Former M-E Spartan Brody Raleigh to begin Sophomore Season at WCU
CULLOWHEE, NC (WIVT/WBGH) – It is that time of the year for D-I college baseball to get underway, and one former Maine-Endwell Spartan has been competing at this next level, heading into his Sophomore year. Brody Raleigh is set for year number 2 at Western Carolina. Brody Raleigh competed out of M-E until COVID struck, where he finished his last 2 years of high school at a private school in North Carolina, but he says Maine-Endwell is still his alma mater and a place he loves.
Before high school, he was part of the M-E Little League team that won the Little League World Series. In his first season as a Catamount, he played in 13 games, entering 7 times as a pinch hitter, and 4 as a pinch runner. He recorded 3 runs and an RBI with a 231 on-base percentage. Last season the team went 28-26 overall, and 13-8 in conference, before falling in the SoCon Baseball Championships, but Raleigh has high hopes of the team being even better this season.
'This is a group of guys who really work hard,' said Raleigh. 'I don't think there's going to be much that's going to stop us in our way of preparing'
Raleigh's season with the Catamounts kicks off Friday, February 14th on the road against Georgia Southern.

Texas A&M Football: 2025 Aggies Season Preview and Prediction
Texas A&M Football: 2025 Aggies Season Preview and Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas A&M is typically good but not great. They've averaged eight victories since joining the SEC in 2012. Last season, their first under coach Mike Elko, they were 8-5. This year could be better if Reed continues to progress and personnel holes are adequately patched. But major defensive improvement is needed to break out of the eight-win rut. That may be surprising, but the Aggies averaged 29.4 points in SEC play and exceeded 30 points in five of eight conference games. They could be even better in 2025. That will depend largely on sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed, who showed promise in passing for 1,864 yards and rushing for 543 last season. Advertisement Transfer receivers KC Concepcion (NC State) and Mario Craver (Mississippi State) add much-needed speed. The Aggies also welcome the return of All-SEC running back Le'Veon Moss, who rushed for 765 yards despite missing all or most of five games because of injury. A&M's offensive line should be among the best in the conference, maybe even the nation. Tackle Trey Zuhn III has all-conference credentials. Guards Chase Bisontis and Ar'maj Reed-Adams should also contend for postseason accolades. Center Mark Nabou Jr. is back after missing almost all of last season because of a torn ACL. Once a premier defensive coordinator, Elko will resume calling that side of the ball. Still, a lot needs correcting, especially in the pass defense, which ranked 13th in the SEC. Advertisement All-SEC cornerback Will Lee III and nickelback Tyreek Chappell, also back from injury, are dependable. Transfers Jordan Shaw (Washington) and Julian Humphrey (Georgia) could upgrade coverage. The pass rush is also a concern. Defensive end Cashius Howell had four sacks last season. Nobody else on the roster had more than 2.5. Run defense is an issue, too. A&M allowed more runs of at least 20 yards (19) than any other team in the SEC. Linebackers Taurean York and Scooby Williams are solid, but improvement is needed. He's made 59 field goals in his career and has hit from 55 yards. Punter Tyler White has a big leg but needs to be more consistent. Sophomore Terry Bussey has vast potential on kick returns. Kick coverage must improve. Barry Sanders features in documentary about heart attack experience
Barry Sanders features in documentary about heart attack experience Show Caption Hide Caption Barry Sanders responds to Saquon Barkley calling him the G.O.A.T Barry Sanders responds to current RB's naming him the greatest running back of all time. Sports Seriously During Father's Day weekend last year, Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders suffered a heart attack. For Father's Day this year, Sanders is featured in a new documentary exploring what risks and lifestyle choices are behind heart attacks and strokes. "The Making of a Heart Attack" is a new documentary film set to premiere Saturday at 1 p.m. on A&E. In it, Sanders will talk to four other people "who faced a heart attack or stroke to uncover the hidden risks, lasting impact and what they want others to know," according to the film's description on A&E's website. On June 21 last year, Sanders shared a statement via social media announcing that he had "experienced a health scare related to my heart." BARRY SANDERS: Saquon Barkley likens his eventual retirement to Lions' legend's: 'Out of nowhere' 'It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling fine,' Sanders' statement read. 'I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for providing me with needed care. My family and I are thankful for your prayers and support during this time.' In a recent interview with The Athletic, Sanders said that he had no idea the heart attack was coming. As a former athlete who worked out consistently and stayed in shape, he was not aware of other factors or habits that could have led to the cardiovascular event. Even when he had suffered the heart attack, he was not aware it had happened. Sanders told The Athletic that it felt like a similar sensation to heartburn, but he eventually drove himself to the emergency room when it wouldn't go away. Sanders said his goal with this new documentary is to educate more people about the potential risks that can lead to – and the warnings that precede – heart attacks. He also wanted to explore why "the system, including healthcare professionals and patients, aren't catching the signs early enough." MORE BARRY SANDERS: Hall of Famer says Lions' turnaround has been 'miraculous' The film's description reads: "When it comes to cardiovascular disease, recognizing the risks is the first step to taking action." Sanders told The Athletic that "life since his heart attack has been good." The former Lions running back played in the NFL for 10 years and finished his career a six-time All-Pro and three-time Offensive Player of the Year award-winner. Sanders also won the NFL MVP award after the 1997 season, his penultimate year in the league. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
