KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's hockey team could only draw 1-1 with the Liaoning team of China in a friendly match in Liaoning province today.
Dayang Nuramirah Abang Mahadini scored for world No. 23 Malaysia off a penalty corner.
It was a disappointing result for coach Nasihin Nubli's national side who were unable to beat a China provincial team that played in the Malaysian league last year.
The Speedy Tigresses went to China to play seven friendly matches in preparation for the Nations Cup 2 in Walcz, Poland from June 16-22.

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 12 Ng Eain Yow suffered a shock second-round exit at the British Open in Birmingham on Sunday. The Asian champion, who received a first-round bye, went down 13-11, 11-5, 11-7 to world No. 14 Victor Crouin of France in 58 minutes. It was Eain Yow's first loss to the Frenchman in four meetings and a disappointing step back after reaching the quarter-finals last year. Malaysia's campaign in the women's category also took a hit, with Rachel Arnold, Aifa Azman and Ainaa Amani all bowing out in the first round. S. Sivasangari is now the sole Malaysian left in the tournament. She begins her campaign in the second round later today. Despite the early exit, national coach Ajaz Azmat saw positives in Eain Yow's performance. "Eain Yow fought really hard, but it just wasn't his day," said Ajaz. "The first game was very close, and he had chances to take it. But Crouin was just too good, especially in the crucial stages." Racing for Idemitsu Honda Racing Malaysia in the ASB1000 category, Azroy took the win in Race 2 with a time of 25:23.640s at the Sepang International Circuit yesterday, ahead of JDT Racing Team's Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, who clocked 25:24.408s.
