Springwatch viewers fume as show airs gruesome scenes with 'no warning'
Springwatch viewers were left in shock after the BBC Two programme showed gruesome scenes without giving any warning
Springwatch viewers have been left fuming after the show failed to warn them before airing gruesome scenes on the BBC Two show.
The episode saw hosts Chris Packham and Dancing on Ice star Michaela Strachan update fans on a short-eared owl's nest, but things took a turn for the worst when one chick was "pecked to death" by its sibling.
Addressing Springwatch viewers, Michaela said: "It seems like they were all being fed, and just yesterday I was saying that one was doing well. But I'm afraid in that nest things took a turn for the worst."
Michaela admitted the team was "really surprised" upon telling viewers how one chick ate its sibling in "shocking" scenes. However, viewers were left horrified when the show went straight into the clip without any warning.
"As you can see, that little one became week and defenceless, and that stronger sibling took complete advantage and started pecking at the younger one who was still alive."
Apologising that it was hard to watch Michaela continued: "It pecked it to death. That was really surprising to us, because as Chris said they were fed four times."
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one shocked fan wrote: "Really dont think they should have shown the owl being eaten alive #Springwatch."
Another said: "Got to love #Springwatch. Just watched my first 5 minutes of this series and I've already seen one short eared owl chick peck a sibling to death and eat it's cadaver," as a third commented: "Baby owl eating its sibling alive ffs . Give us a 5 minute warning next time."
It comes shortly after the show k icked off its 20th anniversary series. The show broadcasted from a new location, in the picturesque Peak District.
Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan introduced the first episode on May 26 with a nostalgic montage of clips featuring familiar faces, including Kate Humble and Bill Oddie, from the show's debut in 2005.
To celebrate two decades on air, the show introduced a new feature, Springwatch Street, which delves into the secret lives of urban wildlife, showcasing the thriving populations of foxes and swifts in city environments.
Fans were overjoyed with the anniversary series, with many taking to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their delight.
Others were more focused on Chris' Oasis style bucket hat. To go along with the theme, the host peppered his opening segment with Oasis puns, teasing viewers that they were in for a treat: "You'll want to be here now as we're about to bring you the Champagne supernova of wildlife TV, starting tonight."
"@ChrisGPackham clearly on an Oasis kick tonight," penned one follower, as others begged him to break out into song.
"Oasis songs then Chris?" questioned one, as another said: "Some might say that Chris is naming Oasis songs."

Dakota Johnson in 'incredible pain' after split with Coldplay star Chris Martin
The pair were in a relationship for 8 years. Hollywood star Dakota Johnson has been left feeling "incredible pain" following her split from long-term boyfriend and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The Fifty Shades star, 35, who also starred in last year's Madame Web, was reportedly determined to make the relationship work but, after almost eight years together, the pair confirmed they've gone their split. They found their relationship, which began in 2017, stalled, a source said, reports the Mirror. Insiders claim the split has hit Dakota hard. A source told The Sun: "Dakota wanted this relationship to work. She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard. Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn't moving forwards." Coldplay's huge world tour continues and Dakota has been away on shoots for future films including Materialists and Verity recently. It is believed their flourishing careers have drove a wedge between the pair. "Settling down, as in Chris properly taking his foot off the pedal, isn't going to happen. And, ultimately, it was one of the many straws that broke the back of them," the source continued. A sombre Dakota was last snapped in New York City on Wednesday - without her engagement ring - just hours before the split news broke. However, the couple were hit by split rumours in August last year, speculation sources close to them denied. But now that decision has been reached with an insider confirming the " relationship had been over for a long time". Speaking earlier this week, the insider added: "They just haven't been able to figure out to make it official. Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore... Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them." Chris, 48, shares those two children with actress Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he married in December 2003. They divorced in 2016, a split Gwyneth described as "conscious uncoupling". The Grammy Award nominee, 52, has since gone on to marry writer and producer Brad Falchuk, whom Gwyneth met on the set of Glee when she had a recurring guest role in the musical comedy-drama.

Andy Cohen weighs into Trump and Elon Musk spat with wild offer for them to do a Real Housewives reunion show
Andy Cohen is chiming in with a bizarre offer in an effort to bring an end to the new feud between President Donald Trump and X owner Elon Musk. Musk, the 53-year-old Tesla magnate who purchased Twitter for $44 billion and turned it into X, became one of President Trump's top advisors, leading up the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However he left his government post in late May 2025, after his 130-day deadline as a special government employee expired. While it seemed that Musk parted ways with Trump and his government post amicably, things quickly turned ugly when Musk criticized Trump's Big Beautiful Bill. A feud started quickly, after Musk called the bill, 'an abomination,' as Trump threatened to terminated Musk's government contracts, while Musk alleged that Trump has ties to Jeffrey Epstein and even called for his impeachment. Now Andy Cohen has chimed in with a hilarious solution to this new feud: a Real Housewives-style reunion show. 'LET ME HOST THE REUNION!' Cohen tweeted on Thursday afternoon in all caps, along with an American flag emoji. Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic U.S. Representative from Florida, even got in on the fun, designing a seating chart, in true Bravo fashion. Moskowitz kept with the Bravo tradition of having the two pivotal figures from each Housewives season in the first chairs on either side of Cohen, with, naturally, Trump and Musk taking the top seats. Following Trump is his Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Flanking Musk was Peter Navarro, Trump's special counselor for trade and manufacturing, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in the reunion seating chart graphic. The suggestion that Cohen should 'host' a 'reunion' was seemingly started by Pennsylvania U.S. Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, who tweeted it hours before Cohen. 'Petition to have @Andy host the Trump-Musk White House Housewives Reunion. America deserves all the tea. Also kill the bill,' the Pennsylvania U.S. Rep said. Given Trump's roots in reality TV, a reunion might not be as far-fetched as one may think, though still incredibly unlikely. — Jared Moskowitz (@JaredEMoskowitz) June 5, 2025 The suggestion that Cohen should 'host' a 'reunion' was seemingly started by Pennsylvania U.S. Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, who tweeted it hours before Cohen. The feud erupted online earlier on Thursday, when Trump mentioned Musk in a press conference, saying he was, 'very disappointed' in Musk. He then posted on Truth Social, 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.' Musk quickly responded on X, claiming, 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Such ingratitude,' seemingly referring to his campaign contributions totally nearly $300 million. Musk also claimed that Trump, 'is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.'
