Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dahod, excitement is building around the inauguration of the newly completed Dahod Locomotive Manufacturing Workshop , a major infrastructure milestone for Indian Railways.Speaking ahead of the Prime Minister's arrival, Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway , highlighted the swift progress made at the facility."You can see right now behind me is the first locomotive that has been manufactured at this workshop. The foundation stone of Dahod locomotive manufacturing workshop was laid just a couple of years back in 2022 to be precise, and within 3 years, as we can see this production centre is completely ready to be inaugurated shortly," CPRO said.According to Abhishek, the workshop has been designed with a production capacity of 120 locomotives per year, with potential scalability to 150 units annually depending on future demand."As far as the capacity of this workshop is concerned, we plan to produce around 120 locomotives per year, but if there is a need, we can also increase this production capacity to almost 150...the PM will be coming here on Monday and he will dedicate this locomotive workshop that has been completed in a record time. He will dedicate it to our nation, and we are really keenly looking forward to this important event," he added further.PM Modi will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat on May 26 and 27, where he will unveil a series of development projects in Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar, including major initiatives by the Railways and various state government departments valued at over Rs 24,000 crore.PM Modi will inaugurate the Locomotive Manufacturing Shop at the Rolling Stock Workshop in Dahod, constructed by the Railway Ministry at a cost of Rs 21,405 crore. PM Modi will also dedicate the first 9000 HP locomotive engine, developed under the 'Make in India' initiative, to the nation, an official release said.Alongside this, he will inaugurate railway projects worth Rs 2,287 crore, including the doubling of the Anand-Godhra, Mehsana-Palanpur, and Rajkot-Hadmatiya railway lines, the 107 km electrification of the Sabarmati-Botad railway line, and the gauge conversion of the Kalol-Kadi-Katosan railway line, bringing the total value of railway-related works to Rs 23,692 crore.The railway production unit in Dahod will provide employment to 10,000 people and boost the local economy. The locomotive engine manufactured here will have the capacity to haul 4,600 tonnes of cargo, with a target to produce approximately 1,200 engines over the next 10 years.

New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is visiting New Delhi today, to further advance the India-UK relationship during talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, besides other government officials. His visit comes after the two nations agreed on the Free Trade Agreement, which is set to increase trade by more than pounds 25 billion every year. Foreign Secretary Lammy will meet with Prime Minister Modi on his second visit to India to discuss ongoing economic and migration partnership, a statement from the British HC said. The Foreign Secretary will also welcome progress in the migration partnership, including ongoing work on safeguarding citizens and securing borders in both countries. Addressing migration remains a top priority for the government - the Foreign Secretary is focused on working internationally with global partners to secure the UK's borders at home. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: 'Signing a free trade agreement is just the start of our ambitions - we're building a modern partnership with India for a new global era. We want to go even further to foster an even closer relationship and cooperate when it comes to delivering growth, fostering innovative technology, tackling the climate crisis and delivering our migration priorities, and providing greater security for our people.' The Foreign Secretary will also meet with leading figures in Indian business to discuss how we can unlock even greater investment by Indian business in the UK. Our investment relationship supports over 600,000 jobs across both countries, with over 950 Indian-owned companies in the UK and over 650 UK companies in India. In 2023-24, India was the UK's second largest source of investments in terms of number of projects for the fifth consecutive year. Talks will also take stock of progress, following a commitment by the UK and Indian Prime Ministers to take forward an ambitious UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The trade deal is a key example of the progress being made since the last meeting between the Foreign Secretary and his Indian counterpart. It follows the signing of the UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation Agreement in May and pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins boosting the British and the Indian economy at the Economic and Financial Dialogue in April. The Foreign Secretary is also expected to address the recent escalation in tensions following the Pahalgam terrorist attack and how the welcomed sustained period of peace can be best supported in the interests of stability in the region. On May 2, the UK and India signed a new UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation to boost collaboration across the arts and culture, creative industries, tourism and sport sectors. The agreement will open the door for increased UK creative exports to India and enable more partnerships between UK and Indian museums and cultural institutions, helping to grow UK soft power. At the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) in April, Chancellor Rachel Reeves welcomed pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins set to boost the British and the Indian economy and deliver economic growth and security for working people. ‘Shows apathy': Allahabad HC raps UP government for delay in disbursing Kumbh stampede compensation
The Allahabad High Court on Friday said that the delay in disbursing compensation to the families of those who died during a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela pilgrimage site in Prayagraj showed the Uttar Pradesh government's 'apathy to the plight of the citizens', Live Law reported. A bench of Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain also directed the state government to furnish details of the deaths and medical handling of those who died or were injured between January 28 and the end of the pilgrimage. The Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state was also told to submit details of the number of compensation claims it had received and settled, and those that are pending. The stampede had broken out at the Maha Kumbh on January 29 as a large number of pilgrims arrived to take a holy bath on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a spiritually significant day in the Hindu calendar. The state government has said that at least 30 persons were killed and 60 others were injured, although several media reports have suggested that the actual toll could be significantly higher. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath had announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for those who died in the stampede. The court was hearing a plea filed by the husband of one of the persons who died. It expressed concern that the woman's body had been handed over to her family without a postmortem being conducted. The judges took note of the serious injuries reported on the woman, including a crushed rib cage, and questioned the lack of official documentation or communication with the family regarding the cause and circumstances of the death, Live Law reported. The bench directed that medical institutions and authorities in Prayagraj be made parties to the petitions and directed them to file affidavits disclosing details of all patients and dead bodies that may have been brought to the facilities and those dispatched by them between the incident and the end of the Mela. The bench was alarmed that the woman's body was handed over to the family in February but compensation was yet to be provided, according to Live Law.

We did not plan it, but because of PM Modi, it became possible. Otherwise, we would have gone by car and celebrated the birthday in Kashmir." She added that the train is flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains on Friday. from Katra Railway Station, connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir via rail. This marks a major milestone in strengthening railway infrastructure in Jammu and his visit, Modi also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River.
