Mariska Hargitay reveals biological father's identity during Cannes premiere of ‘My Mom Jayne'

Express Tribune18-05-2025

Mariska Hargitay made an emotional appearance at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday for the premiere of her HBO documentary My Mom Jayne.
The documentary, which marks Hargitay's directorial debut, honours the life of her late mother, Jayne Mansfield. The screening concluded with a four-minute standing ovation, underscoring the film's emotional impact.
In a personal moment, Hargitay revealed that her biological father is Italian singer Nelson Sardelli, not Mickey Hargitay, the man who raised her and was married to Mansfield. This is the first time Hargitay has publicly addressed her parentage.
'Tonight I'm celebrating the power that film has for me to remember somebody I didn't have the good fortune to know or grow up with,' Hargitay said during her introduction to the film.
Jayne Mansfield, a Hollywood star of the 1950s, was known for roles in The Girl Can't Help It and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? Beyond her image as a glamorous screen icon, Mansfield was a talented and intelligent performer who later found success as a nightclub act.
Hargitay was three years old when Mansfield died in a tragic car crash. The accident also involved Hargitay and her brothers, who survived. These early life experiences have shaped Hargitay's long-standing advocacy work.
As Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU, she has portrayed a committed advocate for survivors for more than 550 episodes.
My Mom Jayne offers a fresh view of Mansfield's life and legacy through Hargitay's perspective as both daughter and director. The film adds depth to the public understanding of Mansfield's life, celebrating her not just as a celebrity but as a woman and mother.

Khaby Lame ICE arrest rumor spreads after activist post sparks online speculation

Rumors have gone viral claiming that TikTok megastar Khabane 'Khaby' Lame was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Las Vegas. The speculation originated from conservative activist Bo Loudon, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Lame had been detained for allegedly overstaying a visa and evading taxes. Loudon claimed he tipped off ICE himself and included what he said was a screenshot from the ICE detainee locator showing Lame at the Henderson Detention Center. 🔥🚨BREAKING: Legendary liberal TikTok influencer Khaby Lame just got arrested and is now in ICE custody after Bo London reported the influencer. Bo London: 'I discovered he was an illegal who overstayed an invalid VISA, evaded taxes, and I personally took action to have him… — Dom Lucre | Breaker of Narratives (@dom_lucre) June 6, 2025 However, as of June 7, there has been no official confirmation from ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, or Lame's representatives. Independent searches using the A-number provided by Loudon yielded no results, and Lame's name does not appear in the ICE detainee system. Khaby Lame, a Senegalese-born Italian national, rose to international fame during the COVID-19 pandemic for his silent TikTok videos that humorously critique overly complex life hacks. With over 162 million followers, he became the platform's most-followed creator by 2025. His fame has expanded beyond social media: he's been featured on Forbes' 30 Under 30, Fortune's 40 Under 40, walked the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, and was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador earlier this year. While online speculation continues, legal experts caution against drawing conclusions from unverified information. 'Even if someone appears in a detainee system, that doesn't confirm legal wrongdoing,' said immigration attorney Julia Price. She added that Lame's dual Italian-Senegalese citizenship could further complicate the legal picture. The episode underscores concerns about immigration misinformation and politically charged online narratives. Despite the lack of evidence, many fans are expressing shock and support across social media. 'I just want the truth,' said Zoe, a 17-year-old TikTok user from Chicago.

Elizabeth Weber reemerges after decades for Billy Joel's HBO documentary

Elizabeth Weber, Billy Joel's first wife and longtime former manager, made headlines this week by publicly speaking for the first time in 43 years. The 82-year-old appeared at the premiere of And So It Goes, HBO's new two-part documentary on the music icon, during the 2025 Tribeca Festival in New York. Weber, often referred to as Joel's muse and the inspiration behind several of his classic songs, attended the event with her son Sean Small. Reflecting on her eight-year marriage to Joel, she told People, 'It was great then, it's great whenever I think about it, and it's great now.' The documentary dives deep into Billy Joel's early struggles, creative rise, and personal pain — much of which centered around Elizabeth. The two had a controversial beginning, with Elizabeth initially married to Joel's bandmate Jon Small. Despite the rocky start, she and Joel married in 1973, with Weber becoming a strategic force behind his success. She reportedly pushed him to release 'Just the Way You Are' — a decision that won him two Grammys. Weber also inspired iconic songs such as 'She's Always a Woman' and 'The Stranger.' However, their marriage ended in the early 1980s amid Joel's growing substance issues and a near-fatal motorcycle accident. Now, re-entering public life, Weber says she joined the project after encouragement from her granddaughters and co-director Susan Lacy. Notably absent was Joel, 75, who is recovering from normal pressure hydrocephalus. According to Lacy, he is undergoing physical therapy and is expected to recover fully. Weber's return offers rare insight into a pivotal yet misunderstood chapter of Billy Joel's career and personal life.
