Rejman stays cool under pressure to win JGE's Red Hot Open in summer sizzle
Played in sweltering conditions, the event featured an innovative Forward Tees format, offering a new challenge on familiar ground. Despite the adjusted layout, the competition remained intense, and it was Jumeirah Golf Estates member Mattias Rejman who rose to the occasion, carding an impressive 44 Stableford Points for a gross 65, seven-under par.
All players took on the challenge from the Forward Tees, which shortened the course but intensified the competition, as men and women vied fiercely in both the Net and Gross Divisions under differing course ratings.
True to the event's name, the battle was as fierce as the weather.
Praise for the Earth Course
Rejman applauded the superb course conditions, saying: 'The condition of the Earth course was great, despite sub-ideal summer conditions, so we must credit our Agronomy Team here at JGE.
'I thoroughly enjoyed taking advantage of playing from the Forward Tees, which posed new challenges on-course, which was very enjoyable, and something a little different for us Members who play here every week.'
Hot on his heels was fellow JGE member Gurpreet Shatra, who dazzled with three net-eagles to finish just one point behind. The podium was completed by Shagir Mohammed, whose rollercoaster round included three net-eagles and two double-bogeys, finishing with 42 Stableford Points.
Schoombie Strikes Again
In the fiercely contested Gross Division, Mark Schoombie once again showcased his golfing prowess and form, securing victory with a scintillating 44 Stableford Points and an eight-under gross 64. His round featured seven birdies and an eagle as he narrowly defeated Jayson Hilton, who carded a bogey-free 67.
Excitement ran high with on-course contests, sponsored by Suited and Booted, as Callum Smithson, Paul Gingell, and Tom Morgans claimed Nearest the Pin honours on holes 4, 6, and 17, respectively.
Sponsored by Suited and Booted, the event rewarded competitors with fantastic prizes, adding extra spice to an already charged atmosphere. Adam Stastny, Golf Services Manager at Jumeirah Golf Estates, praised the resilience of participants despite the blazing Dubai summer: 'Your passion and determination make this event a standout on our calendar, even when the temperatures soar.'

The day wrapped up with a celebratory buffet dinner in the Ballroom, where players relaxed and shared stories from the day's fiery competition.
The Red Hot Open's unique Forward Tees format was a hit, offering a fresh perspective on the challenging Earth Course. However, it still showed its teeth to naïve competitors, a testament to the difficulty of the venue that hosts the DP World Tour Championship.

Meet the UAE racing driver who is planting trees to turn his sport into a sustainability platform
Over the years, the UAE, a melting pot of cultures, has inspired a myriad people to go out of their way to bring about change. And Lachlan Robinson, a Dubai-based Australian racing driver who was only six months old when his parents decided to leave the UK for the UAE, is the latest in the long list of young changemakers in this country. A hugely talented driver who is driving for Porsche's title-winning W&S team in the ADAC GT4 Germany Championship, Robinson is now a passionate advocate of green initiatives. With his #DrivenToZero project, launched in association with Evertreen, a leading eco-friendly platform which encourages companies to reduce their carbon footprint, Robinson plants one tree for every 75 kilometres that he races. 'I launched DrivenToZero to help offset my footprint from all the travel, all the racing, because motorsport isn't a very sustainable career path. But I'm trying to make it as sustainable as possible,' Robinson told the Khaleej Times. As part of the initiative, Robinson will plant a tree each time he completes a trip from the local airport to the track and as many as six trees for every return flight from the UAE to Germany. 'We've already planted 1,000 trees in Madagascar and Indonesia, and that, I think, roughly equates to about 21,000 kilos of CO₂,' he said. 'So, the plan is to plant 70 more trees this season, on top of the 1000 that have already been planted, just to try and make a difference. I hope that other people can see it and try to contribute as well.' A five-time UAE Karting champion who grew up watching Formula One and Australian V8 Supercars Championships, Robinson wants to carve a niche of his own as a racing driver on the track. Off it, he hopes to become the driving force behind motorsport's sustainability projects. 'I draw a lot of inspiration from the UAE where I began my journey as a racing driver. It's not just the great sporting culture, but the UAE's initiatives for a sustainable world have really inspired me,' said who recently secured his first ADAC GT4 podium finish at Norisring. 'It's a country which has hosted events like the COP28 and launched so many other pioneering green projects. 'All those great initiatives from the UAE have inspired me to use my platform of motorsport responsibly and try to make a difference. Now with every tree we plant, I hope it will encourage more and more people to act responsibly towards the world that we call home.'
