Global consortium inks deal to build AAE-2 subsea cable line
A next-generation subsea digital link, AAE-2 will be linking Asia, Africa and European continent, as part of its efforts to empower emerging markets as well as drive digital transformation and unlocking economic growth.
The project is spearheaded by industry leaders combining expertise and resources to deliver a world-class infrastructure.
This groundbreaking project marks a vital step in addressing the increasing demand for robust internet infrastructure, facilitating faster data transfer and improved connectivity across multiple regions.
The consortium aims to deliver unprecedented capacity and reliable connectivity by creating a future-proof data highway across the three continents.
It is dedicated to ensuring the successful delivery of this transformative infrastructure project, which will play a crucial role in shaping the future of global connectivity.
The project aims to establish a robust next-generation subsea digital link connecting Hong Kong and Singapore to Italy traversing secure and high-capacity terrestrial corridors across Thailand, the Arabian Peninsula, and Egypt.
It is planned to strategically deliver unprecedented capacity and foster seamless, reliable connectivity across the three continents, it added.

By integrating both subsea and terrestrial infrastructure, AAE-2 will create a future-proof data highway between Asia, Africa and Europe.
Building on the legacy of the AAE-1 cable, AAE-2 will incorporate the most advanced technological innovations offering unprecedented bandwidth capacity to serve the tremendous traffic needs and empowering communities and businesses across Asia, Africa and Europe.

Among the key initiatives are the Blue & Raman submarine cable systems - that links Italy to India through an innovative path - together with the strengthening of the Sicily Hub in Palermo and the hub in Chania as well as the creation of a brand new scalable landing platform in Genoa.

AMEA Power joins Phase II of $291m Morocco desalination project
Dubai-based AMEA Power has announced its entry into the second phase of the Agadir desalination project in Morocco. The facility will be powered by its 150MW wind project in Laayoune, which is being co-developed with Cox. One of the fastest growing renewable energy companies in the region, AMEA Power boasts a clean energy pipeline of over 6GW across 20 countries. The first phase of the project was developed by Cox, a global leader in water and energy management, while the second phase will be delivered through a joint venture, with AMEA Power joining the project and supplying renewable energy through its co-developed wind farm. Once operational, it will become the company's first water desalination plant in Africa, said the company in a statement. This project is the first to be executed under the strategic joint venture agreement signed in May between AMEA Power and Cox. It reflects the shared ambition of both companies to deliver integrated infrastructure projects where access to water and energy are deeply interconnected. Upon completion of the expansion, the Agadir desalination plant will reach a total capacity of 400,000 cu m/day, making it one of the largest desalination facilities in Africa. The total investment for the second phase of the desalination project and the associated wind power facility is expected to exceed €250 million ($291 million). The desalination expansion is expected to be operational between 2026 and 2027, with the wind farm coming online in 2027. AMEA Chairman Power Hussain Al Nowais said: "Our entry into the second phase of the Agadir desalination project in Morocco, under the Water Alliance Ventures platform, reflects AMEA Power's ambition to address both water and energy challenges through integrated solutions."
