Jay-Z performs with Beyoncé in Paris, Omits Kanye West reference during surprise duet

Express Tribune23-06-2025
Jay-Z made a surprise appearance during Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Paris on June 22, performing with her live for the first time in six years. The pair delighted fans with several collaborations, including 'Crazy in Love' and 'Drunk in Love,' as well as a remix incorporating 'Partition.'
During one performance, Jay-Z made a notable change to a well-known lyric that originally referenced Kanye West. In fan footage shared online, the lyric was modified to include Beyoncé's name instead. The switch has reignited discussion about the strained relationship between Jay-Z and West.
Tension between the two artists has been ongoing for years. In 2021, their collaboration on 'Jail' drew criticism from West, who claimed that Jay-Z's line about his red MAGA hat contributed to their fallout. West later deleted the posts but expressed regret that Jay-Z's comment had deeply affected him.
Adding to the discord, West made controversial statements earlier this year involving Jay-Z and Beyoncé's children. Although he later apologised on social media, he accused the couple of not supporting him during his personal and legal struggles.
Jay-Z's lyrical change during the Paris concert is being interpreted by many fans as a quiet signal of continuing distance between the former collaborators. While the duo remains publicly professional, their complex history continues to spark debate among music audiences.

Pokémon Legends Z-A introduces four-player Z-A Battle Club with ranked Link Battles

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will introduce a new multiplayer feature called the Z-A Battle Club, allowing up to four Trainers to compete in fast-paced battles when the game launches on October 16 2025. Available in both the standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 editions, the mode offers players a new way to test their skills online or locally. In the Z-A Battle Club, Trainers face off in three-minute Link Battles, aiming to defeat as many Pokémon as possible within the time limit. Each defeated Pokémon earns a point, and these points contribute to rankings. All participating Pokémon can make use of a wide variety of moves, and Trainers will also be able to Mega Evolve their Pokémon using Mega Power orbs that appear during battles. Matches begin with Trainers positioned across the stage, sending Pokémon into the fray. If a Pokémon faints, its Trainer returns to their starting point, where their team is fully restored before rejoining the battle. Items that temporarily boost stats can also be collected throughout the match. The battle system combines real-time movement with strategic use of attacks. Moves vary in their effects, with some covering a fixed radius to strike multiple targets and others travelling in straight lines to reach distant opponents. Trainers are encouraged to adapt their strategy to maximise their advantage. Players can compete in Ranked Battles, starting from Rank Z and climbing to Rank A by earning points through victories and performance. Private Battles are also available, allowing friends to play together using Link Codes and customised rules. The Z-A Battle Club is featured in the latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, giving fans a first look at the competitive four-player format ahead of the game's release in October.

'The Weeknd' breaks Beyonce's record with 'After Hours Til Dawn' tour

The Weeknd has officially made touring history. His After Hours Til Dawn tour, which began in 2022, has now grossed $635.5 million and sold just over 5 million tickets, making it the most successful R&B tour of all time. The milestone was confirmed by Billboard, which reported that the achievement puts him ahead of Beyonce's Renaissance World Tour, which held the previous record with $579.8 million in 2023. The tour, which has spanned several years and continents, passed the $600 million mark following two sold-out shows in Philadelphia at the end of July. That accomplishment makes it only the ninth tour in history to reach such numbers, and it is the only one led by an R&B artist. The Weeknd is also now the only Black artist to sell more than 5 million tickets during a single tour. While Beyonce's place in touring history remains secure with her recent Cowboy Carter Tour still holding the record as the biggest country tour ever, The Weeknd's feat marks a historic moment for R&B. His run has grown into a celebration of three albums, including After Hours, Dawn FM and his latest release Hurry Up Tomorrow. Fans across the globe have experienced a show that blends theatrical visuals with The Weeknd's signature sound, bringing together anthems such as Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears and newer tracks from his evolving catalogue. Social media has been flooded with clips and reactions from fans praising the scale of the production and the emotional resonance of the performances. By the time the tour concludes on September 3 in San Antonio, Texas, it is projected to reach close to $700 million in revenue with more than 5.5 million tickets sold. That final figure will cement The Weeknd's place among the highest-grossing tours in music history, a moment that underscores his transformation from underground star to one of the biggest global acts of his generation.

Kanye West relists Malibu mansion for $34.9m as reports highlight financial struggles

Kanye West has relisted his stripped-back Malibu mansion, marking the fourth time in five years that the property has been placed on the market. The $34.9 million listing follows reports that the rapper has been selling multiple properties while facing difficulties securing bookings. In recent months, he also put his burned-down San Fernando Valley church and his Calabasas ranch up for sale. The Malibu property, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, was purchased by West in 2021 for $57.3 million. He controversially removed its interior fittings, leaving behind a hollowed concrete structure. Reports suggested he intended to turn it into a 'bomb shelter' or 'bat cave,' but the project was later abandoned. Belwood Investments acquired the home in 2024 for $21 million, initiating major restoration work that included new plumbing, framing, and roofing. The property entered a contract in March with developer Andrew Mazzella for a reported sum above $30 million. Speaking to Mansion Global, Mazzella described the house as 'a very complicated construction project,' and compared his negotiation style to that of Trump, Musk, and Carl Icahn. Alongside the Malibu listing, West has placed his Calabasas ranch on the market for around $2 million and his church property for $1.5 million. The ranch, once home to the Donda Academy, requires significant restoration. The church lot, destroyed by fire in 2024, has been marketed for its redevelopment potential. Separately, a new documentary titled In Whose Name, filmed over six years by Nico Ballesteros, has drawn attention to West's health. A trailer shows the rapper stating, 'I'm off my meds for five months now,' while his ex-wife Kim Kardashian expressed concern, saying his personality had changed. In another clip, West declared he would 'rather be dead than be on medication.' The documentary is scheduled for release on September 9.
