Inter Milan and AC Milan are aiming to buy the land around the San Siro from the city of Milan.
The club's ambition is to build a new stadium adjacent to the existing structure.
Inter and Milan have long wanted to build a new stadium. They feel that it is necessary to keep their infrastructure and revenues competitive with the biggest clubs in Europe.
Having initially planned to try and demolish the San Siro and build in its place, Inter faced a number of bureaucratic hurdles. Therefore, the clubs considered plans to build individually outside the city.
But now, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have decided to try and build a stadium adjacent to the existing one.

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala commented that 'clearly no one wants to give anything away for free.'
'And clearly, the teams have to look after their own interests,' he added.
'Today, its very hard to get everything done. There's a desire on my part, and on the part of the other politicians, to move forward.'
'But there are a lot of obstacles,' Sala warned.
'I'm just concerned about whether or not we can reach an agreement that's in our mutual interest,' the Mayor said.
He clarified that 'the interest of the city administration isn't so much cash flow as the public interest.'

'While the interest of the clubs is to balance their books.'
'I hope we can reach an agreement,' said Sala. 'But we're still negotiating.'
'Some councillors have raised objections to the sale price, which has been certified by the Revenue Agency and the University.'
'They've said that if we were to sell and make a quick profit, the municipality should be entitled to a return,' Sala said.

Norris takes pole for F1's Belgian Grand Prix after Verstappen wins sprint
SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium (AP) — Lando Norris took pole position Saturday for Formula 1's Belgian Grand Prix after Max Verstappen won the sprint race earlier in the day. Norris set the fastest time early in the final session. His McLaren teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri couldn't quite beat it on his final run, taking second place, 0.085 of a second off Norris' pace. Charles Leclerc was third for Ferrari, with Verstappen fourth. The likelihood of rain for Sunday's race could shake things up. Verstappen's sprint win Verstappen overtook Oscar Piastri and drove '15 qualifying laps' to win the Formula 1 sprint race at the Belgian GP as Red Bull begins a new era without fired team principal Christian Horner. Verstappen surged past Piastri on the straight on the first lap. The Australian was close behind Verstappen for the rest of the 15-lap sprint race but couldn't find a way past the four-time champion. Lando Norris, in the other McLaren, was third after retaking the place from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and catching up to Piastri. 'You're keeping faster cars behind, so you have to drive over the limit of what you think is possible,' Verstappen said. 'Tire management is out of the window, so that's what's making it really difficult. I'm just doing 15 qualifying laps to try and keep them behind on a track where tire management is important.' It was Verstappen's first race win of any sort since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May, and his first in a sprint since the United States Grand Prix last October. Piastri extends his lead over Norris in the standings to nine points from eight. Verstappen is third, 68 points off the lead. Leclerc held on to fourth and it was an impressive result for Haas, with Esteban Ocon fifth and Oliver Bearman seventh. Carlos Sainz, Jr. was sixth for Williams and Isack Hadjar took the final point for Racing Bulls in eighth. ___ AP auto racing: The Associated Press

England's captain Leah Williamson says Lionesses are 'connected to what it means for nation' ahead of Women's Euros final
Leah Williamson has said England are "aware" and "connected" to what it would mean for the nation if they were to beat Spain in Sunday's Women's Euro final. The Lionesses have led a charmed life in the knockout stages of the tournament they won at Wembley four years ago. England captain Williamson was asked by Sky News' what it would mean to have the chance to lift a trophy again and if she could grasp what it would mean for the nation. "I think we are connected to what it means to the nation, as connected as we can be being away from home," she said. "The opportunity of tomorrow and what's on offer is the best thing in football. "We came to the tournament and wanted to be in it until the end, and have a chance to fight for that trophy. "I think we don't necessarily carry the weight of it [the expectations] and how much it means to people, but we are aware of it because it means the same to us. "We recognise the opportunity and will do everything we can to take it." England needed two late goals to stay in the quarter-final against Sweden before winning in a penalty shootout. They looked to be out in the semi-final against Italy before Michelle Agyemang equalised deep in added time, and Chloe Kelly scored a 119th-minute winner with another shootout imminent. Sunday's task in Basel is a chance for revenge as they face the Spain team that beat them 1-0 in the World Cup final in Sydney in 2023. Southampton midfielder Primus signs new deal
Southampton midfielder Atlanta Primus has signed a new one-year contract with the club ahead of the 2025/2026 season. The Saints announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today. The 28-year-old midfielder joined Southampton in summer 2023 after opting to leave former club London City Lionesses at the end of her contract. The Saints acquired her services after she starred for the Jamaican national team at the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. Primus was very much the standout performer for The Reggae Girlz as they battled bravely at the tournament. Primus made 19 appearances in all competitions for Southampton in her first season at St Mary's Stadium. She then joined The Saints' Barclays WSL2 rivals Charlton Athletic on loan for the whole of last season. Some may have wondered whether Primus' time as a Saint was over, however, the player has agreed to sign a new one-year contract and begin the new era under recently-appointed head coach Simon Parker. After signing on again at St Mary's Stadium, Primus said 'I'm really happy to have re-signed, it's an exciting time ahead and I'm really looking forward to the new season.' Further Southampton squad news will be announced in due course.
