NRI family attacked, constable line-attached after protest

Bhopal: A London-based NRI family was allegedly targeted and attacked in Bhind district, triggering anger among members of the Sikh community and forcing police to act against a local constable accused of instigating the assault.
Vikramjit Singh, originally from Ashoknagar and now settled in the UK, had arrived at his in-laws' house in Fatehpur village near Gohad after two and a half years, along with his wife Rajveer Kaur, son Rohanpreet Singh and daughter Ravneet Kaur.
On Thursday evening, while the family was buying fruits on Station Road in Gohad, they got into an altercation with constable Kuldeep Kushwaha, who was in plain clothes.
According to the family, the constable used abusive language, made a video of their car, and grew angry when asked for his identity.
"When I refused to let him make a video of my car and family, he called others and asked them to come with weapons," Singh told police officers.
The family left in their car but was allegedly intercepted near a dhaba between Station Road and Fatehpur village. A group of men armed with sticks attacked the vehicle, shattering its side glass and windows. Rohanpreet suffered facial injuries while Ravneet's hand was hurt in the assault.

The incident was captured on video, which surfaced on Friday.
Singh later complained to the Gohad police, but said he was pressured to hush up the case. When he went to the station, the SHO allegedly said he could have run over his constable. Singh then said his car was fitted with cameras and everything was recorded.
The family has also complained to the Indian Embassy in London. After protests by the Sikh community, who accused Kushwaha of plotting the attack, Bhind SP Asit Yadav removed the constable from duty and line-attached him.
"Attackers are being identified and action will be taken," said officials.
Local MLA Keshav Desai also reached the spot and supported the Sikh community, pointing out that there were earlier complaints against the constable. Dozens of community members gathered at the police station demanding registration of an FIR against the constable.
