Shots fired at newly opened Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada
Kap's Café, which was inaugurated recently, was targeted in the early hours of Thursday by unknown persons.
Several bullets were fired at the cafe and the marks they left were clear and a window was also shattered, according to Sameer Kaushal, founder of the outlet NewsDerby, who was at the scene of the crime on Thursday morning.
Several cruisers of the Surrey Police Service (SPS) lined the street outside the cafe, which is located in a popular destination for outings and lies along the border of the towns of Surrey and Delta in British Columbia.
An unverified video of a person firing at the cafe at night also circulated on social media as did unconfirmed posts in which Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, who are associated with the proscribed terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International or BKI, allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack. In the posts, in English and Punjabi, they claimed an episode of the popular Kapil Sharma Show featured a character who made some humorous remarks about the dress and behaviour of Nihangs, which hurt their religious sentiments. Neither the veracity of the posts nor the claim could be established at this time.

BKI is recognised as a terrorist outfit by the Canadian government.
The shootings occurred in what is largely a residential locality and in fact, there are apartments in the complex where the cafe is situated.
Local police had not made a statement about the incident yet.
However, the city and the Lower Mainland region of the province, have seen a wave of businesses that have been targeted by criminal gangs with the objective of extortion.
Strangely enough, on July 3, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had announced the arrest of two persons, who were not identified by name, for their involvement in extortion-related violence. A day later they had been released without charges, according to the outlet Global News.
On June 11, businessman Satwinder Sharma was shot dead in neighbouring Abbotsford. Meanwhile, Satish Kumar, president of the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey, has experienced his businesses being targeted multiple times this year. Kumar told the outlet Vancouver Sun last month, 'My life is on the line. My family's life is on the line.' In December 2023, the residence where his son and family live in was fired upon.

Protests in Jalgaon after statue desecration
Nashik: Residents of a Jalgaon village, within Pahur police station's jurisdiction, took to the streets on Aug 15 after a statue of a prominent Indian politician was found desecrated in the market area at 7.30 am on Friday. Protests were also staged by a political party in front of the Jalgaon district collector's office, demanding strict action against those involved in the desecration. NRI family attacked, constable line-attached after protest
Bhopal: A London-based NRI family was allegedly targeted and attacked in Bhind district, triggering anger among members of the Sikh community and forcing police to act against a local constable accused of instigating the assault. Vikramjit Singh, originally from Ashoknagar and now settled in the UK, had arrived at his in-laws' house in Fatehpur village near Gohad after two and a half years, along with his wife Rajveer Kaur, son Rohanpreet Singh and daughter Ravneet Kaur. On Thursday evening, while the family was buying fruits on Station Road in Gohad, they got into an altercation with constable Kuldeep Kushwaha, who was in plain clothes. According to the family, the constable used abusive language, made a video of their car, and grew angry when asked for his identity. "When I refused to let him make a video of my car and family, he called others and asked them to come with weapons," Singh told police officers. The family left in their car but was allegedly intercepted near a dhaba between Station Road and Fatehpur village. Court allows man 1.8 crore damages plea in dowry case
Gurgaon: A district court has awarded Rs 1.8 crore in damages to Gurusharan Lal Awasti, a UK citizen, who was falsely implicated in a dowry harassment case by his wife. The court's decision comes after Awasti was acquitted of all charges in 2017, prompting him to file a suit for "malicious prosecution" against his wife, Shalini Vashisht. The legal battle began in 2008, when Awasti — an Indian-origin British citizen — married Shalini, a city resident. Awasti later discovered discrepancies in Shalini's educational qualification, which led to tension between the couple. In 2009, Shalini filed a dowry harassment complaint against Awasti and his family, accusing them of cruelty, criminal breach of trust, and intimidation. An FIR was also registered against him for domestic violence and other IPC sections. Awasti was arrested during a visit to India in 2014. He spent 31 days in Bhondsi jail before being granted bail. He frequently travelled between London and Gurgaon for the trial, pleading for a speedy resolution. In 2017 — after an arduous eight-year legal battle — the district court acquitted Awasti and his family, citing inconsistencies in Shalini's statements and insufficient evidence from the prosecution.
