added. "I genuinely didn't exercise, I didn't go to the gym, I didn't do anything apart from cut sugar out, and the weight just started to drop off of me. "And it just goes to show how unhealthy sugar is." 4
