Hydroponic Cannabis Worth Rs 3.47 Crore Seized At Mumbai Airport, 2 Arrested

Customs officials on Wednesday arrested two persons after recovering hydroponic marijuana valued at Rs 3.47 crore from them at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, an official said.
The two passengers, both Indians, were intercepted after they arrived in the city from Bangkok, the official said.
A search led to the recovery of 3,474 grams of hydroponic marijuana, with potential to fetch about Rs 3.47 crore in the illicit drug market, concealed in their checked-in baggage, he official said.
Hydroponic weed refers to cannabis plants grown using a hydroponic system, which is a method of growing plants without soil.
The passengers have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official said, adding that further investigations are underway.

Bengaluru: Two cab drivers duped a youth here on the pretext of providing him a cheaper ride home from the airport. The incident, which was reported to the police on June 23, happened when the victim arrived at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from Japan on June 20 and was looking to book a taxi to his J P Nagar home. While he was trying to book a taxi, Santosh approached him, offering a ride for Rs 1,000 – cheaper than what cab aggregators would usually charge. Once Sandeep agreed to the fare, the trip started with Kabiruddin, a native of Assam, behind the wheel. However, just a few metres into the ride, Kabiruddin passed his phone to Sandeep, saying there was a ride confirmation call that he needed to respond to. Soon, Sandeep realised it was Santosh at the other end of the call, claiming that the base price for the trip would be Rs 899, with Rs 50 charged for every km. Additionally, 1.9% of the total fare would be levied as night surcharge. Overall, a much higher amount than what was initially agreed upon. Sandeep disagreed with the amount and told Kabiruddin to stop the vehicle so that he could get down, but Kabiruddin continued to drive. He locked the doors and was speeding. He drove till Esteem Mall, turning a deaf ear to Sandeep's insistence to stop the car. Kabiruddin then stopped the car and demanded Rs 4,220. Upon reaching home, Sandeep narrated his ordeal to his father, who lodged a complaint with KIA police. A senior police officer confirmed that there have been complaints about drivers picking up passengers, offering cheaper rides from the airport, but eventually coercing them into paying much higher amounts. He even said that this particular name, Santosh, had figured in some of the other incidents as well, though no one had filed any official plaint against him. ANPR cameras installed to monitor traffic violations in Bagalkot
Bagalkot: Bagalkot police have resorted to technology to monitor traffic violations and catch the culprits. The ANPR cameras installed at several junctions in the city will provide proof of the violation, and a notice will reach the registered owner of the vehicle concerned specifying the penalty to be paid. The offender has to pay the fine at the nearby police station and take the receipt. A senior police officer said that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at 22 locations in Bagalkot. The location where the cameras have been installed will not be disclosed. ANPR is a technology that uses cameras and software to automatically read and identify vehicle registration plates without human intervention. Based on the recorded material and the picture captured by the camera, the owner of the vehicle will be identified and a notice will be sent to him, he said. Traffic violations like two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets, four-wheeler drivers not fastening seat belts, use of mobile phones while driving, signal jumping, triple riding, overloading, and others are common in city limits and also outside the city. ‘Harassed' in road rage case, auto driver found hanging
Thane: A 67-year-old autorickshaw driver committed suicide after a car driver harassed him by detaining him at his bungalow, the auto driver's family has alleged. The family of auto driver, Munjari Shelke, has demanded that a case of murder be registered against the car driver, Akash Mhatre, who they said is associated with Shiv Sena (UBT).
