For virtually the entire 2025 season, Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers has been considered the overwhelming favorite to win WNBA Rookie of the Year honors.
But the Washington Mystics' Sonia Citron is closing in fast as the regular season enters its final weeks, and an award race that once held little intrigue could suddenly blow up.
MORE: Mystics' Sonia Citron sends Paige Bueckers a Rookie of the Year warning
WNBA legend Candace Parker and Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston -- both former Rookies of the Year -- broke down what Bueckers has to do to stay ahead of Citron on their "Post Moves" podcast this week. In essence, Bueckers already has built a strong case -- she leads all rookies in points, assists and steals per game -- but Citron's efficiency and head-to-head wins over Bueckers threaten to tip the scales.
"Everyone that has to vote (on the award) is going to have a fun job doing that," Boston said. "Both Sonia and Paige are killing it."
Parker, who remains the only player in league history to win Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in the same season, suspects Bueckers has the award in the bag. But Citron's recent performances -- including 18 points in a win over Bueckers' Wings last Sunday -- have given Parker some pause, as has the fact that Bueckers has missed seven games this season.
"It's just a matter of her being on the court, (it's) what all of us want to see," Parker said. "I think I give the nod to Paige Bueckers for Rookie of the Year, but Sonia, make me change my ways!"
Whether Bueckers holds on or Citron completes an improbable rally to win Rookie of the Year, the WNBA is in good hands with these players -- both named to All-Star teams as rookies, and both celebrated for their efficient, multifaceted playing styles.

Kelsey Plum clarifies crack about Caitlin Clark's team at WNBA All-Star Game: 'I made a bad joke'

The WNBA All-Star Game made headlines last month when every player donned a "Pay Us What You Owe Us" T-shirt before the game in a show of solidarity as CBA negotiations drag on. Then Kelsey Plum generated a little controversy after the game. Speaking to reporters in the wake of a 151-131 win for her Team Collier side, Plum mentioned that "Zero members of Team Clark were very present" for the meeting. She treated it as a joke, laughing with teammate Sabrina Ionescu who sardonically added "That really needed to be mentioned." That comment, however, took on enough of a life of its own that the Los Angeles Sparks star addressed the matter during an appearance on Sue Bird's "Bird's Eye View" podcast published Friday. Bird brought up the matter by describing the comment as a "joke" that "just got twisted," to which Plum agreed. She then conceded it might not have been the best-timed joke given the gravity of the situation, lamenting the backlash's effect on the conversation: "I made a bad joke. I made a really bad joke ... And I should have — like, hindsight's 20/20, because of the shirts, because of the fans — I should have known it was a way more serious moment than a typical All-Star Game, because I went into that press conference very, like, happy-go-lucky we won, you know? Had a great weekend, my family's here, it was just a great time. "The questions came in, and it was like, 'CBA, this, this, this.' Honestly. Birdie, it was like, 'Hey, Team Clark, they didn't make it to the meeting either.' Just making a joke that they were hungover, trying to make the room lighter ... I was making a joke that they were hungover, even though our team nickname was 'hungover.' So I was like, 'At least we made it.' "Obviously, we're all on the same page. We all wore the shirts. Like, we're all unified. I think, if anything, I was just more discouraged because I felt like it took away from the moment of what we were trying to do. You don't even get to respond and if you do, you seem defensive." Plum is among the leaders of the Women's National Basketball Players Association as its first vice president, with only president Nneka Ogwumike ranking ahead of her on the players' side. The union and league are only a few months away from the expiration of the current CBA on Oct. 31. If they can't figure out a new agreement by then, they will be facing a work stoppage that could threaten the 2026 season. Even before breaking out the shirts, the players were openly unhappy with the state of the negotiations, especially with the league about to start bringing in $200 million in annual television money with its new deals. A two-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces, Plum is in her first season with the Sparks and currently ranks in the top 5 of the league in points, assists and 3-pointers made per game.

