Grab PH launches fully electric taxi fleet
Grab Philippines has unveiled the country's first fully electric, on-demand taxi fleet recognized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In a news release, Grab Philippines said GrabTaxi Electric was launched in partnership with local operator EV Taxi Corp. and would begin operations in key Metro Manila hubs, including Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, and Pasay.
This rollout marks a significant regulatory and operational milestone for the Philippines, where traditional combustion engine vehicles still dominate the mobility landscape, the ride-hailing company said.
Currently in beta, GrabTaxi Electric allows passengers to seamlessly book electric taxis within the Transport tab of the Grab app, alongside traditional Grab mobility services.
Feedback from passengers and drivers during this phase will shape the future design, expansion, and service model of the offering.
The launch of the full EV fleet builds upon Grab's June 2024 pilot study with BYD Philippines, which demonstrated the operational and financial viability of electric vehicles for both fleet operators and driver-partners, it said.
'This is not just about offering another ride option,' said Grab Philippines country head Ronald Roda.
'It's about fundamentally changing the DNA of urban transport in the Philippines—one that aligns with our sustainability commitments, empowers Filipino commuters, and creates meaningful green livelihoods. Sustainability cannot be a distant ideal; it must be something you can book, ride, and feel today.''
GrabTaxi Electric is part of Grab's broader eco-mobility strategy, which includes expanding EV adoption across its GrabCar fleet in regional cities such as Davao and Cagayan De Oro within the year, according to the ride-hailing company.

PAOCC launches one-stop shop vs. abusive lending apps
The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) on Monday launched a one-stop shop to handle complaints of victims of abusive online lending applications. During the launch of the one-stop shop, PAOCC said it received a hundred sworn statements of complainants. One victim, Julie, said the lending app used AI-generated images to expose her on social media, which affected her mental health. 'I used to be jolly, now I no longer go out of the house. To end this, I even thought of suicide,' she said in Filipino. Online lending apps should be registered with the SEC, but the agency acknowledged some manage to advertise their lending offers without going through the agency. Two Pinoy officer cadets finish training at Indian Military Academy
Two Filipino officer cadets have successfully completed their pre-commissioning training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun in the State of Uttarakhand, the defense attaché of the Philippines in India said. According to Defense Attaché Colonel Rolando Gomez, the two officer cadets are the second generation Philippine Army officers trained by the prestigious military academy in India. He said it was in 1974 when the first two officer cadets completed the same training. However, the program did not push through. Gomez said IMA Commandant Lieutenant General Nagendra Singh had conducted the ceremonial donning of rank insignia to 2nd Lieutenants Anthony Ehapon and Len John Kent Valbarez. ''This ceremony symbolizes the advancement and readiness of the two officers to take on a new leadership role in their chosen service,'' Gomez said in a press release. Gomez stressed that the graduation of the two officers was not just a personal achievement but a tangible step towards a more robust, skilled, and internationally connected Philippine Army that is supported by a deepening strategic partnership with India. A Reuters report earlier said India is the world's biggest arms importer as it also steps up domestic production and boosts defense exports to counter China's military strength and influence in its neighborhood after their troops clashed on the Himalayan border in 2020.
