UFC's Curtis Blaydes to have surgery, out for remainder of 2025
Blaydes' most recent appearance came on June 21, when he beat Rizvan Kuniev by split decision at UFC on ABC 8 in Baku, Azerbaijan. It turns out that will be his only fight of 2025 as the perennial heavyweight contender said he is set to undergo surgery Monday.
"I'm going to be out the rest of the year," Blaydes said during a fan Q&A before UFC 319 in Chicago. "I injured my meniscus in my last fight. I probably won't be back until January. … I'll be out for eight weeks, but I'm hoping to be back by January."
Blaydes, 34, is 2-2 in past four UFC appearances, with wins over Kuniev and Jailton Almeida, and losses to Sergei Pavlovich and reigning UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in an interim title fight.
By the time Blaydes returns, Aspinall and Ciryl Gane will have settled business in their UFC 320 title fight – barring unforeseen circumstances. It'll be Aspinall's first attempt at defending the undisputed heavyweight title, a status he attained after Jon Jones retired and relinquished the belt.
While Jones recently re-entered the UFC's drug-testing pool in hopes of competing at the planned UFC White House event next July, Blaydes is happy about his absence and what it means for the foreseeable future.
"I'm happy that the heavyweight division is starting to move along. We don't got to worry about Jon Jones no more," Blaydes said. "I think Aspinall beats Gane."

Dana White: Rumor on UFC Apex's massive expansion 'biggest bullsh*t story ever written'
CHICAGO – Dana White isn't sure how a story he says is false was written about the UFC Apex supposedly expanding it's capacity in a big way. With the UFC signing a $7.7 billion broadcast deal with Paramount, which begins in 2026, a report emerged that the UFC Apex plans on expanding to 10,000 seats, which was later corrected in the story. Not only did White heavily dismiss the report, but said he was stunned to see UFC officials were quoted. "That was the biggest bullsh*t story ever written. It's f*cking unbelievable," White told reporters at the UFC 319 post-fight press conference. "They quoted people that literally said nothing to them – never spoke to them or anything. That entire story was a f*cking absolute bullsh*t lie – the craziest thing we've ever seen. "I called (the UFC PR director) and said 'This whole story is a lie. Everything about it is a lie, including the people that they quoted. Never talked to them.' If you look at the construction that's going on at the Apex, to even think that it's going to be a 10,000-seat arena, it's f*cking unbelievable. Complete lie. Everything about that story was a lie." The UFC Apex has hosted events ever since the global pandemic in 2020. It plays home to Dana White's Contender Series, "The Ultimate Fighter," and numerous fight night events throughout the year.

Demetrious Johnson defends Khamzat Chimaev: 'Don't watch UFC' if you don't like his style
Demetrious Johnson has a simple solution for those who didn't enjoy Khamzat Chimaev's UFC 319 title win. Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) dominated Dricus Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) on the ground en route to a unanimous decision win in Saturday's main event at United Center in Chicago. Chimaev had over 21 minutes of control time on Du Plessis, and was showered with boos from the fans several times throughout the fight. Johnson expects better from the fans. "If you guys don't want to watch grappling and wrestling and jiu-jitsu, don't watch UFC," Johnson said on his YouTube channel. "Go watch ONE Championship, go watch Lion Fighting, go watch Glory, go watch kickboxing, go watch muay Thai, right? It's very simple. You guys are complaining about something that's a very simple problem to fix. "For example, let's say Khamzat's about to fight again, you don't want to watch his style, all you've got to do is go like this, you see this button right here? It's called 'off'OFF' button. You don't have to see Khamzat wrestle. It's a very simple problem to fix. You guys are making it a bigger deal than it is." Chimaev has various options for his first title defense from Reinier de Ridder, to Anthony Hernandez, to the winner of the Sept. 6 headliner between Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho. Whoever is next, Johnson says they're in for a long night if they can't handle Chimaev's grappling prowess. "I honestly thought Khamzat was going to be able to finish DDP if he was able to take DDP down, but I also thought DDP was going to do a better job about defending the takedown and he wasn't able to stop the takedown," Johnson said. "That was the story of that fight. So moving forward, whoever fights Khamzat, they need to decide. "Like, (Nassourdine) Imavov or (Caio) Borralho – they fight Sept. 6. Whoever wins that fight, if they do not come with a wrestling defense or a good jiu-jitsu attacking style like going after the legs, elevating Khamzat, they're going to lose. I feel totally comfortable saying that. They're going to lose – because Khamzat does not want to stand. He wants to show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot. So if those guys don't have a ground game or have an answer for his wrestling, it's going to be the same exact thing that happened to DDP."