Blue Jays expected to sign top Korean prospect to 7-figure contract

Blue Jays expected to sign top Korean prospect to 7-figure contract originally appeared on The Sporting News The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of making a splash in the international market. It's the kind of forward-thinking move that can set the Blue Jays up for success many years down the road. According to Korean baseball insider Daniel Kim, the Blue Jays are "expected to sign" the top high school baseball prospect in Korea. His name: Seo-jun Moon. Moon is a senior at Jang-choong High School. He's listed at 6-foot-5 and is a right-handed pitcher. Moon's fastball is reported to be thrown in the mid-90s. Kim reports that the signing bonus for Moon is "expected to be more than ($1 million)." Here's a look at Moon on the mound: The Blue Jays have had a couple of notable Korean players in their history. The most prominent was lefty starter Hyun-jin Ryu. he pitched for the Blue Jays from 2020 to 2023 after signing for Toronto as a big-name free agent in 2020. Before that, the Blue Jays had relief pitcher Seung-hwan Oh on their roster, although he had previously made more of an impact with the St. Louis Cardinals. It's rare that Korean high schoolers sign at this stage rather than first playing in the KBO, so this is a special opportunity for the Blue Jays to get in on the ground floor of Moon's development. They'll have a chance to grow a pitching star in Toronto. MORE: The Blue Jays have the best method for determining their fantasy football draft order

They sure weren't satisfied with the status quo, though, as evidenced by their recent acquisition of DiJonai Carrington. The Most Improved Player award winner and All-Defensive First Team selection in 2024 has bolstered the league leader's depth, injected a dose of two-way energy into an already determined club and made a seamless transition after the midseason switch. 'She's been a great addition,' starting forward Bridget Carleton said. 'Playing against her has always been a challenge. She's just feisty, competitive, always wants to win, plays hard every single possession.' Even with superstar Napheesa Collier sidelined by a sprained right ankle, the Lynx haven't missed a beat. They're in first place by six games at 27-5, surging toward the No. 1 overall seed for the playoffs. 'You just want to feel like you're a better team when she comes back into the team, that you've figured some things out, that people are playing with confidence,' associate head coach Eric Thibault said. 'Our group's attitude is right about it. Nobody feels sorry for ourselves or anything like that. We just go out and battle.' Carrington was acquired from the Dallas Wings on Aug. 3 for backup forward Diamond Miller, injured guard Karlie Samuelson and Minnesota's 2027 second-round draft pick.e Miller was the second overall pick in the 2023 draft, so Carrington came at a price. But president of basketball operations and head coach Cheryl Reeve, who's chasing a fifth title with Minnesota, has this team fully in win-now mode with Collier in her prime and an experienced lineup around her led by five-time All-Star shooting guard Kayla McBride, two-time All-Star point guard Courtney Williams and shot-blocking specialist Alanna Smith patrolling the post. 'I'm a winner, and this is a winning organization,' Carrington said. The 5-foot-11 native of San Diego, who played her first four WNBA seasons with the Connecticut Sun, was dealt to Dallas earlier this year. She averaged a career-best 5.1 rebounds in 20 games with the Wings. In three games since the trade, and coincidentally since Collier was injured, Carrington has 40 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. The Lynx take a five-game winning streak into their game on Saturday against the defending champion New York Liberty, whom they've already beaten twice this month in a measure of revenge for their overtime loss in New York last year in the decisive game of the WNBA Finals. In the previous round, when the Lynx beat the Sun in a five-game series, Reeve became enamored by Carrington, who had 17 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and one block in defeat in the decisive game of those semifinals. The chance this summer to acquire a defensive ace on the perimeter who could alleviate some of the burden on McBride as well as provide more scoring off the bench was one the Lynx couldn't miss. 'We felt like we could use a little bit more help as we made this run,' Reeve said. 'If you stay exactly the same, it's really hard to accomplish and get back and get over the hump, so we wanted to keep the group together — but we also thought we needed a little bit more.' Williams and Natisha Hiedeman played with Carrington with the Sun, so there was pre-existing chemistry. Smith was a teammate of Carrington's at Stanford, as well, so they were already close. 'It was like a friend coming home,' Smith said. 'That's kind of how it felt. I was excited. I think she's a piece that's really good for us and only going to help us get to the point we want to get to, which is a championship.'
