Lakers jersey history No. 3 — Shawne Williams
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here's a look at Shawne Williams, a forward who played for the Lakers about a decade ago. Williams played one season at the University of Memphis and averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. He was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and the Conference USA tournament MVP for 2006 while leading all first-year players in the conference in scoring and rebounding. He played for four NBA teams before he came to the Lakers as a free agent in 2013. He appeared in 36 games with them during the 2013-14 season and averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 20.9 minutes a game while shooting 38% from the field. Williams spent the following season with the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons. He then had a stint with the Iowa Wolves of the G League before joining Al-Riffa of the Bahraini Premier League in 2019.

Insider Rules Out 2 Teams For Phillies' Kyle Schwarber In Free Agency
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Kyle Schwarber has been phenomenal for the Philadelphia Phillies this season, and he has set himself up for a payday in free agency. Schwarber has a .948 OPS this year and 42 home runs. He is in the MVP race, and the Phillies would be losing a huge piece of their team if he leaves this coming winter. He is a full-time DH at this point in his career, and according to MLB insider Jim Bowden, all but two teams would want him. CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 13: Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies seen in action during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Great American Ball Park on August 13, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 13: Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies seen in action during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Great American Ball Park on August 13, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio."Schwarber is putting together what could be his best year at the ideal time," wrote Bowden. "It looks like he will set career highs in home runs and RBIs. He has hit 40 homers or more in three of the past four years and currently ranks second in the National League in homers (42) and second in RBIs (98). He's crushed both righties (.563 slug) and lefties (.600) this year. He's the king of teammates — with leadership, baseball IQ and intangibles that are off the charts. Every team except the (Los Angeles) Dodgers and (New York) Yankees should want him to be their DH. The Phillies will make every effort to re-sign him, but it will be fascinating to see what the open market brings for this special power bat and teammate." The Dodgers and Yankees both already have full-time designated hitters without much defensive flexibility. Shohei Ohtani and Giancarlo Stanton would make it difficult for Schwarber to fit into those lineups. While every other team would gladly take him, his market will be much smaller. Not every team will be able to afford him, even if they can slot their current designated hitter into the field. More MLB: Phillies Predicted to Move On From 2-Time All-Star After Just 1 Season

Wings' Paige Bueckers faces more scrutiny in WNBA Rookie of the Year race
Wings' Paige Bueckers faces more scrutiny in WNBA Rookie of the Year race originally appeared on The Sporting News For virtually the entire 2025 season, Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers has been considered the overwhelming favorite to win WNBA Rookie of the Year honors. But the Washington Mystics' Sonia Citron is closing in fast as the regular season enters its final weeks, and an award race that once held little intrigue could suddenly blow up. MORE: Mystics' Sonia Citron sends Paige Bueckers a Rookie of the Year warning WNBA legend Candace Parker and Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston -- both former Rookies of the Year -- broke down what Bueckers has to do to stay ahead of Citron on their "Post Moves" podcast this week. In essence, Bueckers already has built a strong case -- she leads all rookies in points, assists and steals per game -- but Citron's efficiency and head-to-head wins over Bueckers threaten to tip the scales. "Everyone that has to vote (on the award) is going to have a fun job doing that," Boston said. "Both Sonia and Paige are killing it." Parker, who remains the only player in league history to win Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in the same season, suspects Bueckers has the award in the bag. But Citron's recent performances -- including 18 points in a win over Bueckers' Wings last Sunday -- have given Parker some pause, as has the fact that Bueckers has missed seven games this season. "It's just a matter of her being on the court, (it's) what all of us want to see," Parker said. "I think I give the nod to Paige Bueckers for Rookie of the Year, but Sonia, make me change my ways!" Whether Bueckers holds on or Citron completes an improbable rally to win Rookie of the Year, the WNBA is in good hands with these players -- both named to All-Star teams as rookies, and both celebrated for their efficient, multifaceted playing styles.
