San Siro set for strangest demolition ever with Inter and AC Milan ordered to keep only MIDDLE TIER of legendary stadium
THE San Siro could be demolished in the coming years, with only the middle tier preserved. AC Milan and Inter have been looking at ways to redevelop or replace their iconic home for several years. 3 3 The Serie A giants have consistently run into stumbling blocks due to local government ruling the San Siro to be a heritage site of "cultural interest". This has prohibited Milan and Inter from completely tearing it down in order to rebuild it. According to Football Ground Guide, controversial plans are being developed for the majority of the 80,000-seater San Siro to be demolished. The middle tier must be preserved, however, meaning that the Milan clubs would have to find a way to keep it intact while knocking the rest of the stadium down. This demolition operation would cost at least an estimated £65million. And that's not including the money that building the new structure would cost. Milan and Inter are said to be engaging in talks with local authorities. The San Siro had been selected to host the 2027 Champions League final, having last staged the showpiece event in 2016. It will now be staged in either Baku in Madrid, with both cities having launched bids. Several plans have been hatched for a potential San Siro replacement down the years. Inter Milan fans INVADE Munich ahead of Champions League final vs PSG One of the more innovative ideas included a remarkable underground stadium. The unusual suggestion was designed by architect Davide Bruno who presented the idea during the Il Foglio a San Siro event. These plans also included the construction of luxury hotels and restaurants, as well as event spaces. While a suggestion was also made for a new park to be built above the stadium, including 20,000 Trees, 500,000 Flowers and more than four miles of slopes and pedestrian paths. 3
