Team India is dealing with a spate of injuries to their top cricketer. The latest to join the list is India vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who is reportedly out for six weeks due to a fractured toe. Pant injured his toe on Day 1 of the 4th Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday.
The Indian vice-captain had retired hurt on 37 and is unlikely to play any more part in the fourth Test. According to a report in Indian Express newspaper, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Jharkhand wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan had been called up by the BCCI selectors to join the Indian squad in England ahead of fifth Test next week.
But there is more bad news for BCCI and the Indian team as even Ishan Kishan is reportedly injured. Kishan had turned out for Nottinghamshire in a couple of matches in County Championships this year but he has got injured in an accident. Ishan Kishan injured in a scooty accident
According to a report in TOI, Kishan has got injured in an accident on a scooty. 'Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty,' a source close to Ishan Kishan informed TOI.
'The selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,' the source added in the report.
Ishan had an impressive run with Nottinghamshire this season. He notched up scores of 87 and 77 against Yorkshire and Somerset in the two matches and was also impressive behind the stumps.
The SRH wicketkeeper is now back at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover from his injuries. Ishan Kishan scored his maiden IPL century this year
The 27-year-old was signed up by Kavya Maran's Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Ishan justified the faith of SRH, scoring his maiden IPL century in their opening game of the season against Rajasthan Royals.
However, he trailed off for most of the remaining season, apart from scoring 94 not out against IPL 2025 champions RCB towards the end of the season. Kishan ended up with 354 runs from 14 matches at a strike-rate of over 152. Rishabh Pant available to 'bat as per team requirements'
Meanwhile, the BCCI have announced that injured Rishabh Pant will be available to bat for Team India in the fourth Test at Manchester as per the 'requirements' of the team.
'Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements,' a BCCI statement read.

Gavaskar walks to Shubman Gill after narrow record miss, floors Indian captain with a priceless gift; makes ‘Gabba' vow

India's Test captain Shubman Gill may have narrowly missed out on breaking one of the most iconic batting records in Indian cricket, but he earned something just as memorable: an emotional nod from the man who set the benchmark more than five decades ago. On a tense third day at the Oval, as India chased a series-levelling win against England, the post-match scenes provided a heartwarming moment when Sunil Gavaskar gifted Gill a signed cap and shirt as a gesture of respect towards the youngster's performance in the series. Sunil Gavaskar shared a heartwarming moment with Indian captain Shubman Gill(X) Gill ended the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with 754 runs in 10 innings, falling just 21 runs short of surpassing Gavaskar's India record for most runs in a Test series. However, Gill's incredible batting contribution played a key role in keeping the series alive, and Gavaskar, who has been part of the broadcast team, walked up to the Indian captain after play and presented him with personal memorabilia, a rare gesture from one of Indian cricket's most revered figures. 'This is a little cap, which I give to very few people with my signature,' Gavaskar told Gill as he handed it over. The 74-year-old then revealed he would be wearing his 'lucky jacket' the next day, the same one he wore during India's famous win at the Gabba in 2021, when Gill scored a defining 91 in the fourth-innings chase of 328. Watch: Gill came into the fifth Test with a real shot at toppling Gavaskar's 774-run mark but endured a rare off-game, scoring 21 and 11. His second-innings dismissal, off the first ball after lunch, ended the chase for the record. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old did manage to surpass Gavaskar in another corner of the record books. His 754-run tally now stands as the most by an Indian Test captain in a single series, surpassing Gavaskar's 732 runs from the 1978/79 series against West Indies, a mark that had stood for 46 years. India have set England a daunting target of 374 in the final Test, and while time may not be their enemy, facing a relentless Indian pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj promises to be the real challenge. England lost their first wicket of the innings on the last ball of the day, with Siraj castling Zak Crawley; the side finished Day 3 at 50/1.
