M-E's Klinger earns News 34 Sports' Athlete of the Week
ENDWELL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Your winner of this week's News34 Sports Athlete of the Week is Cooper Klinger. The Spartans' baseball standout would record an RBI in both sectional finals games against Owego, which allowed the team to win them both in nail-biting fashion, 2-1 and 4-3. Since then, he has also helped M-E reach a final four appearance as they chase back-to-back state championships, having topped Section VII's Peru 7-4 in a game where he had a hit, run, and RBI. Lalor Family Dental offering free services during annual event
VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Lalor Family Dental is providing free dentistry to local community members in need. On April 26, Lalor Family Dentel will host its 16th annual Free Dental Care Day at its Main Office located at 2521 Vestal Parkway West. The Lalor Family Dental team will offer one cleaning, filling, or extraction, free of charge, to at least 250 people. Registration will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Patients will be seen on a first come first serve basis starting at 8. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Lalor Family Dental has been providing dental care to the community for over 61 years. The practice was started by Dr. Robert Lalor, better known as 'Doc', who inspired the very first Free Dental Care Day event in 2009. The event is now run by Doc's son, current practice owner Lalor II, and his wife Dr. Mary John. In addition, Lalor Family Dental will honor Rachel Mauger who organized Free Dental Care Day for 11 years before passing away in 2019. To celebrate her life, Lalor Family Dental started the Rachel Project to encourage staff and patients to sign up to become an organ donor through Donate Life. During Free Dental Care Day in April 2024, Lalor Family Dental donated more than $52,000 in free dentistry to 291 people. Lalor Family Dental says it is thrilled to host the event once again, recognizing the need for everyone to have good oral hygiene regardless of their ability to pay. For more information, click here. Former M-E Spartan Brody Raleigh to begin Sophomore Season at WCU
CULLOWHEE, NC (WIVT/WBGH) – It is that time of the year for D-I college baseball to get underway, and one former Maine-Endwell Spartan has been competing at this next level, heading into his Sophomore year. Brody Raleigh is set for year number 2 at Western Carolina. Brody Raleigh competed out of M-E until COVID struck, where he finished his last 2 years of high school at a private school in North Carolina, but he says Maine-Endwell is still his alma mater and a place he loves. Before high school, he was part of the M-E Little League team that won the Little League World Series. In his first season as a Catamount, he played in 13 games, entering 7 times as a pinch hitter, and 4 as a pinch runner. He recorded 3 runs and an RBI with a 231 on-base percentage. Last season the team went 28-26 overall, and 13-8 in conference, before falling in the SoCon Baseball Championships, but Raleigh has high hopes of the team being even better this season. 'This is a group of guys who really work hard,' said Raleigh. 'I don't think there's going to be much that's going to stop us in our way of preparing' Raleigh's season with the Catamounts kicks off Friday, February 14th on the road against Georgia Southern.
