I bought $50 worth of cheap home decor from Amazon Haul. Here's what I'd buy again

As a home editor on a budget, I'm always looking out for furniture and decor that looks more expensive than it actually is. As much as I'm personally interested in scoring deals, I also love sharing these affordable home products with CNN Underscored readers. And there's no doubt that Amazon is one of the most convenient places to find hidden gems that will elevate your space. I've had my eye on Amazon Haul — a marketplace where pretty much everything from tech gadgets to fashion finds costs less than $20 and often is unbranded — ever since it launched less than a year ago, but I was skeptical about the selection of home decor and its quality. To find out what it was really like, I spent hours scrolling through Amazon Haul and ordered $50 worth of decor. Everything I added to my cart was $10 or less, but surprisingly, only a few things proved to be useless junk. Keep reading to discover the cheap home decor finds I'd actually consider purchasing again. Yuxiang Kitchen Plant Mister Spray Bottle I always forget to water my plants, so I figured putting this pretty spray bottle next to my greenery would serve as a stylish reminder. I love the colorful, vintage-inspired design. Even though it costs just $5, the glass felt heavy-duty and the nozzle put out a strong stream of water. Wild Autumn Dried Pampas Grass Pampas grass is classic fall decor. This $10 bundle of dried pampas grass from Amazon Haul was so fluffy (it could easily fill an entire vase or even a few smaller vases), and it had a subtle earthy scent. It's an easy way to add an autumnal touch practically anywhere in your home. It sheds a lot at first, so definitely open it up outside and give the bundle a good shake. Rihvy Rechargeable Wall Lights, 2-Pack I was most excited about these USB-C rechargeable wall sconces. I didn't feel like drilling anything into my walls, so I used the included double-sided tape — it's surprisingly strong — and stuck the lights on both sides of my bed. They have a magnetic head that makes it easy to adjust the angle (plus a remote for changing the brightness and warmth), so they could be used as a reading light or as a spotlight for artwork on the wall. The only downside is that they don't hold a charge very long. But since you can detach them from the wall, it's no big deal to plug them in as needed. Smart Bargain White Lotus Ring Dish I'm a sucker for ring dishes, and I highly recommend any jewelry-wearing person keep several scattered all over their home. Not only are they a safe place to hold rings and earrings when you take them off but they're an easy way to add a decorative touch to places like your dresser, nightstand, and bathroom or kitchen countertops. This one is simple in design (and comes in two colors), but it does its job. Acithgl Bubble Candle, 2-Pack These aren't the kind of candles I'd recommend lighting, though they do have wicks and a floral scent. Instead, I'd style them on a pretty tray and place them on a bookshelf, dresser or media console. At under $4 apiece in some colors, I think these are a pretty good value. I've seen similar candles go for double the price. Heart Origin Direct Faux-Marble Silicone Tray I got this tray in a now-unavailable white marble pattern, but the pink version is just as chic. It definitely can't pass as real marble because it's clearly made from silicone, but that makes it a good addition to a bathroom countertop or vanity because it won't slip and is easy to clean. I plan to place this in my living room to hold my candle tools (like matches and a wick trimmer). Linwus Retro Vinyl Record Coasters, 6-Pack Since I'm also CNN Underscored's gift guide editor, I've always got holiday shopping on the brain. These vinyl-shaped coasters would make such a great stocking stuffer or just-because present for the music lover in your life. They're made of plastic, so the quality is what you'd expect for $3, but surprisingly, this was one of the only items I ordered that came in gift-ready packaging as opposed to a plastic bag or an unmarked cardboard box. What is Amazon Haul? What is Amazon Haul? Amazon Haul launched in November 2024 as a mobile-only shopping experience where everything could be purchased at ridiculously low prices, similar to Shein and Temu. Though the Amazon Haul storefront appears to be available on desktop now too, it's still in beta mode. In my experience, the search function is finicky and descriptions for many products are bare bones. You have to spend at least $25 to get free shipping, which can take up to two weeks (though all my items were delivered much faster than expected). You can even get a slight discount for spending more; I got 5% knocked off because my cart totaled $50. Are Amazon Haul items returnable? Are Amazon Haul items returnable? According to Amazon's return policy, items purchased from Amazon Haul that cost over $3 can be returned within 15 days of delivery, while anything less than $3 is considered final sale. Since some of the items I bought arrived a week earlier than expected, I noticed that the return window was still based on the original delivery date, so I ended up getting more time. (This isn't advertised anywhere, though.) Is Amazon Haul worth it? Is Amazon Haul worth it? Whether shopping on Amazon Haul is worth it or not depends on what you're looking for and how you set your expectations. As long as you don't expect high-quality products at dirt-cheap prices, you have a good chance of avoiding disappointment. In total, I ordered 11 items from Amazon Haul and was satisfied with the quality of seven of them. Some items only slightly missed the mark; the flower vase I ordered was too lightweight for my liking and kept tipping over, while this acrylic jar arrived chipped and required way too much assembly for a $5 product. In many cases, I think you could find similarly priced items on Amazon's regular storefront that come with the retailer's beloved two-day shipping and 30-day return window. However, it's worth mentioning that I saw quite a few items (including some of the decor finds on my list) with identical Amazon Haul and regular Amazon listings, both at the same price. I even found some brand-name items hidden among Amazon Haul's pages, so you never know what you'll come across. You'll probably have trouble finding very specific types of home decor on Amazon Haul, so it's better to have an open mind if you're determined to shop there. This story was written by our home and gifts editor Amina Lake Patel, who has seven years of experience writing about products within the home and lifestyle space. She bought $50 worth of home decor on Amazon Haul to see if any of it is actually worth buying.

You Say Tomato, I Say Bingo

A year ago, I decamped to a cottage about an hour from New York City for a long weekend of leisure with some girlfriends. We endeavored to unplug, and the trip was blissfully unstructured. Each evening, in pairs, we'd take our time constructing an ornate dinner to be eaten outside on a picnic table. I remember those meals vividly. But during the day, when our stomachs started to rumble, one of us would saunter into the kitchen and scrounge for lunch for the group. Those hodgepodges are a little hazier. Except for the tomato toasts. Man, were they good. A friend brought out to the yard peak-season crimson and tangerine heirlooms, sliced thick and shingled over generously mayonnaised sourdough, showered in more black pepper than you'd think you'd need, on a platter surrounded by potato chips. We oohed and ahhed as if she'd grown the tomatoes herself. We're heading to the cottage again tomorrow, and while I don't have my night's dinner planned just yet, tomato toast is top of mind for some meal or another. Welcome back to another — and the final — round of Summer Veggie Bingo. We've saved the best for last. It's tomato time.
