China's AntFin is ending its decade-long association with Paytm, selling its remaining stake in the Indian digital payments platform. This and more in today's ETtech Top 5.■ Blackbuck betters bottom line■ Policybazaar faces regulator wrath■ Figma off IPO highChinese financial services major AntFin ended its decade-long tie with Paytm. It has sold its remaining 5.8% stake in One97 Communications, the digital payment firm's parent, for Rs 3,800 crore. The move comes after Japan's SoftBank fully exited in 2024 , closing a chapter that once defined Paytm's rise.AntFin's exit has been gradual:Ant's $500 million bet in 2015 gave Paytm money and muscle, taking a 40% stake at a $3.7 billion valuation. Sharma framed it as India's answer to Alibaba's China story. SoftBank joined in 2017 with $1.4 billion, lifting the valuation to $7 billion. However, the tide turned after 2020, as India tightened scrutiny of Chinese stakes in its local technology companies. Paytm faced parliamentary questions about ownership and its non-banking financial company (NBFC) licence. Even with denials of data sharing, the Chinese link became a political liability.AntFin pumped in about Rs 33,600 crore but exits with muted returns. Its 10% stake sold to Sharma in 2023 was structured as debt to be repaid over time.Paytm shares ended at Rs 1,052 on Tuesday, down 2.3%. The stock has rebounded from Rs 480 to around Rs 1,100 over the past year, yet its $7.6 billion market cap is still half its peak.Venture capital firm Z47 and hedge fund Tiger Global Management sold Ola Electric shares between April and June, according to data from stock exchanges.India's white-collar workforce is feeling the first real shock of the artificial intelligence (AI) era. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the country's largest IT employer, said last week it will cut 12,000 jobs, a sign that routine desk work roles are being quietly hollowed out.Unlike past slowdowns, this wave is structural. Recruitment firms say automation is rapidly moving beyond tech, sweeping through finance, insurance, HR, marketing, and customer service. The numbers are sobering. The World Economic Forum (WEF) projects 92 million jobs will disappear globally between 2025 and 2030, even as 170 million new ones emerge. In India, 38% of current skills are expected to change. This is not an overnight collapse, but a slow fade. Traditional entry-level roles are being quietly erased, the job pyramid is compressing at the base, and the first draft of work that once took days now takes minutes.BPO/KPO jobs, such as transcription, data cleaning, invoice processing, and junior audit roles, are increasingly being replaced by co-pilots and chatbots. Cities heavily dependent on BPO and KPO hubs could see pockets of urban unemployment.'Hiring is slowing unless driven by fresh investment,' said Adecco India's Sanketh Chengappa. The online aggregator has been fined Rs 5 crore for 11 violations that regulators say undermine consumer protection and market transparency.IRDAI inspections revealed that Policybazaar routinely missed the 24-hour window for transferring customer premiums to insurers, as mandated under Section 64 VB of the Insurance Act.The regulator also flagged serious gaps in telemarketing compliance. Out of 4.32 lakh policies sold through call centres, almost one lakh were not linked to an Authorised Verifier, making it difficult to audit sales and validate consumer consent.Investigators also found Policybazaar promoted select ULIPs and health plans as 'Top' or 'Best' without any supporting data or disclosure. IRDAI rules bar such claims unless backed by verified third-party data. The lapses occurred when Policybazaar was operating as an Insurance Web Aggregator before securing its composite broker licence. The regulator said the company's practices risked eroding trust in digital insurance sales.Figma's market debut glow faded fast. The collaborative design platform saw its shares tumble 23% on Monday, erasing $11 billion in value in a single trading day.Analysts pinned the drop on frothy expectations and quick profit-taking. 'The euphoria is deflating,' said Running Point's Michael Schulman.Figma CEO Dylan Field remains firmly in control, retaining 74.1% voting power and a stake worth around $5 billion after the IPO. Venture backers are also cashing in. Europe-based Index Ventures, which invested $86.5 million in Figma over the years, is now sitting on a stake valued at more than $6 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.Adobe's $20 billion acquisition attempt, blocked by regulators last year, now looks like a bargain left on the table. Figma's sharp reversal is a reminder of how quickly sentiment can flip, even for Silicon Valley's most hyped SaaS names.

Reliance unveils four tech-driven growth engines for future expansion
Reliance Industries has built four high-powered growth engines of retail, digital services, media and entertainment, and new energy to propel the conglomerate's next phase of expansion, Chairman Mukesh Ambani said. Parallelly, Reliance is reshaping itself into a new-age deep-tech enterprise, he said in a message to shareholders in the firm's latest annual report. The firm, which traditionally had oil and petrochemicals as the growth drivers, has in the last few years ventured into retail - both online and physical stores - telecom and digital services, built a media empire around news and entertainment channels, and laid the foundation for giga factories for its clean energy foray. "Each of these (four) platforms is technology-first, innovation-led, and positioned to disrupt industries while delivering massive value to Indian consumers and the global market," Ambani said. On its mainstay cash-cow oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business, which houses the world's largest single location oil refinery complex and petrochemical plants, and oil and gas production business, he said these will continue to grow while catering to India's rising energy and materials demand. "We are not just scaling businesses - we are building platforms that empower people, reduce inequality, drive sustainability, and elevate India's position in the global economy. "Whether it's transforming the way Indians shop, consume data, watch content, or power their homes and businesses - Reliance is shaping the future with purpose and conviction," he said. Ambani, the richest man in Asia, said the world is changing at breakneck speed - reshaped by digital disruption, global shifts, and technological breakthroughs. "At Reliance, we see this not as a challenge but as an opportunity. We are reimagining our future and reshaping our businesses to become a new-age deep-tech enterprise," he said, adding that next-generation technologies are being integrated in every business vertical - from energy to entertainment, from retail to digital services. The conglomerate has over 1,000 in-house scientists who are leading cutting-edge research in areas like AI, renewable energy, advanced materials, and digital platforms. "Our manufacturing infrastructure is being future-proofed to support India's aspiration to become a global manufacturing powerhouse," he said. Giving performance highlights of each of the businesses, Ambani said while retail crossed Rs 3.3 lakh crore in turnover and expanded its footprint to 19,340 stores, Jio emerged as the world's largest data network with 488 million users, including 191 million on 5G. In the media space, Reliance built a large and distinctive media institution, in partnership with Disney, across genres, and has delivered record viewership and engagement metrics within the first few months of commencing operations. While O2C demonstrated resilience through disciplined cost management and strong domestic placement, oil and gas delivered record EBITDA, with increased output from KG-D6 and CBM blocks, he said. New energy transitioned from vision to execution - operationalising giga-scale solar and battery energy projects, he said. "At the heart of Reliance's success is a foundation built on values, trust, and talent. Our strong balance sheet, relentless focus on productivity, and unwavering commitment to excellence give us the confidence to embrace bold ambitions," he added.
