TRAGIC ACCIDENT 'One in a million' former jockey dies aged 43 after being kicked in head by horse as pal says 'we lost our little girl'
A 'ONE in a million' former jockey has died aged 43 after being kicked in the head by a horse.
Heartbroken friends said they had 'lost their little girl' as they came to terms with the shock passing of Australian Peta Tait.

Tait rode 48 winners between 1998 and 2019 and had been working as a stable lass and work rider since giving up race-riding.
She was going about her normal business for trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young when struck in the head at Cranbourne Training Centre in south-east Melbourne earlier this week.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and performed CPR but she could not be saved.
The trainers said in a statement: "Peta was an incredible person who was dedicated to her role and will leave a longstanding legacy. We are heartbroken by her loss."
Jockey Daniel Moor wrote on X: "It's difficult to find the words to describe a one in a million person, but that's exactly who Peta was.
"So dedicated to her job and always so helpful. Constantly putting others before herself. She will be very sadly missed."
Police are investigating the circumstances around the incident - although it was believed to be a 'tragic accident'.
Tait rode her first ever winner for trainer Reg Manning aged 16 and he said: "It was just a freak accident.
"It was not as if she did anything wrong, or it was a bad horse, it just kicked out for whatever reason.
"I couldn't have kids, but I have got three girls that all call me 'Dad' from different families.
"We helped all of them growing up and Peta was no different - we were very close.
"Fellow trainers Ian and Jan Hutchins were like family to her as well. She learnt a lot from them.
"They treated her very well, and they will be just as sad as I am that we have lost our little girl."
Racing Victoria chief executive Aaron Morrison said: "This terrible accident serves as an untimely reminder of the thousands of unsung heroes working in stables each day to provide the best possible care to our racehorses.
"Like all within our industry, Peta loved horses and she forged a career working with them, helping numerous trainers prepare their horses as a trackwork rider or strapping them on race day.
"Peta made a valuable contribution to Victorian racing over more than 25 years and her sudden passing will be felt by many, particularly in Cranbourne where she was based."

John Souttar tells furious Rangers fans it's ‘unfair' under-fire boss Russell Martin is copping all their criticism

Souttar said: "I think it's not fair for one person to take the flak, I think we all have to take it. "It's not just the manager, I think we are all due it. "Everyone at this club who wants to play here has to understand that when things are not going well and demands are not met, then you are going to take flak, you need to accept that. "In the first half on Tuesday we actually shot ourselves in the foot with how we started. "When you give away the goals we did, that makes any game difficult. "Especially a game like that when there is so much at stake and we are playing against a team of that quality. "In the second half we were a bit better and made them a bit more uncomfortable, but the damage was done before that." Gers travel to Belgium next Wednesday with it all to do, but Souttar revealed that he hasn't given up all hope of a turnaround. He continued: "We brought pressure on ourselves by conceding those two goals in the manner we did. Rangers Tribute Pub Vandalised in Violent Attack: Community Stands Strong "That makes everything harder so we have to go over there and be on the front foot. "We can't afford to give goals away the way we did. "We need to implement our game plan on them, instead of giving them the start we did. "There is still the belief because we have had big results away from home in Europe in the last few years. "But there is no point saying that, we need to go and show it." "Of course we have to cling on to [an improved second half], we have to cling on to something. "The way we played in the second half, we were on the front foot but obviously it's easier when you have nothing to lose. "We wanted to start like that, but when you lose two goals like that it naturally derails everything. 4 "We were a bit better in the second half and when we go over there next week we've got to play like that. "On Tuesday night, we gave them confidence and that made life so difficult. "We've had good European nights here and Ibrox has been a place where opposition teams don't feel comfortable, but we gave Brugge that comfort. "So when you give teams that comfort, it's a lot easier for them to play out from the back, take risks and be more relaxed, and we gifted them that luxury. "It's important when we have European games here that we get the crowd on our side and make the opposition uncomfortable. "That's our biggest asset and we just didn't do that." Investigation launched over death of French Kick streamer who died mid-livestream

An investigation has been launched into the death of a French Kick streamer who died during a ten-day livestream on the video hosting platform. Jean Pormanove was frequently one of the most watched streamers in France, known for streaming video games and extreme challenges, like sleep deprivation marathons, with fellow content creators. French media have reported in the hours and even months that preceded his death that Pormanove was subjected to "torture, humiliation, and abuse." His death was confirmed by another creator, called Naruto, who often collaborated with Pormanove in his videos. Writing on X, French digital technologies minister Clara Chappaz shared her condolences. She also confirmed French authorities were investigating and the incident had been referred to Arcom, France's media regulator. "The death of Jean Pormanove and the violence he endured are an absolute horror. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."Jean Pormanove was humiliated and mistreated for months live on the Kick platform. "A judicial investigation is underway." She added she had contacted Kick for an explanation. "The responsibility of online platforms regarding the dissemination of illicit content is not optional: It is the law. This type of failure can lead to the worst and has no place in France, Europe, or anywhere else," she said. Describing the incident as "horrifying," the French High Commissioner for Childhood, Sarah El Haïry, said: "Platforms have an immense responsibility in regulating online content so that our children are not exposed to violent content. "I call on parents to exercise the utmost vigilance," she added. Kick is an Australian platform with a large number of young users, thanks in part to its popularity with gamers streaming content. In a statement, the streaming platform said: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jean Pormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends and community. "We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and engaging with relevant stakeholders to investigate the situation. "Kick's community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we remain committed to upholding these standards across our platform."
