STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a series of incidents in downtown State College where police said he lit a PRIDE flag on fire, shouted homophobic slurs, and damaged other decorations.
Markos Bejiga, a resident of State College, was charged with one felony count of Causing or Risking a Catastrophe, a misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct, and three summary counts of Criminal Mischief. The incidents happened Friday morning, June 6, according to State College police.

AG: Thousands of fentanyl packets, African wildcats found at Clearfield County home
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two Clearfield County residents were arrested on drug trafficking charges, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced. Sunday, whose office was working in collaboration with state police and Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers, announced the arrest of 27-year-old Jennifer Dixon and 33-year-old Nicholas Rumsey. According to Sunday, members of the Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics and the state police's SERT team executed a search warrant on a Lawrence Township home June 5. Agents said the following was found in the home: Approximately three pounds of methamphetamine, valued at $19,200 Approximately 159 grams of fentanyl, valued at $63,000 Approximately nine grams of heroin, valued at $3,600 Approximately $7,390 in US currency Packaging/bags In addition, Sunday said two African wildcats were found in cages in the basement of the home that appeared to be unlawfully kept. 'Our agents never know what they're going to find when they prepare for a search at a residence, and this case was no exception,' Sunday said. 'The agents' seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl and heroin ensures those drugs will not harm surrounding communities. The recovery and rescue of these wildcats provides the animals with opportunities to live safer, healthier lives – not caged in the basement of this home. I am grateful to Pennsylvania State Police and all the agencies involved in this operation for this remarkable seizure.' The Pennsylvania State Game Commission responded and confiscated both wildcats. 'A large drug bust like this is the result of hard work and diligent investigative efforts by law enforcement,' District Attorney Sayers said. 'Thanks to the efforts of the Pennsylvania State Police and agents with the Attorney General's Office, approximately 7,950 doses of fentanyl will not make it to the streets of Clearfield County. Additionally, the rescue of these African wildcats serves the dual benefit of protecting these exotic creatures and protecting the people in that neighborhood.' Sunday said their investigation is ongoing, while the Pennsylvania State Game Commission is investigating the wildcat situation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 13-year-olds caught throwing fireworks into crowd at CA Pride event, cops say
Two 13-year-old boys threw 'suspected fireworks' into a crowd at a California city's annual LGBTQ+ Pride event, officials said. Now they're arrested and facing charges. Minutes before the City of Redwood was set to ceremoniously raise a Progress Pride flag in honor of the LGBTQIA+ community at a courthouse downtown, the teens 'shouted derogatory, homophobic profanities' and threw a firework into the crowd, Mayor Elmer Martinez Saballos said in a news release. The attack occurred at 5:55 p.m. June 4 — exactly five minutes before the ceremony was planned to start, Redwood City Police Department said in a news release. The teens took off before law enforcement officers arrived, officials said. Part of the attack was recorded on surveillance video, officials said. Two adults were hurt in the attack and one had minor injuries, officials said. Later on that night, police found and arrested one of the 13-year-old boys suspected in the attack. The next day, investigators found and arrested the other 13-year-old suspected in the attack. They face assault with a deadly weapon and hate crime charges, the department said. 'The act of hate and violence is unacceptable and deeply troubling,' Mayor Saballos said in a statement. 'We are committed to being a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for all.' The statement went on to say the 'distressing incident' was not reflective of leadership's values and that city officials would work with police and residents 'to ensure Courthouse Square and every space in our city is a place of safety, respect and belonging.' Anyone with information is asked to contact the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100. Redwood City is about a 30-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
